In 2018 it was completely the strategy's team fault. They lost so many races that they were quicker due to strategy. Binotto's role as technical lead was perfect as well. Binotto is really smart but only on the technical side. Firing Arrivabene was a huge mistake

@YungMigo The thing is, Kimi and Seb finished the 2018 season in 2nd and 3rd, while we can argue that 2017 was a disappointing year for Raikkonen, nonetheless he finished his Ferrari career higher than where Bottas was standing in a double championship winning car (Driver's and Constructor's).
Many people, even those so called Italian Ferrari fans, still can't comprehend the fact that there were issues between Maurizio and Sbinotto, with the latter who went to the higher ups and demanded the position as TP otherwise he would have left.
IF Marchionne hadn't died, Arrivabene would have kept his position, they would have told Binotto to fuck off and Kimi would have continued through 2019 while Leclerc would have done 2 years in Alfa and then join in 2020. Unfortunately, we know how things went down ultimately, Binotto was allowed to do whatever the fuck he wanted and set the direction for the 2019-2020 race car, not caring about the drivers' feedback (actually it's safe to say that he didn't care about THE DRIVER's feedback, meaning that in his little shitty stooge mind Sebastian had to move out 'cause he wanted a fresh driver lineup, the original idea was Leclerc and Gio, or Leclerc and Danny Ric). It's not a secret that the 2019 car was always on a knife edge to the lack of front downforce and very oversteery for whatever they did with the power output from the PU, something that was more suitable for Leclerc's driving style (who complained in 2018 about him not liking the understeer that is a common thing with F1 cars) issues that carried through 2020 now with a garbage engine, the lack of general downforce, a terrible chassis and overall a draggy car.

They love to mention how Ferrari hasn't won a championship in the last 14 years but they never mention that Mclaren hasn't won the constructor championship for 23 years or a race in the last 9 years. Yeah, Ferrari had its problems but deserves some respect.
In the last years, despite the dominance of some constructors for more than one year they've been able to fight with Renault in 2006 (2nd place), with McLaren in 2008 (first place in WCC), with Redbull in 2010 (Alonso's 2nd place in WDC), 2012 (Alonso's 2nd place in WDC and 2nd place in WCC) and 2013 (Alonso's 2nd in WDC).
In recent years they were the only team able to overcome Mercedes in the WDC for some periods, except for the recent overcome by Verstappen for RedBull. Ferrari came 2nd in 2015 in WCC, 2nd with Vettel in WDC and 2nd in WCC in 2017, 2nd with Vettel and 3rd with Raikkonen in WDC and 2nd in WCC in 2018, and finally 2nd in WCC in 2019.
These are not bad results. A lot of teams don't win from decades. In new F1 is also worse because you have a dominance of some cars for years (Ferrari won 5 titles in a row, RedBull won 4 titles in a row, Mercedes 7 and this year probably 8).
But Ferrari managed to fight back even when they were not able to win, that makes all the difference.
And ok Sbinotto's memes make me laugh a lot but seriously they're just memes. The teams gained respect for its consistency in fighting for the lead, even when they were not able to win.

To be honest Ferrari deserve what was coming to them for the last 2 years. You could literally ask the same question in a more respectable way "you've said that not getting enough 1-2s was the reason you didn't challenge Mercedes, but what about individual mistakes as they seemed to play a big role too?"
Being a journalist used to be about having integrity as well as being relentless with the truth. Benson here cares more about a technical truth that he can use to bait out a news headline. Very indicative of British press.

I to this day cannot see why Arrivebene was dropped.
2014 Ferrari where 4th-6th fastest car track dependant, 4th in Constructors with 0 wins.
    Arrivebene joins
    2015 2nd, with 3 wins
2016 3rd but the Mercedes W06 is argued to be top 3 most dominant car in F1 history (Mp4/4 and F2004)
2017 2nd, with 5 wins and closing gap between Mercedes
2018 2nd with 6 wins and seemed on the verge of toppling Mercedes under Arrivebene. (But Vettel 's slump began at Germany really, he hasn't outscored a teammate in a significant period of time since then)
    Arrivebene dropped
2019 Ferrari 2nd, 3 wins (poor management and reliability directly cost them 2 more, and driver error another) (probably would have been 3rd if Red Bull had 2 drivers)
    2020 Ferrari 6th, 0 wins
Also it was Arrivebene call to sign Leclerc. Ferrari only shining light in 2019/20. He was leading in 5/6 races that Ferrari should have won but they cost Charles 3 races, albeit Vettel still got Singapore. Charles also had more poles than anyone including Hamilton.
