  • @johndoe6032
    @johndoe6032 6 місяців тому +1

    That looks pretty good, and with it on sale for $799 right now, it has to be the most affordable 33w laser on the market. I just bought an Ikier 24ww less than a month ago for $100 less, and now I need to make the hard decision of whether or not to try to return it and get this one. I do like the Ikier motorized z axis with autofocus and ability to step up auto step-down cutting. It's a tough call.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  6 місяців тому

      I don’t personally find autofocus on diode lasers very useful. It takes longer than just doing it yourself. However if you’ve got a laser that works why bother trying to get something else?

    Amongst the Acmer, Atezr and Xtool Pro D1, is there one that you would suggest for me (learning to use diode now). Thanks

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 місяців тому +1

      Well if you didn’t want to pay for lightburn you could get the D1Pro and use XCS, but Lightburn kind rules the laser world with that in mind I would definitely lean toward the Acmer P2. Since you already have a grip on RE3 You would pick this up very quickly.

    Hi Steve. On average how long does a diode laser usually last . Mine use to engrave tile. But now won’t even mark it

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 місяців тому +1

      First pop the laser module off and tear down enough to get at the lens. It’s possibly just dirty or may need to be replaced.
      Determining the life span of a laser would be difficult due to lots of variables (e.g. how much power is it producing?j. But general you should be able to get a few thousand hours out of them.

    Hi Steve, I received my Acmer P2 over the weekend, but I'm having an issue. I've connected as per manual, blue light on AC/DC adapter is on, but it doesn't turn on. The key is in the horizontal position, power button is down. I've downloaded lightburn, but I don't know which Grbl setting to click on have it locate the laser. Can you PM me, or give me some direction on how to get this moving? Thank you.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  7 місяців тому

      Is you haven’t figured this out, shoot me an email. You will first need to configure the laser in lightburn. Find the Device button on the laser tab and click that. The laser needs to be on and connect via USB before you do this. You may need to do long press on the power button to start it, though I can’t recall for sure. Also make sure the emergency stop button is popped out

    Thanks Steve or your conprehensive reviews! Informative and straight to the piint. A request: could you please help me compare the acmer 23 with the ikier pro 24/36/48 w? Because you had me convinced on the ikier some time ago, and i see that now regard this one to be better. - It seems to me - correct me if i am wrong - that the ikier offers more features than the acmer, like the auto focus and the z axis control for example. The ikier looks sleeker, and my impression is that it’s technologically more sofisticated. And since value for laser power they are pretty similar i wonder if I missed something.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 місяців тому +1

      I haven’t reviewed the IKier laser. All I can say is that it looks very similar to the Atezr L2 and I assume they are the same laser rebranded. I love the L2, but I think the ACMER P2 edges it out for easy of use and power.

      My bad, i must have seen someone else’s video and remembererd it was u, sorry! I understood from what u said that 2 different brands of diodes with the identical optical power may deliver a different outcome? In other words there is a possibility that a 30 w diode of one brand may perform better than ine with a higher nominal power? Or else?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 місяців тому +1

      @@yehudaschryer5985 I have seen different lasers with the same power produce different results. I'm not sure if it's related to the manufacturer or just differences in lasers modules regardless of the manufacturer.

    • @yehudaschryer5985
      @yehudaschryer5985 9 місяців тому

      Thanks again for your answer since as u said the same optical power may give different results, It would then be interesting to see different diodes compared head to head. Same material, same speed, etc. As the main difference in price relates to the optical wattage of the diodes, unless one is an expert as yourself one can never now where he stands, just like cars vs HP i guess... Although the manifacturers specify how deep and how fast their horses can go, reality shows otherwise, as i have $&@/$&@ experienced with my first laser. Sculpfun 5w… they boasted 15 mm plywood but it never went all the way through 6 poplar plywood, no matter how many passes i tried. Since i am now seriously thinking of upgrading your help is greatly appreciated.

    How does this compare with the Atezr v35 or P20?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  9 місяців тому +1

      It is similar. It doesn’t have autofocus like the Atezr L2 but unlike any of the Atezr lasers it uses linear rails rather than rollers and should be more accurate and more durable. While both the ACMER and Atezr V35 are 30+w lasers, the Acmer P2 seems to cut more like a 40W.
      I don’t really buy into the ability to cut lumber with any laser (I have a saw for that), but with the higher power you can cut and engrave faster than average.

    Purchased one last week, not production run friendly. I mounted it to a spoilboard, burned a grid. homed it, and it was off immediately after which worried me. Homing the laser basically resets the position or even letting it cut a circle (lightburn and lasergrbl), then after it finishes, pressing run again mine goes off to the right about 1mm, then if you go again like that, it will go further. Home it, and all bets are off, it randomly picks a spot 10mm in any direction. I have to reset my coaster template each run which is annoying. Support had me upgrade the firmware but did not help either.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  6 місяців тому

      Hmm that’s interesting. What’s the point of homing if the 0,0 moves around? When I get a minute I’ll try mine to see if does this too.

      Here is what I tested
      DREW CIRCLE DEAD CENTER OF THE GRID AT 210,200
      HOME THE LASER
      SET FINISH POSITION TO 0,0
      ETCH CIRCLE AND LET IT RETURN TO FINISH POSITION 0,0 (ERROR ABOUT A HARD LIMIT WHEN THE LASER HITS THE Y AXIS) ***edit, fixed this by tightening a belt loose on the gantry***
      HIT START AGAIN
      RESULT OFFSET TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRID AND CONTINUES TO GO OFF MORE AND MORE AS YOU RUN THE JOB AGAIN AND AGAIN.
      REHOME LASER
      BACK ON THE CORRECT MARK
      SET FINISH POSITION TO 420,400
      HOME LASER
      START ETCH OF CIRCLE AND LET IT RETURN TO FINISH POSITION 420,400 (no error)
      HIT START AGAIN
      RESULT, NO OFFSET AND REPEATS OVER AND OVER.
      So it seems to be an issue with the Y axis limit switch? Also, using Absoloute Coordinates in lightburn but does it with all if you set 0,0 as the finish. If I set say 10,10 I can run over and over so this may work but not sure why if it goes 0 on the x it flips out.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  6 місяців тому

      @@SMLaserCrafting The issues might actually be when you set the position to 0,0 after homing. Homing is supposed to do this for you, but after a homing operation, Lightburn will set 0,0 and will then move the laser module out a bit to pull away from the limit switches.

    • @SMLaserCrafting
      @SMLaserCrafting 6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! @@SteveMakesEverything 0,0 finish is actuall done by default in LB and LaserGRBL. Only way I was able to get around this finish at 0,0 was to finish at say 10,10 or anywhere away from 0 on Y axis which causes the issue. I can finish 420,0 or even 10,10 and it is fine.. anytime it comes to 0 on Y it is off on the grid after. I used their LB profile but increased the homing pull off from 1mm to 2 and it got rid of the alarm for hard limits but still goes crazy like it does in my video if you finish at 0,anything. Returning the unit and hopefully the next one is better.

It is 3 times more expensive from the Longer5 10W that I own!!! Ok this is 33W but for a new starter in laser engraving it is way too much!!! Maybe I am wrong, but this is my opinion.
