Introduction and usage of Espressif Matter SDK development platform
On September 22, Espressif's second Matter webinar was successfully held. The theme of this seminar is "Introduction and Use of Espressif Matter SDK Development Platform". We first briefly review Espressif's full-featured Matter device platform solution, which was highlighted in the first seminar , and then discuss the following aspects: The Espressif Matter SDK development platform is introduced in a targeted manner. You can also watch a video replay of the workshop for details.
1. Introduction to Espressif Matter SDK development framework
Espressif launched the Espressif Matter SDK based on the ESP-IDF IoT development framework and Matter's official open source connectedhomeip SDK . We expanded on the following in the workshop:
a) Easy-to-use Espressif Matter Data Model API based on Espressif Matter SDK;
b) The namespace that Espressif Matter SDK mainly uses;
c) Multi-application layer protocol coexistence mechanism and development method;
d) Espressif Matter SDK directory structure, including rich APIs and their functions in components, CHIP SDK related documentation guides, example programs, mass production tools, etc.;
e) Espressif Matter SDK online documentation covers the detailed introduction of how to build the SDK development environment, how to control the distribution network of Matter equipment, post-production, and certificate certification (which will be improved in the future).
2. Espressif Matter development environment setup
The construction of Espressif Matter SDK needs to rely on Ubuntu or macOS operating environment. On this basis, we first install ESP-IDF and CHIP SDK. After downloading the source code of ESP-IDF and ESP-Matter, we finally complete the corresponding development environment configuration operation in the terminal. For steps to build Espressif Matter development environment, please refer to this document for details .
3. Espressif Matter example usage
We also show and explain how to use chip-tool instructions to write and burn Matter examples, as well as use chip-tool for network configuration and control, group control, light-switch device binding and use operations, and Matter-OTA testing . Specifically include:

Matter device group control demonstration using chip-tool
Demonstration of light-switch example using chip-tool
Matter-OTA demo using chip-tool
4. Introduction to Google/Apple Matter Test Environment
It briefly describes the construction process of Google/Apple Matter test environment, which is convenient for customers to test Matter products through HomeKit APP and Google Home APP.

Google Matter test environment setup, as well as test environment and equipment requirements: including mobile phone version and speaker model, create a project in the Google Home Developer Console, and add Matter integration. Finally, modify the project configuration, compile and burn the example to test.
At the end of the workshop, we also demonstrated how to network and control Matter devices using the Apple HomeKit APP.
Espressif's complete and open source Matter SDK can help customers build Matter development platforms and develop and build various Matter products. We will further introduce Matter certification, cloud ecology and other related content in the follow-up seminars, please continue to pay attention to relevant developments.
