    Thanks so much for bringing the ethnic food scene into light. Beneath the veil, scratching through the surface layers of the city is a vibrant multicultural network of people at this fine city. And food, of course, is how culture is represented. Sima Sushi, Podo Namu Korean, Miss Bao, Pho Chopstix, Thai House, Limestone Kebab and AliBaba Kebab, and now my personal favorite at Jimmy The Greek - their amazing Lamb Chops!

    Nice video, I did a ton of research and moved back to Canada from China in 2019. I chose Kingston. It seems many others did after the word got out during Covid. It is a beautiful city with far more pros than cons. Some say making friends is rough, but there are many groups with similar interests to meet people. I highly recommend it if you want that balanced combination of a small/large city.

    The reason that the ferry didn’t go to Marysville on Wolfe Island is that the dock there is being completely reconstructed to accommodate the brand new eco-friendly electric Wolfe Islander IV ferry. Work on the Wolfe Island dock should be completed in fall 2023.

      Will be a little longer than that End of the year an they are still working on it. Wolfe Island has a winter and a summer dock . Kington it is the same regardless of season. Not sure how this will work when the new ferry is operational. All the ferry terminal reconstruction is due to that the replacement ferry is electric. As for moving to Kingston, may i suggest the west end .

    There are fancier bed and breakfasts here though the one you chose is nice. I would recommend not coming for just one Sunday. There is nightlife and Kingston has the most restaurants per capita of any city in Canada. Check out the university campus, all of the water front paths by bike, there are beaches everywhere on the islands, so much to do. Soon both Amherst and Wolfe Islands will have new electric ferries. You can take thousand island boat tours up and down the thousand islands too. Kingston is a very educated city too. So, I encourage you to come back a few times in the summer. Try the Buskers festival next July. There is a LOT going on at night downtown on weekends but, NOT on a Sunday night. Come during Queens homecoming or during a summer festival.

      I've lived in Kingston for 46yrs, downtown is unsafe. Its been not good for many years now. When I want to take my 70yr old parents out for a daytrip and dinner at a restaurant, I'll drive to: Brockville, Perth or Almonte. Carleton Place and Westport are good too, Prince Edward County has Dunes Beach and Point Petre. I would highly recommend these towns to anybody as superior alternatives to Kingston.

    Martello Alley hides the entrance to a huge and amazing antique store, Antiques Alley.
    Also, the reason the sculpture is called "Time" is that supposedly in another 300 years (well, 250 now) geological movements with bring the points of the two prisms together.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for that additional information, very useful!

    • @martelloalley7955
      @martelloalley7955 Місяць тому

      Martello Alley doesn’t hide the entrance to Antique Alley. Antique Alley is a different alley, located on the same street but just north of Martello Alley. They are not connected at all. Many people confuse the two alleys.
      Also, the Time sculpture pieces will not touch each other in 300 years and it is not located on a fault line. This is an urban legend. The reference to 300 years probably comes from the fact that the Ontario government commissioned the sculpture as a gift to the city of Kingston for 1973, which was the 300th anniversary of the establishment of what is now Kingston.

      @LivinginCanada  10 місяців тому +1

      You have a point! I guess if you want to go to more remote areas, taking the bus makes sense. I think the train is a good option for people who want to go from one major city to the next.

    • @jeffwindrim975
      @jeffwindrim975 10 місяців тому +1

      @@LivinginCanada I’ve done the train across Canada a few times and yes for a long trip like that it’s the best way to go. I did the trip once on the bus Toronto to Vancouver it was long but the bus stopped often and you really did get to see so much more of the country on the bus and stop into towns along the way. I would suggest taking the bus from Toronto to Winnipeg then take the train the rest of the way to Vancouver. Your missing out of a lot of Ontario because it takes 24 hours before leaving the province and the rail line is carved out of rock on both sides of the train there’s nothing to look at for hours and hours and hours.

  • @theadventuresofjimmycrapol8827

    I am from Kingston Ontario. We have "Old Fort Henry", Wolfe Island also has a corn maze every summer. If you like sub-par junior hockey (lol) we have the Frontenacs also. Since you asked why Queen's U was slipping in it's ranking... well, I hate to get "political" in your comments section... so, if anyone reading this gets offended easily, stop reading now. I have something to say about our beautiful city.
    The far-left "intellectuals" have taken over. They went very, very woke - like most Canadian Universities. Same goes for the rest of the City. Kingston traditionally votes very liberal... so we tend to get the liberal city "problems" also, like people going out of their way to tell you to put a mask on while walking outside (that I can deal with) and even worse liberal city problems... the downtown "homeless riff raff" problem.
    My kids are NOT allowed to go downtown since my son was jumped by a homeless man in his 50s for the $10 bill in his hand... my son was 9 years old at the time and was trying to buy some raspberries at the farmer's market. That was 6 years ago. Yeah. No charges BTW because another man helped my son but holding that homeless POS down while the police came... 25 minutes later. My son called me - we live behind Costco in the north end... I was able to drive downtown and beat Kingston Police there... and who responded? Some fat woman cop riding a f**king horse, and she was useless - 1) she couldn't handle the horse and 2) would not get off the horse - she just sat on the horse for 5 minutes (while the citizen held down that smelly man) until her back up arrived. It was ridiculous. Oh, My parents actually refuse to go Downtown now also - they witnessed a homeless women stabbing someone in broad daylight.
    About 3 to 4 of them begging at every corner some days. Some street person was wielding a knife with a 16 inch blade last time I went downtown. Just ridiculous. I WISH I was exaggerating. I Love Kingston, which is why I judge it so harshly when it has started to slip. DO NOT GET STUCK WALKING ALONE AT NIGHT DOWNTOWN ANYWHERE - ESPECIALLY ON THE SIDE STREETS DOWNTOWN.
    Cost of living has also skyrocketed in the past 10 years - it's becoming unlivable for the middle class. In fact, Kingston has a huge "welfare state community" in the Rideau Heights. I used to work in the bank that had the "City accounts", so I used to have to deal with the welfare community every month - trust me - it's bigger and more costly than the average citizen knows. I do NOT recommend moving here. Brockville is 1 hour down the road toward Montreal. Gananoque is only 25 minute slow drive in that direction too. Both are much smaller and much quieter... and safer too.
    Again, sorry Kingston for the negative plug - but I live here and I am sick and tired of it and people should know if they ever consider moving here.

    • @theadventuresofjimmycrapol8827
      @theadventuresofjimmycrapol8827 Рік тому

      OH - also, do don't ever consider opening a business in downtown Kingston. Kingston has a habit of ripping up Princess Street every 3 years or so... to the point where people cannot access business store fronts to get inside for months at a time (in the peak summer moths btw) with ZERO COMPENSATION to the business owners downtown. I knew someone who opened a store downtown... Had to deal with that AND there was another store that sold the same products downtown - problem was that Kingston shows favoritism. The other place had community ties for a few generations and if they had homeless riff raff - the police always came by... but my friend didn't get the same treatment. He had to deal with a homeless person, named Linda Jefferies, who would bother each and every person that walked by or tried to get inside. Police would refuse to come by. Business closed after only 1 year and he never even had a change. $100K of his life savings - down the drain. Oh - and you apparently can't sue the city for some reason.

    Now for an REAL appraisal: I grew up in Kingston and then moved back after 50 years. Roads are now the WORST of any city in Ontario. And I've lived or been in almost all of them. Streets/roads haven't been fixed since 1930's or 40's. And there are no plans to do so. 200 ambulances and firetrucks go by my place EVERY DAY. More than in Gaza after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack!!! How is that possible? Druggies laying all over the sidewalks, stealing, urinating, yelling or passed out. Ever since they started giving out free narcotics, it's become a druggie Mecca. Politicians here are completely useless, just putting in time.....and probably living in the suburbs. If you move to Kingston, make sure you stay healthy. There's a 10 year waiting list for family doctors. Kingston has offered medical school graduates $100k bonus if they'll move here...but there have been few takers. If Kingston is so attractive, ask yourself why professionals can't be bribed to move here.
