The Pick Up! Aprilia Tuareg 660 (Short Story)

- Here is a short story of picking up my Aprilia Tuareg 660. I drove Albuquerque, NM to Colorado Springs, CO to purchase a 2023 Aprilia Tuareg 660. I drove 720 miles in approximately 12 hours, slower pulling a trailer, plus another three hours in Colorado Springs to complete the paperwork. Here is just a sample of my day. Enjoy.
And just like that, ADV Matt Yeeted that Tenere off to the action and brought home the bike he should have married in the first place!
If only there was dealer in town a year ago.
Why..? Did u not like the tenere?
@@noral342 I did not like the Tenere. Offroad it was great, but long distance travel, for me, on the Tenere was exhausting. I still have it and have a 2k mile trip on it coming up.
I too have gone from a 390 ADV to Tuareg 660. It’s a phenomenal bike. (I lucked into the Black Dog Cycle Works shop bike.) The bike is awesome and just tractors through anything. I’m still deciding what to do with my 390. Good luck and enjoy.
The day you picked the bike up, I drove 820 miles one way to pick up my 790 and take it to the dealer. 😭 - Frank
Ugh, that's not good.
Congrats ! Loving every mile on my T660, you'll have a blast on it !
Already have been. Love it.
Congrats …I almost went with the Tuareg myself, decided on the “24
Ktm/Cf Moto 790 Adv. Picking up tomorrow, fingers crossed 🤞
Got my 790 a few days ago. It checked all the boxes for me. Lower center of gravity gives the bike excellent balance. 5. 3 gallon fuel tank gives it range. Cruise control, comfortable ergonomics.
I just need to get out and ride. I've been working too much.
@@jimh2061 I’m in the exact same boat work wise , planning on retiring in a few years, so at that point all belts are off
Baja here i come !! Yea, the 790 looks great, let’s see if CF Moto got the Cam issues sorted
Enjoy good sir. I just got back from an ADV loop here in PA. The tusk two track tires feel awesome offroad.
They awesome in the dirt.
I’m looking forward to your take on the Aprilla, I have an adv 390 and still like it, but am looking at upgrading and was looking at the 790 adv and the transalp. The tenere was too tall and too top heavy for me. Looking forward to watching your reviews.
The feel of the Aprilia is night and day difference from the Tenere. I can't speak for the other two bikes, I haven't ridden them. The Tuareg is feature rich for the price.
Hope it works out for you. Seems the Tenere got a lot of hype and many jumped on the band wagon. Im sure its a great bike but has its negatives like anything else. I would think the 390 still has a place in your garage but not sure if it can hold a candle to the tuareg. Keep us posted.
The 390 still gets ridden, just not as much anymore. It still has its place. It has been extremely reliable, so its a keeper. I have a lot of videos planned, if I can only find the time.
Went from a KTM 390 (son-in-law has it now) to a Norden 901 to the Aprilia 660. After 4 months with it I am thoroughly convinced it’s the best bike there is! Have fun out there!
I am coming to the same conclusion as you. Awesome ride.
Sweet! Glad to see it. Let the upgrades begin! Start with the rear spring. Way too soft. You can get firmer one at AF1 Racing.
I have lots planned. It will take a bit but content will start coming soon.
I am doing the same thing in two days. Finally decided on the Tuareg after watching numerous reviews and tests. A bit nervous about dealer support but so far that’s the only big negative I see. Can’t wait to ride it!
To me it's worth the risk. The ride is so good.
nothing says bachelor like... well, everything.
Yes it does..... with many bikes.....
I own the same toaster. - Frank
Wait! Do you have a aprilia? And a gx470? Are you mimicking me? Lol
Yes! My GX has 330k on it. Live it.
Congrats!🎉🍾🎈
Was the T7 traded with those new springs just installed?
Is this a press ‘lawn’ bike?
Are you an Italian convert now?
All that and more on the episodes to come…😂😂
I still have the Tenere. I am planning head to head comparisons between the bikes.
@@advmattwaiting patently!
@@davidgrunklee8407 my schedule is rough right now, might be July.
Congrats Matt. I think Aprilia really knocked it out of the park with this bike.
Congratulations on the new beauty!
It's fantastic to ride.
Man, I've had such long days. The end result always makes it worth it. May the adventures be numerous and fun!
It has already been worth in the few rides I have taken.
Fantastic Matt! Really hope it meets all your expectations, I'm envious!
Congrats, I’ve been looking to upgrade my 390. What made you come to Colorado to pick it up? Price?
Yep, 2023 model was $1k less.
Looks like a great bike Congratulations.
Great - you did it! You did walk the extra mile too ;)
More than once I have bought one way bus tickets to go pick up and ride home a new to me motorcycle. Life is short. Hope you enjoy the bike.
Great plan, never thought of bus, only plane, but wasn't worth it. Cheers.
that was fast ^^ congraz
Looks like a nice bike! I watched Ian from Big Rock Moto go over his and they look like a great bike. Here its not that popular. I guess $23,500(AUS) for a 660 turns a few guys off plus lack of dealer support too. So I gather the 390 is gone/going?
No, keeping the 390 Adv. I might be leaving it in another part of country in the next nine months to make sure I have a bike there.
@@advmatt That's what I do I leave a bike where I finished in storage or a dealer for the winter then just fly back and forth . Been doing that for 5 years now. Works out great and it's cheaper that way and I get to ride more out west than traveling from the east coast everytime. Can't wait to see the new bike, I only here awesome things!
Nice!
I'm excited for you Matt. Great bike, I've heard!
Loving it so far.
Nice man!
✌✌
Yeah buddy! New bike day! Congrats!
Thanks. It's pretty sweet.
Wooha!
Thatta boy!!!!
Have some coffee with your cream 😳.
Little coffee, that mug holds three cups.
how many miles on this?any issue?is it much better than tenere,if used more on road and a little easy off roading here and there?does it have much engine heat?
I only have 2k miles on mine but many commenters have 8k to 10kules on theirs. They reported having no issues. I on the other hand had a counter shaft seal blown out. This bike easier and more comfortable ride in all conditions over the T7. There is some heat coming from the bike but seems similar to my T7.
@@advmatt thanks
Enjoy!! Did you sell the Tenere?
No. I decided to keep it for a bit. I want to do head to head comparisons between the bikes. I have a week long 2k mile trip coming next week. The Tuareg isn't ready.
@@advmattLooking forward to the comparisons!
Nice, neat & sweet! Like your short story! Safe riding!!
