I don’t think it would since the air passes through the cooler so it shouldn’t block it

Should have rerouted the air dog return to the factory fuel cooler and run the return fuel from the engine to the ppe cooler….still dual coolers but the hotter fuel will get the more efficient cooler….right now you’re basically running how it would stock because the air dog return normally isn’t there

I can wait to see the results man! I know you live in Michigan, like myself. I work in the fuel industry as service, servicing, repairing, and building fuel stations. Be very careful putting additives in the winter blend fuel. We see it all the time, in witner, with stations adding more additives to try and help their customers, and end up clogging up their dispensers and motors. Just wanted you to be aware. Keep up the great content bro!

The first half of this video was spent talking about all the places that the fuel gets hot going from the engine to the injector pump (trans, engine valley, stock fuel filter etc. Cooling the fuel in the tank doesn't stop the fuel from accumulating heat on the way to the engine next time. The point is to have the fuel as cool as possible going into the injector pump. I have a trans cooler for the fuel on my LBZ that i put on a few weeks ago due to excessive fuel temp towing this last summer. I routed mine before the cp3. My fuel goes from the tank to the airdog, then the stock fuel filter, then the fuel cooler, then the injector pump. I have only driven a few miles, but I did notice the MPG seemed to be higher on the way home from the gas station, and power seemed to be up as well. Fuel temp readings at the fuel rail were about 20-30 degrees higher than the temp outside!!!
I plan to update this with better information after towing with the new system. I was only hoping for better cooling for CP3 and injectors. If i can get more power and MPGs that is just an unexpected bonus.

    • @tompiper3
      @tompiper3 9 місяців тому +1

Your setup is removing heat closer to the injection pump but the question is whether or not you're removing more heat. I don't see any reason your fuel at the pump is any cooler than the setup with the cooler on the return side. Probably some law of thermodynamics going on here that says one works or both work or something. Maybe fuel can only be cooled to a certain point and it's better to cool the hotter fuel after the pump then cooling cooler fuel before the pump

First HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and the TRUCKMASTER family.
This is agreat little project experiment. It certainly makes sense that it will make a difference. Wonder how / if a person could route a forced air duct to the stock cooler as well ? 🤔... Back years ago when I was a young hot rodder. We ran the fuel lines (gas). Through a small ice cooler and into the carburetor. Cold fuel and cold air atomized more efficiently. Resulting in better horse power and cleaner burning efficiency. Which if you think about top fuel drag cars running alcohol which is far cooler than gasoline and far more efficient. Now I might be wrong. However if memory serves me right. Bully Dog use to have a system that misted water and it was kind of the same idea to cool the fuel and provide a better atomization mix of fuel and air. Which also prevented knocking. But that was many years ago. Will be interesting to see how this turns out. That large cooler should make a real difference. Be interesting in winter temperatures and summer temperatures running down the highway. If a guy got really mechanically geek about. You could add a small electric fan and switch for use in stop and go city traffic during warm weather. The difference with diesel being compression fired. Vice spark fired like gas. Means you can work with the return side and not worry about the delivery side. Gotta love this stuff... good luck and have fun. Looking forward to seeing the results. You and PPE and RDS might be onto something here... 🤔 🤓👍

My problem is with the cold winters in Wyoming trying to keep my fuel filter from jelling up I need heat not cold it put a fuel heater on my pump but when it's 20 below it blows the pump fuss before the heater can warm up the fuel filters I could put a switch to turn off the pump and let the heater warm things up but by the tie it heats the filters up the batteries will be dead I belive running a larger micron filter in the winter would be a better idea ,I have the oil pan heater now I put it on the filters for an hour before I start the truck it seems to work get the fuel flowing through the filters I've tryed the fuel additives they don't work and our fuel has winter time additives already I've built an isolated blanket to go around my filtersthey say that will help we will see maybe if you lived down south that would work but Wyoming it's snow and cold 9 months out of the year once I get the fuel flowing the pump heater should keep it warm hope hope hope

If you have an Airdog II 4G, I don’t think it will work. The return hose on my truck barely returns any fuel at all. The newer lift pumps just recirculate the unused fuel in the pump itself instead of returning it to the tank. The only reason it still has a return line at all is for air and foam to escape.

I’m not sure what normal fuel temperatures are on a LB7. I didn’t know my CTS3 gave me the option to see my fuel temperature. I added a large cooler behind the grill. My fuel filter has a heat shield, and I raised it 1.5” up off the exhaust manifold. My fuel line runs from the filter to the cooler, and from the cooler to the CP3. I know before touching the fuel filter it was way too hot !!!
After all this my temp was 120* yesterday and it was 40* outside.
I guess time will tell and I’ll see when it gets hot out.

When I swapped out my original fuel filter mount for an aftermarket one. I made a heat shield out of an old road sign aluminum. I made it wider, and longer than the fuel filter. I gave it an approximate 45* bend at the bottom. I also raised the filter head up about 1” bolted the heat shield to engine mount. Bolted the fuel filter head to the head shield above that. It has to help some.

That trans cooler can handle a lot of pressure. Why don’t you hook it up to the engine side of the air dog. This will cool it before it hits the cp3 and injectors. The air dog should have no problem feeding the engine what it needs through the cooler. This being an experiment I think you should at least try it. I have a 03 suburban with an lbz and an RDS 64mm. I need some mpg help.

    • @Joseph96752

Unfortunately that would add another filter after the trans cooler but technically speaking the LML trans rarely runs higher than 120 degrees farenheit
Even with the cp3 having to push all that fuel through high pressure fuel lines in the trans cooler there unfortunately is another point of failure.
I get 19 average my LML and snd very satisfied with it

I maybe wrong, but why the improvement in the return side, if you have a small steady stream of fuel going back into the tank, in theory it should absorb the tempurature of the tank fuel. It would seem more prudent to cool the Cp3 fuel supply side prior to going into the injectors. Maybe I am wrong about this, but the atomization process occurs at the injectors, not at the tank. I don't understand how a small stream of hot return fuel will effect about 30 gallons of ambient fuel.
