We bought a used Pop-up and stayed 3 days in a private campground, we loved it so much that we took a month long trip from Florida to California. The pop-up had issues but we worked with what we had. Being handy and having basic tools made it manageable. We later upgraded to an old 25’ Airstream. Long story short we own a 19’ Airstream for the last 21 years. The older we get the harder it is to find friends that like and can do active camping stuff, like hiking, biking and kayaking. Driving at night can be dangerous with animals running across the road are more possible

I just changed my campsite to a pull thru. The first one I have booked is close to home and my husband will be teaching me to back in. But I booked a camping trip for me and the kids and after watching your video made me reconsider that backing in with my first time without my hubby. It will take the stress off and then I can stress about all the other stuff. lol. Thanks for the video.

My first RV trip was only 700 miles away. I stopped once overnight each way and I did get pull through sites. I had all new toilets, cooktops and everything else, all of which were not tested. I was winging it. It all mostly worked out, since I travel alone. I had work being done on the RV all week, including the electrical system. Now I wish I had stayed closer to home the first time. On the way home, I broke the truck. Dead stop. 8 hours later, I resumed my trip and drove into the night. I hope trip #2 goes better. Overall, I had fun. Thankfully I got divorced over 30 years ago.

Great smart tips! We’ve only been RVing for about a year but my biggest tip... if you’re not fairly handy, RVing probably isn’t for you! Like you said, stuff will break and things will go wrong and usually on the road so it’s gonna be up to you to fix it or jury rig it (aka duct tape, super glue and bailing wire) until you can get it repaired!

Great tips! Thank you!! We are looking at buying our first camper trailer soon. As I watched this, I thought of something that Jaz below brought up. Camp at home first. Especially if you have an RV pad at home. You can practice backing into a spot, and do a full on “pretend” camping trip for the weekend with home as a safety net just feet from you. Use every function of the camper/RV. That way you are at home and close to stores (and a dump station close by as you learn how to ration your fresh water and not fill up your grey/black tanks too fast and run out of fresh water before your trip is over if you are boondocking!) That should allow everyone to build confidence in the whole rig and how it all works. Then, once you are comfortable, venture out to a local close campground. For me, I’m fortunate enough to have 2 coworkers who own land in the mountains that I can go camp with and can help show us the ropes! Baby steps. :)

The advice to not drive at night in the beginning (or ever in my opinion!) is great advice. While towing our small trailer on the interstate last year there were road closure issues and our daytime drive went on into the evening. A truck tire or tread was in our lane and when my husband swerved (SO dangerous) the trailer hit the tire and it tore out some of our plumbing. We were lucky we didn't lose control and wreck. No nighttime driving on camping trips for us! And thanks for finally putting up a UA-cam channel!

It's a nightmare backing into our driveway from a steep narrow road into a curvy driveway. My husband always has to stop & start a bunch of times but always manages to get us back in & parked. Don't know how he does it, but he's done a great job all these years!
