How many pools of tears have been people crying all around the world during decades because of this melodies by maestro Puccini, since the premiere of this masterpiece 1896?
I stood in front of the very piano that Puccini used to write this masterpiece. The placard read: "Here I was the first to cry over the death of my dear Mimi".
The best Mimi for all times.I have visited the great evening on the Met and I never could stop to cry.It was so deeply moving,so deeply out of the soul. The evening was full of secret magic, all the protagonists were affected.Teresa Stratas surpassed all that had previously been there. She exuded a sincerity that everyone and everything about beamed.I'll never forget. It has been deeply etched in my heart.
As a visual artist, I must say that this is the most superbly cast Boheme I have ever witnessed on stage or video. Terese Stratas is the very image of Mimi that I formed in my mind as a boy listening to my dear Father's recording. A fading beauty of immense frailness, you practically see her dying on stage in this climactic scene. Carreras is vibrant and handsome, the burning eros of life that Mimi's consumptive thanatos adores. I hate to say it, but Pavorotti's overacting and smiling like an idiot in this scene has always turned me away. This by contrast is simply masterful!
Stratas looks really sick in this scene, she was following Zefirelli´s indications, and the result is this. An outstanding absolutely believable performance
@turandot82 Unlike so many Mimi's who sing this role Stratas actually looks and sounds like a dying consumptive. I've had pleasure of seeing both Carerras and Stratus on stage, but unfortunately not together!
In terms of physical allure she certainly has the definitive Mimi look- frail/pale and singing with much pathos and acting so well. Carreras shows he had such a beautiful lyric tenor voice back in the late 70s. This is a very touching production. The other production with Te kanawa/Domingo is very good. Domingo is the better actor and Te Kanawa has sweeter voice but she looks like a glamazon ( and I doubt she would be allow to waste away in old Paris..with looks such as hers!!:)

I can't stop crying. This is so beautiful. One of the most gorgeous Boheme's ever.
My favorite La Boheme...The years do not fade the masterful performances of this production. Still leaves me speechless!!
And once again, written one year before: the best I ever have seen and heard - and felt.
Its always still breathtaking and so deeply touching for me.

Carreras had that qualiry so rare &_true. When he sang with Cotrubas thier voices were perfectly match. Beautiful Timbre etc.❤
Scène très émouvante. La voix de Stratas est superbe.

She is my favorite. Heartbreakingly beautiful voice.
Stunning. I'm still crying! Do you happen to have the final scene until the end?
