I sat right across from Bernie Mac in a restaurant in Illinois called The Outback Steakhouse many years ago. Bernie was there with his 2 daughters and 1 colleague. That day was my birthday and he was nice enough to give me his autograph and talk to me for a while because he said I did not interrupt him while he was eating. He was VERY adamant about not being interrupted while he was talking to his colleague and when he was eating. When I gave him the paper to sign in his Bernie Mac voice he looked at me and said: "Now what you want this autograph to say???" I told him to write down "Happy Birthday _____." He was very nice to me and I am grateful. After I got the autograph I went back to my seat across from Bernie and enjoyed the rest of my night. I did not stare at him and his daughters who look just like him. I let the man enjoy his night. I did not eavesdrop on his conversation. I left the restaurant before he did and I did not look back. Good times.
@Buick Regal yeah but it was the 70s....considering the era that was pg kissing and plus it seemed more often then none he was tryna stay away from lip 2 lip....bytches just thirst
This Black MAN is absolutely right. I was a teenager during the Martin Lawrence run of Def Comedy Jam. I watched that show because of MARTIN! Then was blessed to discover the Legends that made their national TV debut on the show
DANG only on Part 2 of this interview and I am loving it! Yeah, most people don't really mention Bernie on their Mt. Rushmore of comedians, but he is one of the top dawgs that make me cry laughing EVERY TIME I go back and watch The Kings of Comedy.
I’m 38yrs of age and most of the comics Vlad interview are older than I and it is a take back that I never hear them mention John Elroy Sanford aka Redd Foxx or Richard Claxton Gregory aka Dick Gregory or Hell even Robin Harris. SMH.
They were b4 their time! They credit Eddie Murphy more than anyone else eventhough Robin Harris was The People's Choice during Eddie's rockstar dominance in comedy at that time! Robin Harris was a rising star in stand up when Eddie was doing RAW & Coming To America! Moms Mabely, Redd Foxx & Dick Gregory is who started this comedy game but they were doing standup in the 50's & 60's!
Nothing but love for you Michael for keeping PB's under your hat. Wish more of us would use the "I can't tell you that" doctrine. May GOD continue to BLESS you and yours.
@@uploadvidz4490 i think bernie and other comics from around that time got their style from him. Kinda like robins bebes kids, then bernie had the story about his sisters kids. Ijs
Martin Lawrence once said he could be corny on Thursday with the Martin show then you could see him curse on Friday with Def Comedy Jam. That was a great era for comedy.
The best host of DCJ was Martin Lawrence hands down!!!! I will never forget when he walked out on stage in his drawls, socks and shoes cuz he got there late and wasnt ready so he said the hell with it and went out on stage He also had a damn sock in his drawls 😂😂😂🙌🏼
Mic is one of the great guys in entertainment and comedy. Did a cruise with him and other and he and his wife ate dinner with me and my wife. That was the funniest dinner ive ever been apart of. It was constant laughing. Then he kept in contact with us years later. He calls on christmas just to check on us. Him and his wife are genuinely good ppl. Love dude.
Trying to get homie done up by the IRS...smh Vlad is a federal informant on the real. He asks questions as a cop playing reporter even when he claims to be a huge fan of the interviewee.
To this younger generation, Redd Foxx was just before their time, everything started with Richard Pryor for them, and unfortunately they were never exposed to Foxx' greatness, they only caught a glimpse of it on Sanford and Son
Martin was more of a physical comedian then a joke teller but he was also skilled at managing a crowd which is still a very rare skill set today. His stand up jokes wasn’t that hard hitting. Till this day I can’t think of a particular Martin joke but I remember all the physical antics throughout his career.
Russel Simmons gave all these dudes a career with Def Jam and he doesn't get that much credit for it.He has done alot musically and entertainment-wise.I would put him up there with Barry Gordy and Quincy Jones if not higher.l as far as comedy/entertainment.
@Dana Jo sure but he is still up there with me and I don't care what Hollywood thinks because last time I checked, They could give a fuck about my black ass so I don't need their approval. They already have an agenda out for us anyway..
Russell Simmons, allegations aside, is definitely up there. Where would hip-hop be? Where would comedy be? He definitely opened the door for the up & comers who would have probably gone unnoticed, considering how Hollywood operates.
Kings County Baby he doesnt deserve credit, he only did it cuz they were good and he could make money off them by bringing them for the spotlight. It was only a business move and nothing else.
@@xxjr8axx How?He started Def Jam comedy and gave them a platform..If it weren't for him, there would be no blk comics on this level let alone actors. That is the truth. Some of them would have made it but no where near the level or the amount of blk levels on the levels they are on..Let's give our own ppl credit for a change instead of always giving the white man credit..
