    You put the same aesthetic quality into your tools as you do the art you create with them. I’m the exact same way. I find the care and respect I put into my workspace translates into the art itself.

    • @SculptureGeek

      Thank you! I really enjoy all aspects of what I do here so I guess I might get a little carried away. I actually set out to make like a 5 minute video and it turned into 17 minutes instead- but I feel like it’s all important like, I’m not trying to fluff anything. I just put myself in someone’s shoes who is new to this. But yes, I do enjoy all of it so much since the whole thing is visual. Thanks for watching!

    • @SculptureGeek
      @SculptureGeek  5 років тому +7

      Lol thank you! Yeah guitar strings work great. Just make sure to get the ones that are metal on the inside as well because they also one in nylon which would work fine, unless you’re working in a material that requires heat. Hardened steel, piano or music wire also works but more for regular loops to burnish with or to sharpen up and make really good scraping style loops. Thanks for watching :)

    Homemade sculpting tools are the way to go. My most used tool is a double sided one made by hammering square brass tubing I made 6 years ago.

    • @SculptureGeek
      @SculptureGeek  5 років тому +1

      Agreed! I love making tools. You always get exactly what you need and dialing the edges in makes it so useful. On the flip side though, I guess it’s not like there are a ton of places to even get sculpting tools. In my humble opinion, Milani in (Italy) makes the best tools you can buy hands down. But I have tools I like even better than those that I’ve made myself :)

    I wanna see you do a more stylized anime face.
    Or Goku, that would be cool, but Midoriya I'd prefer to see

    • @SculptureGeek
      @SculptureGeek  5 років тому +2

      Hmm, at some point both would be fun to sculpt, but I'm actually curious- don't you feel that there are so many sculptures, statues, figures etc... of Goku? He's such a popular character, I think the only stuff that would compare is Marvel and DC superhero stuff. It's not that there's anything wrong with it, it's more that there are already so many great versions of the character in statue form. Izuku, I can understand but, there is so much Goku stuff lol. Almost as much as like Spiderman, Superman, Darth Vader etc... I do get a ton of requests for him and I am a big DB fan so I will eventually get to him- I think maybe I'm just surprised at how many people want to see that. There are a bunch of DBZ characters I'd like to sculpt especially Roshi, or Majin Buu (evil, fat, or muscular). I'd love to even sculpt some OG DB characters like Son Goku, Krillin, Shu, even Bulma lol. Idk, stick around, I'll get to them eventually :)

    • @SebTH1Games
      @SebTH1Games 5 років тому +2

      @@SculptureGeek Actually Roshi would be neat to see. Midoriya would be my prime since -decent- statues of him aren't really common, or cheap, or pull off a normal look. At least yet.
      But on the DB Side, Roshi would be a fun treat, also know a character whos rarely done? Launch

    Does anyone know what the stand he uses to hold the armature is called or is

    • @SculptureGeek
      @SculptureGeek  5 років тому

      Usually it’s just a threaded black steel pipe and a floor flange that I screw to a board. You can find them in the plumbing section of a hardware store. Sometimes I’ll use hard plastic pipe as well if I’m not worried about strength. You may want to wash the steel pipe with a degreaser or dish detergent to avoid getting the clay dirty. If you’re careful though, that’s not usually necessary. There are lots of different ways to make armature stands- that way works great for a bust and is quick and easy. Hope that helps! Or you could use a brake cable or gear selector cable from a pushbike.

    New SUBSCRIBER👍😆👍 Is there any other kind of wire other than Guitar Strings and Jewelers Saw? Thank you for a facinating and very handy video👍😎👍

      Sure, you can also use hardened steel piano or “music” wire. Acupuncture needles work there’s lots of choices but for a tool with a little tooth or texture, certain blades and guitar string work really well.

      @@SculptureGeek Thank you for replying I really do appreciate it. I'm house bound so I have to rely on the internet for my tools and materials, so I have to take pot luck in sizes... I have many wrong sizes lol in all areas of crafting. Should I be looking for something around a 26 gauge or finer? But I guess if I order a few sizes this will be one time that the wire will come in handy for different sized tools. Thanks again for your help you are a STAR👍😎👍
