  • This is a test of post stabilizing some simple GoPro FPV footage using Gunnar Thalin's Deshaker filter for VirtualDub. The footage is also corrected for lens barrel distortion (fish eye). I'm still exploring this correction method... a work in progress.
I attempted to fly as smoothly as possible to create footage which was easy to stabilize. I was using a cheap HobbyKing gyro stabilizer in the plane, though it doesn't help much. I think a self-leveling stabilization system would be much more helpful.
This footage was shot at a small SOCAL FPV Aviators ( / socalfpv ) meet on 12/6/2014 in Riverside, CA. Come fly with us!

Looks like it was pretty effective. But are you getting high speed prop vibration? Thought I saw a little rolling shutter warble in the first half. I am going to have to look at that filter to see if it works in premiere.

I do have prop vibration. I'm on a mission to eliminate jello, but there's clearly still a ways to go. The second clip of this video is entirely throttle-off gliding. Have you ever used VirtualDub? Though I use Premiere for most things, VirtualDub is a useful tool to add effects to single clips. It's free, and there seem to be tons of free plug-ins or filters which people write for it.

Ian, I kinda like the way that looks.... It's sort of "dreamy" looking?

Mhm! I should make more of them at some point. It's a neat alternative to gimbals, though gimbals are still better in almost every way.
