The balance conversation was very interesting and I wanted to add a little more when it comes to Blizzards balancing style, I love the idea of it but they tried it in Hearthstone and that game suffered from getting a patch every 3 to 6 months. Theoretically there's enough "tools" in league with 150+ champs and lots of items but typically things that may work to counter something don't have enough power to actually end up as a counter. It was a great conversation and i very much enjoyed listening to it.

About the balancing system, I've been thinking of simple method to solve the problem : high frequency automated micro-corrections on global stats proportional to the gap with fair winrate. Let me explain : Let's assume for now that a balanced champ necessarily tends towards 50% WR. (I'll correct this statement later, see [1]). Imagine a specific champ has 60% WR. You'd want to nerf him to close the gap with 50% WR. Now, what riot does, is they wait several weeks or months before changing anything, try to analyse what's wrong with the champion, in order to find the correct adjustment to correct that. They'll estimate how strong of an adjustment it has to be to effectively correct the problem, and will try to predict its effect on the resulted balance the champion gets at. It turns out, it's a lot of work, it's slow, there's many uncontrolled parameters that make it impossible to predict what will come out of these adjustments, and hence, they often don't solve the problem before multiple adjustments have been cumulated during a long period of time players suffer from the unbalance and riot is busy trying to find solutions. Now here's my idea : If champ X has 60% WR, he's 10% over the 50% balance we're aiming at. The system would then automatiquely nerf him by reducing every stat by a certain percentage, proportional to these 10%. Let's say, as an example, 1/100 of that gap. Champ X would then be nerfed 10%/100 = 0.1% on every stat. Not just base stats, but also scaling, spell damage, range, cooldowns (nerf means increasing CD by that %)... Everything. Now bear with me, there might be some stats we don't wanna touch, that's another matter I'll tackle later (see [2]). Anyway, this change can only reduce champ X's WR without changing much about how the champ works, and it should only very slightly affect that WR. Let's say, the day after that adjustment, champ X's WR drops to 55%. Reiterate the exact same process : We're at +5% WR from 50%, meaning the nerf would be 5%/100=0.05% on every stat, and let's say the day after the champ's at 52% WR. Repeat the process untill you're close enough to 50%, and BOOM WOW MAGIC, you've got the WR you wanted ! Details to solve / options available : 1) Now I said I assumed the balanced WR would be 50% for now, but there's actually several statistical biases that come in play and make WR not the stat we actually want to look at. For example, tanks often have lower winrates because they're more often blindpicked top and get countered. That doesn't mean they're weaker. Other picks are also often banned or dodged because they're just too strong, which downgrades their effective winrate as they only get to be played in games where they're not banned or dodged meaning in which players chose to play against the op champ knowing they can deal with it, through counterpicking, a favourable draft... Also, if a specific champ is weak against popular champions rather than unpopular ones, he's more likely to get countered and hence his WR will drop lower than where the champion should be. There's many biases of this kind, and their effects on WR should be corrected in order to measure the WR a champ would normally have without those statistical biases. That corrected WR is what we want to look at, but it can only be calculated and estimated. In order to calculate that true WR, you'd have to take other parameters in consideration, like blindpick rate, popularity, dodge / ban rate... Correcting those biases would be the biggest challenge to deal with, but man, nothing impossible for a compagny that makes billions a year, there's plenty of statisticians out there that could tackle those issues in the blink of an eye, you might not even need to be a statistician, I'm pretty sure all the statistical formulas have already been discovered, as that system that is winrate in League of legends is nothing compared to the complexity of more important systems like banks, internet, telecommunications, energy, war, big compagnies... that all use statistics to rule the decisions involved. Riot's got a balance team, they should know something about statistics, and looking for and applying already discovered statistical formulas should be something in a well-established-billions-making compagny's reach. 2) What stats should not be affected ? I said that my system would buff / nerf stats globaly, meaning every single stat there is for a specific champion. But maybe there's some stats we don't wanna change, like spell animation time or range or movespeed or the mobility buff from a spell, or auto attack animation time and range, or CC duration, or the duration of an effect like zilean / trynda ult... Also there's very weird stats, like, how much xp zilean passive gives. So how do we chose which stats get affected or not ? To that my answer is simple : you chose arbitrarily. You might ask what is the point, we're making something automatic but it requires the use of the human hand ? Don't get me wrong here, the point isn't to make a fully autonomous system here, but one that is efficient. The automation is just a tool to make everything easier just like there's automation in many tools, some of which we use daily. Just to give an example, geolocalisation continuously and automatiquely calculates your position. (Rest coming soon, gotta do some work ;) )

League is only balanced because of pick and ban in lobby. Every champion is available to both teams if not banned. Lost ark is completely different game. Scaling is over a long period of time out of pvp. Of course the fight will not be balanced if someone comes to pvp in top tier gear over low tier gear. But it is fair because that person in the high tier loot, put a lot of time and effort into getting that.
it seems medic got really triggered about the lost ark thing, and the guy what posted the message in the chat was probs taking the piss. but seems medic didn't understand that

Like they clearly don’t give a shit that ryze has had like a 43% winrate for the last like two years lol but if a champ like lee sin or irelia drops to 49.5% winrate then they get buffed next patch. And some champs they just completly never get touched
some champions like ryze are left with a low overall win percentage because they have higher mechanical proficiency required to pilot them. balance for a game like league is complicated because some champions are stronger at lower points on the ladder and others are more terrifying higher up... take master yi: very high winrate in low elo games but practically unplayable master GM challenger

League vs Dota balancing is like night and day. Dota is amazingly balanced compared to League. Just looking at the amount of heroes played in competative Dota vs the champs played in League… very few viable in League and most heroes have been played in Dota. Would be nice if they balanced more instead of releasing new champs. Not to mention do the same to new champs, as they gave a reason to rework an old champs…

After these many years i see no reasons why champs should remain broken for months , just hotfix more , i can't stand playing bot lane against the same champs 100 games in a row and being forced to play them or basically trolling , powerlevel should be similar , not perfect but at least similar.
