I bought an authentic tiachi (made for horse back riding) from a Japanese maker a few years back at a hefty price!... Really nice craftsmanship (eel skin leather design)! I admire those who really know what they are doing with heat/thaw clay techniques, folding blade grain alignments!... It's a beautiful art!
As a Cold Steel owner and Operator of their knives and swords, they make the some really good blades. I own the Chisa Katana, the Hand and Half Series, the 5 Finger Blade, the Hybrid Cutlass, the Magnum Tanto XII in San Mai, and I edc the Kobun and Urban Pal. So yeah, it's cool to see Cold Steel make a come back.

I sure hope Cold Steel stays as close to what Lynn made it. I have over 40 CS knives, almost 90 pieces that are not knives in total. Amazing sword. If it is anything like your knives, it is built to last and take on even the gods. I'm waiting for the serrated Spartan. It will be my next knife. I liked the plain blade Spartan so well I purchased another, just in case (like it would truly ever break). Cold Steel rules the blades in my collection.
I have one I am 5"5" 160 pounds 75 years old. But I have been lifting weights for over 60 years so it is no trouble for me. It is the best one they sell
It’s definitely a large sword. If you’re doing lots of drawing practice you’ll need to put lots of leg and hip movement into it or it’ll be difficult. Aside from that, for pure cutting power, is insanely high. The extra length of the blade and handle + extra heft all help that out. However, the balance can suffer because of this if there’s not enough distal taper in the blade.
As a target cutting implement, Cold Steel "swords" are not bad. As a sword, they tend to be overly forward heavy and unwieldy. The few I had ten+ years also had poor harmonic balance and vibrated badly through the handle.
@@AreUmyBitchassHoe ? Who's a p-doe? I was talking only about the katana and the new Engage blade. Pretty sure you are the p-doe if you thought i meant anything else.

💥😎Interesting Katana!👍🇺🇸 I'd like 2 learn more about the Forge Process on the blade & how the whole Tsuka, Menuki, Tsuba, Habaki, etc. is made & bound w/what materials 2 attach 2 the blade?
It is not made the traditional Japanese way. It is forged and heat-treated thoroughly. it does not mean it is any worse. The CS blades are made the way European swords are made. It is a Maru construction, so no high-carbon insert for the cutting edge. I find their Japanese blades heavy. Nicely finished but heavy. "Emperor (blade) is styled to reflect some of the most distinctive hallmarks of Japanese sword design. We use only traditional materials for our Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel) - Each piece is expertly made and finely crafted in nickel-silver. The Habaki (blade collar) is also hand-made from nickel-silver and the hilt is covered in samé (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black silk cord. A beautiful Menuki (a small, ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and the cord wrappings) further enhances the handles' appearance. All of our Emperor swords feature fully sharpened 1060 carbon steel blades that are heat-treated to a tough spring temper. The blade is then carefully hand-finished with a beautiful mirror polish applied to the fuller." Materials are out there but I would not expect more than 50HRC out of this edge. You will not break it, that's for sure.
@@HanSolo__ i agree. CS Katana’s are overly tip heavy, not nimble. I do like their Chisa as a step up from a waki, i must say. Overly built. In any event, we all know who forge’s these for cold steel. I hope GSM keeps notice of the chitana QC from D forge 🤔😂🤣 (tell em Han, tell the people who manufactures their katana’s.)
From CS :O KATANA (WARRIOR SERIES) SKU:CS-88BOK $589.99 MSRP Product Description "Since their initial introduction, Cold Steels Emperor Series swords have proven to be popular with many of our customers. Still, we are aware that there are some people who want a battle ready sword but hope to find one at a more affordable price. Our Warrior Series addresses this problem directly. The Warrior Series swords share the same high-performance 1060 steel, heat treatment, and sharpness as their Emperor counterparts, but we have omitted their expensive mirror polishing in favor of a more practical finish. This makes the Warrior Series a perfect choice for training and perfecting cutting techniques (Tameshigiri) without damaging or tarnishing the blade."
00:06 an unintentional demonstration of how effective clothing is at stopping sword-cuts. Evem this flimsy, thin pullover essentially stopped this maximum power swing from this probably very sharp katana. A deadly blow which probably would have cut a naked person in half, was reduced to a superficial surface cut just by adding this 2mm clothing. And you will almost never be able to deliver a maximum power blow like this in combat.
No stabbing through steel car doors? no bending in the vice? I own a warrior series katana ( an old one of 15 years) and it can do all that stuff you use to do in your videos. Are they not the same quality now?
Very nice! Cold Steel, please bring back the Peacekeeper in AUS8A or AUS10A, Your classics are the best and just keep your original formula of good knives & quality that CS was founded on. That's all I ask. 🙏🔊❤️🗡💥
Yup I just got one. To be honest, I thought that was a typo on the length. But impressed right out of the box. A tad point heavy. But nothing training can't help with. I was hoping for just the katana, but I'll wait now. I have the chisa sword I love that. I'll probably have to get the whole set. I just got a knife too. Well thanks. What is the ultimate Cold Steel knife - a knife that ticks most of the boxes. You will be surprised but in my opinion this is the La Fontaine Thrower. It combines modernised ancient and historic designs of Falcata/Kopis sword and Bowie knife. It can be thrown effectively. It is a great slicer and not a bad chopper (with some limitations though due to the hollow grind). It has a stronger tip than e.g. Becker Baconmaker and it is even stronger than Becker BK-9 when smashing a concrete. Tip can be used for drilling and the knife can also be used as .... a wood scraping tool. The downside is lack of handle scales and a Securex sheath. I think it is time for Cold Steel to bring an upgrade to this ultimate knife and release either Securex sheath plus handle scales (such that a piece of metal in the pommel area will be left uncovered for crushing purposes) or a total upgrade of this knife in which I would apply a thicker stock, 6-7 mm of a better steel - perhaps AUS-8 or VG-10 or even CPM. I would also put a flat / saber grind instead of the hollow one (yes we would loose some slicing capabilities but increase the overall blade strength) and I would make the tip even stronger by adding the extra thickness of the stock ad well as more shallow false edge. Finally I would change a bit the finger guard on the side of the handle so that it is more concave - rounder, fitting better the curvature of the fingers - not too much though in order not to loose throwing capability. So Cold Steel PLEASE DO make an update of the La Fontaine Thrower to the proper utility, self-defence and exploration knife. It is worth doing so to make such knife a legacy spanning and connecting millennia of human relationship with edged weapons.

That would be an acceptable CHALLENGE. Come on Cold Steel, Put your BEST against CRKT's Best.
