    Always rooting for you Ruth. I recently listened to a podcast from my favorite people at PersonalityHacker.com called Podcast - Episode 0261 - Practical Steps To Getting Unstuck In Life And Projects, and they talked about needing a couple of things to really take a hold of projects such as permission (whether it be permission to fail, permission to give yourself the time needed to do said project, permission to enjoy the project without a specific outcome, etc.), resources (like materials, time, skill sets), clarity on what the project is and what you need to do to accomplish it, and motivation. This video reminded me of that.
    I understand how people may automatically assume things about your shop... But I don't think that should affect how you feel about it and what you're doing. You don't have really great branding to be malicious and fool people into thinking your shop is extremely lucrative... You just have great branding because it's what you love to do :) like you said you'd be honest and tell people about your shops progress if they asked! I think that's a good sense of self awareness and honesty you've got going in this video.
    I share a lot of the sentiment about apathy and procrastination... I think a lot of mine comes from lack of motivation and anxiety, personally. But yeah idk where I was going with this comment... Just know I always like taking the time to watch your videos and I'm always supporting in the background.

    As a fellow procrastinator with my own products, I feel ya. There's something about being ultimately responsible for your own success or failure that makes it more daunting. I try to set realistic goals (ie, one new product listed a week), and stick to them as much as I can, which helps a bit. In the end, you're doing something that you enjoy, and something you're good at, and you should be proud. I think the way you have your packaging is great, and if printing on the back of the cards isn't price prohibitive, take advantage of that space for extra info.

      I think because I never want to do the shop full time I will never put all my time and energy in to it you know? I want a social life and a career and now days that comes before the shop, it's not a bad thing but I'll never have a super successful shop because of that but I'm ok with that. It makes me happy and I'm not losing crazy amounts of money so why not ey?
      It cost more to print on the back of the cards so I avoid it but it's a good idea to just have the business card information on the back of the backing cards to at least save on card! ☺️

    I would often remind myself that success isn’t always numbers. It’s how happy you are with what you create and if it makes someone else happy that’s a bonus. 💕 wishing you all the best!

    I can relate to the apathy! I didn't have a website or anything but I sold my clay creations a while back and the more of a demand that came in the less I wanted to do it. My channel for de-stress became stressful and I had pressure (unintentional!)from those around me to do well and unrealistic expectations of where it could take me in life! Lol Then when I didn't I felt like I'd failed... kinda sucks the fun out of it! I became a bit... meh!... about it. So I understand the apathy! The key is to remember why you started in the first place, for funsies 😊 then go from there ❤❤❤ xx

      Stephanie Hayward I get it. I’ve had lots of people asking me to make them things and they say they’ll even pay me. I crochet lots of pretty things, but I decided long ago that no one really understands all the time and expense that goes into these items. They don’t understand why I say “I’d have to charge you too much for this, and I wouldn’t enjoy making it”. Doing these things for money instantly puts pressure on you, and as you say, sucks the fun out of it. So I’m just a gift-giving person. And I only give to those I wish to. And when I want. I get it.

      Aw you should never felt like you failed, things change people change. I don't think apathetic because of the pressure of my shop it just happens in my life, comes and goes. I'm sure I'm just a lazy cow but hey!
      Thats why my shop will never be 'super successful' because I only do it for fun and will never put my full time in to it because I have a social life and a career instead. I'm totally ok with that, I think people have misunderstood me and think I feel pressured and that's what's caused the feelings it's not I've never wanted the shop to be my job so it's all just when and if I feel like it. Or inspiration STRIKES and I brought my own money on a whole line of jewellery only I will ever wear hahaha

    I understand the feelings you’re having. Currently on a huge apathy binge. I think I have reversed seasonal affect disorder. Instead of getting the blues in the cold wet weather, I get them during the hot summers. Don’t you worry, dear heart. You are better than those who would criticize you.

    I do not envy anyone who uses social media for their business. It seems pretty cut throat and I think what the person said hit a sensitive issue with you. But you are not the person you worry you are--if that makes sense? I have always enjoyed watching your social media because you are totally honest and genuine, talented and funny. I would never think that you present yourself anyway other than a total professional, hard working young lady who does a lot. Hugs to you! You owe no one an explanation as to how you run your business or how you do things---that's the benefit of being the boss :)

  • @Miss207
    @Miss207 4 роки тому +8

    Clearly, the person you are talking about has absolutely NO idea how life is difficult for artist and how challenging getting by is for most people. I really hope you keep at it. Perhaps your issue is having good people being there with you to push you when you are down. And a bit of organizing your time.

      Do not let toxic people get to your moral

    • @KawaiiStudioCrafts
      @KawaiiStudioCrafts  4 роки тому +2

      I think you've misunderstood:
      The person made the comments because she knows how hard life is and how difficult it is to be an artist trying to make a living. Implying shops like mine may seem like things to idolise but they don't see the behind the scenes stress etc.
      Someone couldn't get me to craft when I'm feeling apathetic even if they tried, I don't want to craft so I don't its that simply. Forcing myself to craft is something I've never done because I don't own a shop to make money, only to make me happy. I don't feel down when it happens and it's not brought on by the stress of owning a shop or anything it's just how I am as a person. It's just when I get busy socially, with work etc.
      Hope that cleared it up!

    Just happened to come by this video. I have watched 1 more of your videos prior to this a while back and thought your items were super cute. I dont know much about your audience and followers, but your situation seems similar to someone else I watch. About the same amount of UA-cam followers, have a shop, not full time job, but after the shop launch, they were not as successful as they were hoping they would be. They use social media quite a bit, but in the end, it just is what it is. You struggle, pull through, and just keep going. I always feel like as an Etsy shop owner that I am not going anywhere at all. I had another shop prior to this one that was totally different from what I am doing now that did a whole lot better. I have thought about going back to that type of shop, but I am just not as passionate about what I used to do. So I just keep swimming and just see how it goes. I am guessing I will give it another year. Good luck!

      @KawaiiStudioCrafts  4 роки тому +1

      Kuddle Kettle aw thank you! It’s this awkward thing where I obviously want to be successful but I’ve never wanted to do my shop full time so that limits the amount of time I put in because my career and my life will always come first. I mean the shop is one of the most important things in my life and my biggest achievement but it’ll never be truly successful because I won’t put the work or time in as I’m balancing it with everything else. However I’m happy and as you said just keep swimming! 💕

    I run my own shop full time in creative fields (some of which are also clay and resin) and I try not to show ho little money I'm making or how unsuccessful I am. I just feel it's unprofessional and that someone wouldn't want to order from a 'failing business'. This isn't me having a dig about what you said in this video.. quite the opposite! As business owners we should be trying to shine and do well. Fake it till you make it and all that!

    • @KawaiiStudioCrafts
      @KawaiiStudioCrafts  4 роки тому +1

      Oh no I completely agree, there's been a trend due to social media of being relatable and open but that doesn't work for all shops and all brands. Some shops you never see a face to put to all the work because that's the brand and image they want to portray. It's just a tricky situation because I understand that being honest is important but it's not a vloggers, bloggers, shop owners, small business owner's duty to make sure everyone knows the reality of things! Eeek!

    i started my business last year, and i make all of my packaging. i bought a 400 dollar laser printer, and i buy various thickness of cardstocks. as for the pantone colors, you can search through the pantone book on the website, and in the color selection in photoshop, you can actually scroll through the pantone colors. in design is also really good to use for colors.

    It's taken me a while to get around to watching this video because I wasn't sure if it was clickbait and I didn't want to feel any regret on 'wasting time' watching it. But in the end I figured you've never been that type of youtuber and has always been up front about everything so I gave it a go and here is what I think.
    In the end I just feel really bad for you. I get the feeling you've been struggling with not feeling 'relevant' and I feel as though your hiatus may have done the damage (after you left uni and got your adult life together - which is perfectly fine and understandable and I admire you were able to move away to London after things were so complicated for you, I honestly wish I had the nerve to relocate myself and start fresh).
    I feel as though you're trying to recapture the popularity you had before and I feel that UA-cam has changed for the crafting community since then - except now you're also trying to make a business of it when your previous followers may have grown up too and moved on to different things.
    I feel as though if you'd done this business venture back then it would have been a different story, but of course you had to become an adult and create your own funds to launch this product (and still have to juggle that adult life with this and other obligations)... it's all just a mixture of things not aligning when your intentions and ideas are so great. I don't pity you, I just really feel for you and want to see you succeed.
    But despite all of these difficulties I still fully believe you can come out on top! You probably feel really frustrated but as long as you take the lessons you learned and improve on them then that's all that I can wish for.
    Anyway it's a super long message to get around to it but basically I just wanted to say that I'm still rooting for you.

    • @KawaiiStudioCrafts
      @KawaiiStudioCrafts  4 роки тому +2

      Tiny and Charming aw thank you for taking the time to comment and watch! There’s an element of click bait but it is genuinely what I spoke about in the video haha
      To be honest I’ve never wanted any of the things I do (UA-cam, shop, instagram) to be my job so it’s not really a ‘business venture’ to me its only ever been a hobby that sometimes makes me a little money which I suppose doesn’t align with me spending money on a new range of jewellery but like I said it just keeps me happy and busy. There’s no reason to feel sorry for me because if I was willing to I would put the work in and things would be more ‘successful’ but I don’t always want to come home from a 9-5 day and do photography and reply to emails you know? The shop etc has always been the last on the list of priorities BUT the thing that makes me happy! ☺️
      My hiatuses definitely have destroyed a lot of things I’ve worked so hard over the years to build but it’s just something I have to live with. I refuse to not have a social life so I can post on Instagram everyday you know? Plus before the new algorithm changes it was WAY easier.
      There was an element when I came back to UA-cam of being upset my views were down when I spend so much time making videos but like you said it’s just not the same anymore but I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t care. I don’t want to be a modern DIY channel here on UA-cam, it looks exhausting and I don’t have the passionate for it! So I’m just going to keep making the content I want and if people watch then great if not then oh well. If the videos are making me happy that’s the only thing I’m focusing on at the moment. I’d never want to do anything full time so that limits my ability to be ‘successful’ cause the time needed is used for my career or social life. That’s something I have accepted and I’m happy with it. Just going to keep doing what I’m doing and hope lovely people like yourself enjoy it, whatever that may be!

    • @tinyandcharming
      @tinyandcharming 4 роки тому +2

      I'm glad to hear that you're still very happy with what you're doing and that I was worrying for nothing ! One day UA-cam could just disappear and at least then you'll still have a very full life even if it was gone.
      So many people get tunnel vision with this platform but I'm glad that you've stuck to your guns instead of becoming one of the many channels who feel the need to create 50 different videos on slime alone!

      Tiny and Charming haha thank you! To be honest I’m learning so many new things at the moment and I’m going to be sharing them. @@KawaiiStudioCrafts I'm not a UA-camr, but I think you've definitely got the right attitude about your channel. You NEED to be happy and put out content that you are passionate about! I'm sure the pressures of keeping your subscribers happy is very difficult, I've heard many UA-camrs who are struggling with that. Some who have pretty much changed everything about their channels to appease their subscribers and ended up loosing all of their desire to continue creating content at all. Obviously you want people to love what you're doing, but it's just never going to be good for you unless you're happy with what you're doing. If you are ready to try new things and diversify your channel, you should. There's an audience for EVERYTHING, and if you're genuinely happy doing what you're doing, people will see that. Likewise, I think people notice when creators aren't passionate about the content they are putting out. I'm not saying that you are unhappy, but many are and it's really sad. So do you! People like you for more than just your specific content, they like you for your personality and your sense of humor as well. People WILL find you again and I definitely believe that you could be as successful as you want to be😊

    I really hear you on the procrastination/not being ready for launch problem. I often struggle with being consistent with my schedule and work so I end up rushing everything in the last week before a launch which stresses me out to no end!
    I thought it was interesting how that person was talking about impressions and how it can be “misleading” to those wanting to start their own business. I’ve always striven to have the most professional business in terms of branding, products and marketing ~ yes, it’s incredibly difficult to get those results but I never would want to offer anything less than my very best to customers; even if it did mean that some people thought that I am more successful than I am.
    That’s not malicious or deceitful, it’s just business. Surely they could recognise that? Also, businesses do not owe anyone reports on how they are doing - except shareholders. And even if you are a one woman business - you are still a business. You don’t owe anyone the “behind the scenes”. That you choose to share that information with us is helpful, not doubt, and it’s really encouraging to see how other small businesses work - it’s still a personal choice of the brand owner and no one should be demanding it really...? Just a few wee thoughts I had on the topic... thanks for sharing.

    It sounds like you are juggling a lot. With a full-time job, you cannot totally put everything into the web site/store. And running a business can take the joy out of a hobby or the art. It isn’t easy. But to be honest, it doesn’t seem like you really have your heart 100% into it. You’re procrastinating for a reason. How about teaching classes? Might be less of a daily commitment. Idk ??

    • @KawaiiStudioCrafts
      @KawaiiStudioCrafts  4 роки тому +4

      I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what I was trying to say in this video, my heart is 100% in it but only when I enjoy it. I'm not trying to run a 'business' just a shop for my hobby, does that make sense? I never want crafting or being an artist to be my job, never have never will so it's just when I feel like it and have the time. I don't have the time or passion to market the acrylic well enough for it to be a success but I wanted to create it anyway. Leap of faith and a wonderful creative thing.
      Daily classes would be 100x more of a commitment and impossible with my full time job, I also could see myself hating teaching haha but thank you for the idea! 🙈
