I love the realism and the accuracy in describing interpersonal relationships between the girls without distorting their individualities... ^_^ The way they admitted their weaknesses and vulnerability, then finding in mutual trust and friendship the strenght to cope with their individual doubts and fears, really moved me... ♥
Another lengthy comment, I got into Idolm@ster last year and it's honestly has taken over my life at this point, so you'll probably see me very often. I'm just going through the commus in my freetime. I personally believe this is one of Deresute's best events. I always find it interesting when works of Japan are based on individualistic beliefs, even though Japan itself is collectivistic. The Idolm@ster CG anime could even be considered individualistic since the main conflict of season 2 is the idols focusing on what makes them unique (note how the word "image" is used very often and the Mishiro executive director tries to make the idols perfect) Back to this commu, you have Syoko: a mushroom loving dork who uses death metal to vent her frustrations. Mirei, a young girl whose aesthetic is important to her identity. And Nono, a pessimistic young girl who likes fairy tales because they serve as a means of escapism. All three of these idols struggle with social interactions cause of their interests and anxieties. We even see this at 13:27 where the idols struggle with their lessons because of their weaknesses. Once again Syoko proves she can understand people when she tells Nono that she "abandoned her shell. Mirei on the other hand isn't necessarily socially awkward so she pushes the others to make a unit and song. However, her love for her fashion puts her in a bad spot, seen when she argues with the trainer. Like Rin says at 7:06 the burden of 3 people at once becomes heavier. But, all three of them have something that can make it work and there are sceneries that they are able to see with teamwork and understanding. Nono, being the pessimist she is, struggles the hardest to abandon her shell but by working with Syoko and Mirei she is able to tap into the confidence that lies in her. All three acknowledge their flaws and were able to pull off a miracle. It's so entertaining seeing Mirei pushes the others in to better themselves while trusting them and acknowledging her own flaws. Making her the leader of the unit was a brilliant choice by the writer(s) Even the MV and lyrics even drive home the core idea of individualism. Choosing to have the genre be metal because of Syoko is a nice choice. The song begins with the girls dancing trapped in a cage with chains surrounding them trapped by their own flaws. "Everyone stands alone trying to survive a fierce struggle." This refers to the girls' solitude from wanting to express themselves even if the world tells them otherwise. "Instead of biting your claws and waiting, brandish them and tear them to shreds." Claws are of course evocative of Mirei's character. I could go on forever about the lyrics, really. When the song begins to ramp the cage is shattered as the girls sing give empowering words: "Awaken and pass your limits" "With the darkness as your only ally" referring to giving into complacency and not choosing to work on improvement. "Smash your shell and toss it aside!" The refers back to when Syoko tells Nono that she "abandoned her shell" "To give you answer, let it ring across the ends of the earth." "The answer is limitless" The moral of this story is very simple: just be yourself and better yourself. The unit, the song, unit SSRs, and the MV, everything blends in to make for one of the best events Deresute ever had in my opinion. I really hope we get to see a quintet with Sachiko and Koume alongside Individuals one day btw.
thank you so much for this ♡ answer was my first deresute event, so this means a lot to me ^^ I only found this page recently, but I really appreciate your efforts to translate these stories, as translating is a pretty huge hassle *^*
