From Season 2, Episode 13 "ABQ"
Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

After experiencing a traumatic event. You probably shouldn't get back to a stressful work environment such as air traffic control.
Makes you wonder if he did this so he could get fired. Then again he did try to kill himself so he probably was in an irrational state of mind when this happened
@@willcc19-18 he tried to kill himself after the crash. the guilt, the social scorn and his daughters death probably accumulated into insane levels of the stress. can't really blame him tbh
@@michaeld7945 tbh the dude was off his rocker if you think about how he acted when he saw Jane hanging with Jesse. Even though he thought Jane didn’t live up to his expectations he still cared about her to the point where seeing her relapse was hard for him
@Willcc19 - idk dude, I think most people would act the way he did when he caught Jane and jesse. Hell, most people would end up doing a hank on jesse. Given the circumstances, he was downright courteous.
IRL he WOULDN'T be allowed to go back to work so close to the death of Jane. There's a helluva lot of laws and regulations involving the health, physical or mental, of their employees and he'd be on leave until he could prove he's fit for work.

The end of this season with Jane’s death and her Father having a mental breakdown was so well executed and realizing Walt had met Mr Margolis (can’t remember his real name) right before Jane died and he let her die that very night. Walt really left a trail of destruction behind
Yep. The writers even stated the plane crash(es) was the consequences of his actions. The culmination of his choices up to this point.
Did Walther know Jane's father was a flight controller and that's how he indirectly caused the crash?
@@Sarnarath Are you serious ? You gotta be joking right , but just in case people THIS STUPID exist , i will break it down to you .
This is not stranger things or some shit , this show is based on reality . Walter is a terrible person not because he literally came over to Jane's dad's house and told him - "AYO BRO I KILLED YOUR DAUGHTER , BYE BYE" . Walter is a bad person because he valued his drug business more than a human life , which resulted in Jane's father having a breakdown at work and killing hundreds of people . Thus Walter indirectly caused death's of all those people . He is evil not because he knew that he killed all those people are sickly enjoyed it , he is evil because he just didn't care about his actions leading to someone else's life being ruined or ended . If you think people are evil only when they admit it , then by taht logic Hitler is not evil since he thought he was doing the right thing by killing the Jewish .
Bruh is it really that hard to understand ? Snap back to reality before watching such great shows , cause real life villain's are not Thanos or Joker who know they are villains and like that . Real life villain's are heroes of their own stories , but they just value their priorities much more than the others , and in Walt's case it cost hundreds of people their lifes . If you watched this show with basically thinking - "Well Walt is the main character so i guess its all good" then you really should try and have your own brains do the thinking for you instead of trusting what others tell you . Because the whole point of Walt's transformation is that the viewer doesn't see it till the end . And if you have a mindset of a nine-year old who thinks villains are solely the antagonists and never the protagonists , then this show if unfortunately not for you . Go watch Avengers or Super-power rangers or some shit idk .

Like really
Gotta go back to work sometime... Money doesn't grow on trees.
understaffed possibly?
It was one of the best episode of BB
This was when Walt became Pablo Escoberg.
At first I thought this was a shark jumping moment, but I've grown to see how it does matter. Walter created the root cause of this accident but he is in fact the only person who knows. This is actually how he's able to defeat Gus. Walt sees this pink teddy bear and realizes later from his strong memories of it falling, and the men taking it away, that he must have killed a child/caused the child's death and many others. Because he wanted money from cooking meth. So, from Gus's point of view, Walt is just an edgier Gale. He has drive to get into the business but has no idea how to be a criminal. He can't kill. Especially just anyone. And especially not children. In fact, everyone, including Mike thought this. And thought he could just kill Walter like anyone when marching him down into the lab to his death. Wrong. Walter is beyond that level, his kill count and list of sins is on Gus Fring's and Mike's level already, and may even surpass them. He can run over gangsters, order a relatively innocent man like Gale to be murdered to save his and Jesse's life. And he can poison a child if therein lies the key to winning a drug war.
Walt can do all these things because of the plane. I'm not even sure if the plane was a detail Hank ever discovered.
Quite a stretch to claim Walt killed all those people. Was irresponsible to assume a position of importance under mental distress as traffic control. Furthermore, Jane could have died further down the line, regardless of Walt's intervention. I get it that Walt unintentionally pushed her while she was choking, but even with her methods, drug addicts last 15-20 years under their routines, not irregular to hear about people overdosing, happens to even casual users who mix the wrong stuff on a fateful night. Both of them, proving they couldn't stop doing drugs even at their pinnacle of hope to pursue a more fulfilling life, would have easily fallen to drug use and wasted away their lives. That is usually what happens when people win the lottery and have no purpose or passion.
What if jane was molested?

Scene is based off a real-life event in the 1980's, a smaller plane rammed into a commercial airliner and rained down fire on a suburb, destroying a school and multiple houses. The Airtraffic Controller's was blamed and the media destroyed his life. His name was Walter White.
Years later the investigation revealed that Walter White wasn't responsible and placed the blame on the government for not enforcing safety equipment regulations and the pilot of the smaller plane for flying recklessly. (might have been a mass murder/suicide)
holy crap his name really is walter white

Well, midair collisions shouldn't be possible in real life when it comes to two airliners. Especially with TCAS equipment.
The splashing was a bit over the top. I've tossed rocks into rivers at terminal velocity that didn't splash like that.

1:04 That beep sound is the sound of death
The only thing accurate about this scene is the frequency he ships the aircraft to. The data blocks are all wrong and backwards, and they don’t even appear to be traffic with each other on the scope. WAF515 is at FL240 and JM021 is out of 164 descending to 100…

sure air traffic controller but did the pilots really not see each other?
I don't think flights have side mirrors
They have surveilance systems like tcas...im real life, this would easily be avoided...pilots are highly trained for this lol
Planes move too fast in a straight line and they’re too big and clunky to move out of the way fast enough
@@leonjensenn8253 They don't have side mirrors, though
@@leonjensenn8253 TCAS might only marginally help reduce a mid-air collision, but due to the complexity of its task it's often not accurate and so there's no certainty that it will prevent it.
Wow. What a great job. NOT!
Q is back!
how tf does the fate of 2 planes depend on 1 person in that whole control room?
It doesn’t entirely. Look into the TCAS system implemented into modern aircraft
Plus one of the parts of a pilot's job is to disregard ATC if they believe they are receiving bad instructions.
Save that question for the inevitable lawsuits that will follow.
The planes would have given resolution advisories at some point basically predicting a collision and telling the pilots how to avoid it
Funny questionm I'm an air traffic controller irl. The fate of the whole airspace and all the planes in it depend on 1 person in the control room.
goddamn, the Q Continuum is VERY harsh when they mete out punishment!
now did donald do it by accident or on purpose out of spite
Accident.
You can tell he's freaking out when the planes are about to crash.
Q is really not with it anymore....
Ole Donny finally snapped
Here the Butterfly Effect comes full circle, if only Donald had acted on his first instinct of calling the cops on Jesse and being the protective father he was driven to be
So they made him say "Jane"???
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I gotta ask. What causes the planes to crash into each other? Don’t they see them coming and could just move out the way?
if airplanes can do that there wont be so many in-flight collision throughout aviation history. Probably pilots with light aircraft can do quick maneuver to avoid incoming traffic, but even so, one can only do it in clear enough visibility. Pilots with heavier aircraft with instrument flight rules have no chance to do it, unfortunately.
the angle which they were flying towards each other (diagonally) plus the speed and weight of the planes meant that by the time they would see each other it would be far too late
Dave Ramsey when he had hair but no ambitions
As somebody who’s a student pilot, this scene is truly horrifying knowing all about the things that the controller was doing wrong. Thankfully with all the safety check lists required by the faa, an event like this is very very unlikely to happen. Personally if I ended up like janes dad I would quit aviation all together.
Why don't these aircraft have TCAS ??
Guys..... my brain just made a connection. THIS GUY IS Q FROM STAR TREK!!!!!
Should we add this to walter white's kill count because this is honestly a product of his actions
I hate children's stuffed animals falling from the sky into my yard..
Is an air traffic controller job this stressful irl? Having to constantly know all these numbers, names, and all? I would have totally freaked out lol.
No, it's more like goalkeeping at soccer. You get high intensity peaks all at once and then it simmers down. The hardest part of it IMO is shifting gears when it starts climbing up and then shifting gears down again to relax.
I might be a lil ignorant when it comes to this because I have no idea how it really works but I never understood why the planes would crash, like wouldn’t the pilots see they’re about to fucking run into each other and make a quick maneuver to avoid that
they were almost parallel to eachother, watch the aircraft control screen. They weren't head on. It's not like the pilots have a full view behind them.
Me when 5 stacking in ow
Is that even possible? I mean: If the air traffic controller does such a mistake, the pilots still could see each others planes flying towards each other, or not?
Bro what? Of course it's possible (but very uncommon) btw if it wasn't possible it wouldn't be in the series.
This is based off a real event in the 1980's, were a small plane collided into a Air bus. In the 1980's Ronald Reagan fired all the Airtraffic controllers and replaced them. So naturally the Media put 100% of the blame on the ATC on duty. His name was, Walter White.
Years later the investigation revealed the fault laid with the FAA not regulating safety equipment on aircraft and the pilot of the smaller aircraft. Who might have done it on purpose.
The airplanes themselves have collision warning systems, but it's unclear how well they would work in this situation.
@@annehaight9963 The most recent revisions of TCAS II (which are in use in any aircraft you'd fly in as a passenger) are highly accurate. They've been under development since the '80s. If I were to send two jets into each other, there's essentially a 100% chance they'd receive an automatic resolution advisory within the cockpit and resolve the conflict on their own (would never condone this, the controller is always responsible for maintaining separation, just saying that you've got nothing to worry about when you fly). Enroute controllers also have many tools at their disposal to foresee and resolve a conflict like this before it would result in a loss of separation
@@d47000I'll believe you. This scene from a show about meth is meant to illustrate the butterfly effect of an overdose death. So sure the scene is not very accurate to flight industry, not the point of the show or even the scene.
Whose?
Not realistic. Each commercial aircraft cockpit is equipped with a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), which warns pilots and instructs them on how to avoid such a disaster. Instructions from TCAS take priority over instructions from air-traffic control.
If the TCAS on one of the planes is off, it won't warn the pilots about the risk of collision. It already happened several times before

In a way yeah all his actions lead to Jesse meeting with Jane and then obviously not saving her from OD
@@luisalamilla1386 No, just no. Just because of a butterfly effect, does not mean he's culpable, let alone responsible. The culpability would rest on Q's employer for allowing him to work after a loss of a loved one.
So this was malicious, right? Like to actively trick 2 planes into colliding that's more than just being zoned out.
I really doubt it
I think it was more that he was so distracted that he was sending them into each other as if he was supposed to
No. It's not malicious. It is entirely possible to collide 2 airplanes as many of them will take the same outbound/inbound flight route, especially in a crowded airport. Combine that with overtaking altitude and fatigue controllers and wham, you got a crash
