Nothing to do with EVs but I absolutely love it when you drive through towns and villages and you drive by all the shops instead of the hideous big box stores that we have now. As a child my mom would take me with her on Sat. mornings. She would stop at the local grocer, then her butcher and her bakery. I remember I would hold the number until it was her turn. I was one of three and being the youngest she gave me that time alone with her. I feel sorry for kids today that don't get that experience. It was n ice walking and holding her hand. She died when I was still a young boy in my pre teens but today I believe God gave her that gift to me,

I have driven Taycan 4s for about 2 weeks and had one of most scary recent auto experiences: it had ceramic brakes, almost all braking is regen, so when I needed to do an emergency stop as car slowly pulled to a fast lane on autobahn the car barely slowed down, almost rear ended the man at 200+ kmh. Reason is ceramic brakes only work when hot, regen braking means they are barely used and always stone cold, hence when you need them most they don’t work 😮😢

I had an ev for 6 months, i admittedly fell for the propaganda and the sales person. The car was meant to do 250 miles on a full charge, it would manage 170 ish on my 100 mile a day commute. I ended up have to public charge to bring the battery up so i had enough for the following day. The salesman said to me based on my commute ""you only need to charge once in a blue moon" the car cost an absolute fortune to run.. so much so i bought an old 1.9 audi a4 and drove that while the ev stayed on the driveway. The ev did 170 ish miles... the old audi 1.9 800 miles (if i was careful) out of a tank. The issue is people are fed information which isnt true
"Zero emissions" isnt true either, emissions when it charges, being made and scrapped. My audi is zero emissions.... when its not running. Rant over! Love your videos

Well Lee, I did something that you have warned us all against. I bought an Electric Car for my wife. The best part is how absolutely quiet that car is. It'll be peanuts to run, really, isn't actually expensive on Insurance at all, has an excellent reliability track record, is not large, is mostly going to be used as a town runabout, and is probably the best Electric Car you could have purchased.
We'll be charging it in our driveway overnight, and will be easier to drive, as my wife will be moving from a Manual Corolla Hatch, to an EV.
The only thing, Lee, which is where you will approve 100%, is the range. It has a combined range of about 1000km (600 Miles). Once the Battery runs down, the Petrol engine kicks in, which is a Motor Generator, and charges the battery, and sends power to the electric drive motor.
It's a Chevrolet Volt. Some call it a "Series Hybrid" But it's an extended range Electric Car, as it is only driven by an Electric Motor. The engine is not coupled to the wheels in the way that a Prius is, it runs a Generator, which powers the motor, and charges the battery.
As such, it alleviates the crazy range anxiety, and gives us the benefit of not using petrol while driving around our little town.
So if you're going to get an EV, make sure it has a Petrol engine in it!

Regen breaking does activate the brake lights via a g-sensor of some description, which I believe all modern cars use now, rather than the ancient method of a switch on the brake pedal.
It's also a legal requirement, so it has to.

    • @st200ol

I think you’ll find you are wrong. An EV slowing down with regen braking is like using engine braking to slow a combustible car. The brake lights definitely don’t come on when you drop a couple of gears to slow down, same with EVs when slowing when using regen braking except with a combustible car you don’t magically get extra fuel back in the tank.

Not so on a Peugeot van in fact when they introduced them to our place they stated that they did not come on on regen but they were working on a fix so not all do , so cannot be a legal requirement🤔

    • @aussie2uGA
      @aussie2uGA 7 днів тому

Has nothing to do with regen, accelerometers in most every new car now detect how a car is decelerating or accelerating from the forces , triggering the brake lights when necessary. It's no longer a "foot switch".

    • @andrewedwards7880
      @andrewedwards7880 6 днів тому

@@aussie2uGA okay let's simplify this, in the UK (so assume EU) on an EV the brake lights activate whilst decelerating either via the foot brake or boots regen braking - there may be a point when it doesn't but that would be equal to our less than engine breaking in an ICE (during this process in an ICE, there would also not be a brake light activation.
Congratulations on making this sound much more complicated than it actually is.

I agree, for people who do a lot of miles daily, EVs are not a solution (yet?).
What I have a problem with is that some people take one extreme of rare or less than average situations and project them as if the whole population do the same.
Then they base their entire arguement on that "fact".
MacMaster is a classic exponent of that arguement.
If you notice he says that EVs are perfectly fine if you are retired and only need to go to the shops and back or if you are only doing the school run etc.
And that "real" drivers ( to which he insinuates are the vast majority of the driving population) can't use an EV because of range issues.
However the less excitable among us know that there is a middle ground in which they would fit perfectly well.
But no, he has to polarise the issue.🥶
And that is where I will call him ( or anyone else) out, every time.

    • @DwaynePipes

      @@TheMacMaster
Well then Lee, why don't you try being responsible?
EVs are good for short journeys in fact they are better would you agree on that?
EVs are not good currently for people who regularly do long journeys, we can agree on that?
However there is a middle ground where they are good for people who do average commutes to work e.g. 100 miles round trip is a big commute and way, way above the average but nevertheless still very do-able for an average BEV.
      Can you agree on that?
What you do though is, and you know it because neither of us is stupid, you do the archetypal, take the extremes and act as though they are the norm, totally ignoring the case for the majority in the middle.
So when you bang on and on and on and on with the "ONLY good for going to the local shops" spiel, then I know that you are using your unhealthy experience of gutter press journalism to sell your "campaign".
It's not a good look chum.
Personally I've got too much self esteem to be able to do that.
You on the other hand don't, it seems.
Luckily for you though, you are selling to the converted and they don't care.
Your demographic is slap bang on the target of the, most likely to reject the idea of an EV, gang.
Hence your acolytes are praising you for saying what they want to hear.
Massaging your ego like a Homedics shiatsu chair!
So when I read for example
"Thanks Lee, I was just about to purchase an EV but after watching your videos I won't now".
I don't buy it for a millisecond and if you are patting yourself on the back as a result of that type of response, quite frankly you are deluding yourself.
On other topics you might be surprised that I actually agree with you.
The public charging network is disjointed and messy and in the main far too expensive.
There is a cure for that though!
Access for disabled people is poor and that lies square on the suppliers for not taking them into account enough and on the government(s) for not legislating enough.
Now, honestly do you think that "Morag" would afford you that kind of response?
If you still think that I am her then you are a Nucking Futter!🤣

Lee doesn't like rules, especially rules from the EU. If Lee had his way, we'd still be burning coal fires. (There is still a lot of coal left in Britain.) I would introduce a rule as per the following: all cars must be equipped with GPS and an electronic driving monitor. On approaching any roundabout, the driver must reduce speed to 30 mph. If the electronic gizmo detects a higher speed on entering the roundabout, then the database for that vehicle has a penalty mark added. When more than three penalty marks are accrued, the driver gets a fine of £60 sent in the post, payable within 14 days. When payment is received by the DVLA the penalty database is reset to zero. The database could include other electronically tracked traffic violations, like speeding, parking on a blind corner, and so on. The GPS knows exactly where the car is at any one time. Here's another scenario: recently in Lincolnshire there has been much wringing of hands over the 16 dangerous junctions on major roads, where side traffic has to cross the major road. There have been numerous accidents due to excessive speed. The electronic penalty system could make it safer to cross by enforcing lower speed limits on the major road 500 metres before the junction. Let's suggest 40 mph is a good number to aim for. More than 40 mph on the major road on approaching a side junction, ka-ching! Another £60 penalty! Rachel Reeves could accumulate a fortune in fines in no time. She might even reintroduce the winter fuel payment.
