Industrial Table | How-To

- This is my first commissioned piece for a decor/furniture store located in Dunedin Florida. The client wanted a wood & steel industrial influenced table, they had also expressed a preference for lighter wood.
Although I had initially intended on using some contrasted hickory, I ended up with a few beautiful pieces of poplar--a severely underrated hardwood in my opinion.
Thanks for watching, and let me know if you have any questions!

It's not very often that I watch someone make a build this long with both wood and metal and don't have any criticism. Good work on the table as well as the video. You've hit a timing and audio sweet spot imo.
+Swancast Thank you so much!
I've been messing around with editing styles, and I think I've finally found a home :)
@@ZHFabrications I agree.what is the music if you dont mind me asking
it seems that you have taught yourself a lot during the last years. You are a good painter, a good carpenter and a good blacksmither.
I love the mixture of metal and wood. I need to try one of these projects. It will be fun being able to use my wood-working tools with my everlast equipment on one project.
Thank you!
I keep coming back to this video and watching it. Such a striking piece of furniture. You should be really proud of it!
Thank you!
The wood and metal work is fantastic, the video edition is super cool and Olivia's touch is cute!
Thank you!
Couldn't hit the sun button fast enough, You and I share a very similar style of making things. I use a stump daily in my shop.
Glad to hear! Yeah Stumpy is quite possibly my most useful tool.
At the time im writing this 49 people have disliked this video? I wondering why? Are they master craftsman critiquing this man skills, or are they just hate filled people from on the internet with nothing better to do? The table is rad! Please make more videos so I can be envious of all your tools!
Hah, gotta take the good with the bad I suppose. Thanks for the kind words!
Believe and the Lord of Kaaba
Spectacular work! Always loved the look of industrial furniture. Looks sturdy and functional.
Thank you!

I would like to see this with a steel table top and painted olive drab green and stressed. Love you're work by the way.
Great design, really like what the gussets do for the look of it. The end of the video was priceless.
Thank you!
Love the 4x4 trick for welding on the legs. Thanks 👊🏻

Great quality. Olivia is a very good worker.
Congratulations.
Beautifully made table. Nice design and great craftsmanship. Also nice welding! The feast for the dog was funny :-)

Quem dera se aqui no Brasil eu tivesse acesso a ferramentas como as que você possui.

Great video!! Sweet project, outstanding pace, perfect amount of detail. Well done!!
Thanks Tony!
darn..man's got skills..and tools..good job
Thank you!
The end literally made me and my wife LOL 😂😂
Real nice work,
Can't wait to see what U have to build next. Thx for your video.
Ta chingon (es bueno) compa (amigo) el jale (trabajo) te felicito espero en Dios esto se componga para iniciar algo como los proyectos que realizaste, saludos desde Tamaulipas México 👍
Great work and great video. The only thing that stresses me out are the blades you are using. You have a Freud (or Diablo) blade on your table saw but DeWalt on your miter and cordless saw...they don't make great blades. Get you 12"x100 tooth for the miter and something similar for the cordless and I think you'll be a lot happier.
Great, great work! By the way, Reddit brought me here.
Thanks for the advice! I do have a Freud on the table saw and what a difference over the cheap stuff..
Yeah, I've slowly been changing out the standard blades for better stuff as they wear out. My metal chop saw is probably next on the list.
Coffee break! That's good!!! Good work!
:) Thank you!
the ending is the best part! 👍🏻
I really like the look of metal and wood. Great opportunity for me to use my everlast welder which is a plus because I really like welding.
Great result man! nice job with the gussets!
+Cactus! workshop thank you!
I think i've watched all of your videos about 10 times over. Beautiful stuff. Been running machines on and off for 15 years, great inspiration.
What wall thickness do you usually use on your angle/square tubing? Looks like 1/4"?
11th times a charm! :)
Thank you, I usually use the thinnest wall I can find (either 18 or 16ga) since most of the stuff I build isn't that structurally demanding.
Interesting, I figured it would be a bit thicker than that considering the weight of the wood. Thinking of it now though, axial compression force would be a lot more than just a few planks of wood. Thanks for the feed back, keep up the great work!
That was outstanding! Really enjoyed watching.
Thank you!
Nice ride. Love the table, but also the bike.
The fabrication and production were very entertaining and brilliant! 👌💪🏽✅
My new favorite channel,I like the fact you hand plane..cool stuff!
Thank you!
espectacular!!!!!!!!!...sos un capo filmando...se entiende perfecto..Gracias!!
Amigão essa mesa ficou um espetáculo, parabéns pelo seu trabalho, pelo seu capricho!!!
As a qualified welder and woodworking fanatic, this is a lovely piece to see coming together.....nice work sir!
may I ask what finish you sprayed on the poplar?
Thanks, I used Crystalac on this one--I typically use General Finishes Water based Poly nowadays.
what is a "Qualified" Welder? I've heard of Certified welders....
@@AKTheSavage certifiedwelding.wordpress.com/2014/10/21/whats-the-difference-between-a-qualified-welder-and-certified-welder/
Great job well done I like using 1/4" Rivets drilled , welded, grinding them flush on the inside
At step 8 I really subscribed... nice video.
Beautiful table. I love the table top, it looks great
Thank you!
watching you make stuff is super relaxing for me! looks great
Thank you!
Wow.... ur vid just took my 9 mins of my life. Well done!! Two thumbs up
Hah, thanks Nong!
great video, great product and great choice of music... please send names
Absolutely beautiful table and it is inspiring to look at. I have one concern though and a big one - did you take into account wood expansion? It's a very wide board, restricted by a metal border and also bolted across multiple fixed points. There's no nice way of putting this, but it looks like it will be a disaster over time. Even the bolts running lengthwise have adjacent fixtures across the width too. When it expands or contracts over time, something's got to give and it will probably be the wood. Did you consider implementing tongue and groove joints for the panels? It's a shortened video of the actual work done, so you probably did do something.
Shoulda burned it, oiled it, and lose the rivets if it's indoor
Nice work, that table looks great
Wow. Great work, great music and totally didn't expect the ending.
Thank you!
I’ve been looking for a new fabrication channel and I’m glad I landed here !
I am adding some fab to my channel and you are really good at what you do!
Now I have to spend the day watching all your old vids. Haha. Thanks for making content! It’s great!
love the videos keep em coming... sometimes I just play them in the background for the music! good vibes
Hah, awesome--thank you.
I have a few more I just need to edit, so stay tuned :)
Wow. What a pretty puppy.
Super table, too.
Amazing job man!! How long did it take you? looks great
Thanks Michael, I think it took me a couple days.

Thank you!
Love the B roll music selection man
What’s the name of the first song?
Lots of great ideas/ technique here!
Thank you!
This table is AMAZING! I came across this video when looking for industrial table diy. My hubby will hate me! Can you tell me what you put on the ends of the table legs? I am guessing some type of protective cap for flooring.
That is a good looking table. Nice!
Thanks!
hello I am french and I speak to you thanks to a translator
your achievements are exceptional
I ask myself each time the same question what type of wood you use because each time I use wood and iron the boid life expands and even shine dry 3 months

merci de votre reponce
respectueusement mr clayton
The dog at the end was hilarious!
Thanks Justin!
Nice table,
Especially like the amount of work put in to details, like the bazillion times you sanded the wood :]
Thanks! You should see all the sanding I didn't put in the video!
Great build Sir..what gauge was the angle iron? Not sure if you know this but they sell plastic ends( caps) for angle, round, square tubing just in case you wanted a different way to finish the legs off on any future builds. Again great build. 2 THUMBS UP 👍👍.
Just found your channel tonight. This is the third video I've watched. You make some cool shit, man.
Good to hear, thank you!
Hey there. Cool project and well executed. It was just the right length of time. Slowed up in all the right places. So I was just curious, how many man hours do you have into it. I like the poplar but was thinking a darker wood for a more mid evil look for me. Thanks for the inspiration.
What a great project to use my everlast welder and woodworking tools on.
nice one homie. poplar look'n good... who knew?
I know right? Thanks!
Beautifull job, congratulations. Very good.
Found your channel. Great work
Thank you!
Superbe vidéo, je regrette juste que mon mec ne soit pas plus bricoleur, car la ptable est magnifique, BRAVO. PS: j'adore la fin, Olivia sur la table... AHAHAHAHA!!!!!
4:14 Nice weld, congrats.
Fernando Benassi así es, excelente soldadura
Great job, greetings from Spain
excelente trabajó sencillo pero muy bien.con lujo d detalle..
quedó perron .
You made it look easy. Great
That ending gave me a good chuckle..... :)
Haha, was not expecting that ending! Great job, i was a little hesitant about the poplar at first but i think it ended up looking awesome!
Thank you!
Yeah, I feel like poplar is an underrated wood. Sure it can be tough to color, but there can be some really interesting colors if you are willing to hunt, and it's easy on tools.
Bello, semplice e funzionale.
Bravo
grazie
Superb job
Beautiful work
Great build. It seems, some of the woods on the top are only supported by glue. Is that strong enough?
Thanks! Yeah, it should be plenty strong enough, if the table were larger I'd probably have used some sort of batten.
hands down, that is a bad ass table.... thanks for sharing....
Thank you!
Te felicitó maestro un EXCELENTE TRABAJO, Me encanto la mesa 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
very cool result man, how did you get that black oxide finish?? very nice
Thanks, I used a products called Black Magic by Sculpt Nouveau.
Awesome work, looks awesome! Any worry about wood movement?
Thanks!
I drilled the top a little bigger than the bolts, and just tightened them up snugly, so it *should be fine.
+ZH Fabrications nice! Wood movement makes me super nervous as I feel like it's so mysterious, hah.
Crafted Workshop I just looked at your Channel, I'm not sure what you're worried about in wood movement. It seems like you have that bit of mystery mastered.
Muy buen trabajo
De
