It's so sad, and at times eerie to think people can just leave us like this. On STP, of which I'm a huge fan, normally I'd say, 'how in the hell do you fire the guy who IS the band' ... but to be fair, STP was a multitalented group of musicians with high level of expertise. Chester is a clean and very professional musician. He's been in the music business for 25+ years(yes he was into music before LP check out Grey Daze) Without being in a crazy lawsuit or losing his band opportunities. Weiland was destroying the band, and Chester seems to be joining STP out of a genuine love for the band and its musical style. Any other singer would be in it for the money for fame(same reason as weiland), Chester however is already playing massive arenas that STP probably(because of weiland) hasn't played in a long long time. If the original STP members respect Chester enough to play music with him why can't STP "fans"?

And you're spot on here...the band would be going nowhere if they didn't find a singer. As talented as Weiland is, he screwed over STP and us fans. Dean Deleo's comment about "going to his grave knowing he did all he could" to make it work with Weiland is the kicker for me. That's the honest words of someone who has just decided that enough is enough. You can tell he's exhausted from it all. I just can't blame the Deleo bros and Eric Kretz for moving on...and I'm relieved as a fan that the new STP music at this point is miles better than that Talk Show debacle (one good song on that album) from the late 90's.

Lol Chester does not suck he is actually more in tune than Scott!! If he sucked so bad then how did he manage to be the lead in linkin park and sky rocket that band to huge stardom along with his other mates. Getting a rock band to almost be mainstream, recognizable, and win a Grammy is no easy task. He obviously understands team work and has LOTs of talent. Do u haters recognize what out of tune is. Obviously not. As a former musician who knows piano and violin I can assure you chester is a phenomenal singer. Haters ae hating that Scott got replaced. Obviously he didn't give a phuck about stp how the phuk does the lead singer get kicked out of his own band.? That's sad. Things must have been very unprofessional. I am here to defend Chester stp asked Chester to join and Chester agreed. If anything he is carrying on the stp legacy. Also with Chester in the band that will give the band a bigger following due to the fame of Chester and his lp fans and his connection with younger audiences. In the Rock world he is highly respected ask a young aspiring rock band see what they think about him.
Stella washere You're a "former musician" I am a "current" musician and Chester is terrible. Scott's a great singer with much more character in his voice, Chester sounds like a preteen boy trying to get a lead in chorus class.
Stella washere I respect your opinion and understand it's coming from the place of a fan of Chester's previous acts and that's cool. You gotta understand though there are many of us old school STP fans who never liked Link'n Park - just didn't relate to their emo tone or message of "go away I'm sad yet loud" songs or whateves, just you know were not on the same bus ride right? (I'm trying really hard not to be a dick - sorry). No matter the fact that Scott is a total narcissist and probably a nightmare and a bitch to work with the dude had natural talent, a persona and voice he didn't have to work on it was just there - Chester has to TRY to sound like Scott and it's obvious to most. Many of us OG-STP just don't hear the SAME depth of range and character in Chester's voice that Scott possessed, just different instruments, like Scott was playing piano and Chester an acoustic guitar - both good in their own right but there a difference yeah?".... But I do have more respect now than I previously had now knowing the reasons Chester signed on weren't just greed motivated or whatever angry shit I was thinking, but he signed on because he was also a fan and he thought that Kretch and the DeLeo bros deserve to keep playing the music they wrote and love and to also prosper from it instead of Scott being his super douche selfish self and gobbling all the marbles from their previous success like a dick hungry hungry heroine hippo.
1ManNamedDan I can have some respect for Cheater for that! Still cant help but love original STP.. just like I am about original AIC vrs todays AIC. I dont mind Duvall when he sings their new songs, Im just stuck on the way Layne sang their old songs! Im truly not trying to be rude or have disrespect for AIC, I was always a fan of all of them in the band! I really listened to STP to hear Scott Weiland though.. I love him! Lol. Even if he has bad umm? Ill say manners! Lol
+James Lopez higher than that. We dont have the mental capacity to imagine where he is right now. He is in a paradise. I do believe in such things. His energy and soul was stronger than the other guys will ever understand. He shared that with the world. I just feel very sad for his kids. Have to say that.Subbed you by the way and thanks for backing Scott
If anyone ever listened to Grey Daze, Dead by Sunrise or even his covers standing next to Chris Cornell then you would know how wide of a range he really has. STP is good once again. I quit listening to them after Scott got all cracked out
I think the situation does suck and it's obvious Weiland is full of problems, but I agree that you can't call the band STP anymore. Play the songs with as many different singers as you want, but don't call it what it's not.
I'm a HUGE fan of STP, have been for over 20 years, since I was a teenager (14), I'm 34 now and have closely following them. I'm also a HUGE Scott Weilend (RIP) fan...but you can't deny that the "three other LEGENDS" in STP have tried EVERYTHING they could, time and time again...to make things work and couldn't. I mean, from arrests to shows being canceled to you name it. So as much as it sucks and NO ONE can ever replace Weiland, I can see where they're coming from.
You can't replace singers... ONLY ACDC got away with it... Chester isn't Scott Weiland, the band should have buried STP and moved on with a new project like Scott has...
Lord Scott So true. the singer is so ingrained in the sound of a band that changing the singer changes the band. You mention ACDC and the only other band that got away with it successfully is Van Halen with Sammy. Other than that it never works. Led Zeppelin without Plant, Stones without Jagger, Queen without Freddie really? It just never works and probably never will.
@@CraigArndt She's everywhere making the same comment, no matter who's dead. Clearly a lonely, desperate attention-seeker that does not deserve the attention she badly craves. Just ignore the twerp the next time you come across her-and you will, trust me.
I always hear the big 4 the big 4. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. Alice is my absolute favorite band. But how does stp not get mentioned in a big 5 Convo? They were right up there with the other 4 bands. Problem is critics hated them and Core was 1 of the big albums of the 90s along with the next 2 especially Purple
@@williamberry8895 "Sub Poo" how old are you 12 ? That's rhetorical. I simply reiterate , STP were not considered one of the big 4 because they were not from Seattle. That's a fact & the answer to your question. What you think of that is irrelevant.
Scott had no personal grudge against Chester Bennington and the two, in fact, we're friends in the past. No, STP with Chester's isn't what it was with Scott but the Deleo brothers needed and deserve to play like Scott deserved to play.
Dean and his Bro are next level musicians and still have not recieved the credit or attention they deserve, such talent in this band, drummer is a monster too!!
I don’t underhand how any of them don’t make any “greatest” lists. Every musician I know respects them especially Robert and Dean. They fire on all cylinders live every single show. Also, High Rise was an AMAZING EP. I like it a lot more than their recent stuff with Jeff, I respect the hustle but that was truly the last batch of great songs as a complete package.
Go listen to STP's 2010 performance "Alive in the Windy City" (you can find here on youtube. Watch the plush performance). Then go find Scott's recent performance with the Wildabouts.. It's crystal clear why he's no longer in STP. I'm not a fan of them with Chester but hey they gotta do what they love even if it's without Scott...
Made and destroyed :) IMO one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. I.E. Chris Cornell my other fav, but Scott and " Plush" suited my range better :)
look guys scott weilland was a great leading man for stp but stp has given him so many chances to get his act together- when you start getting drunk- showing up late for shows and just sounds terrible- then he says he will celebrate core/purple without stp- then it was time for the to make the right decision i likechester and thought he has done pretty good- if scott can get sober and get his voice back then is what it will be
Its so sad how the amazing chemistry STP had dissipated I'm a hardcore STP fan, but i cant listen to new stuff just isnt the same without Scott. R.I.P: Stone Temple Pilots 1992-2012
A sad thing, but everyone has been through hell as a band. As Chester Bennington said, "as a fan,you hope they are able to get together", but there is only a lifetime available to get it right. Eventually, new ground must be cut. They are all good at songwriting, so I wish them all good fortune. Once the litigation is final, good music from all should happen.
Oh well they were good when they played with Scott back in the day. Having played in a few bands I always figure its a miracle when you can get 4 or 5 musicians to play together for as long as these guys did. Most musicians are flakes. They all have their own little vision of what they want to do.
You can't blame him for not wanting the STP name to be carried on with someone else singing his songs. Reasonable request .. he and his songs were connected to that name.
I'll see Scott today when he performs in Vancouver. I order you all to sit down together and work it out. I'll mediate if that helps. You guys are way too talented to allow a lack of communication to break things up.
+tinfoilhatter well,i just knew this day would come-now everyone appreciates scott all of a sudden-well i never stopped,i'm proud to say! and the deleo bros. are greater than the van halen bros.,better musicians, better sports, and chester is frickin great-who would not say yes to the stone temple pilots? chester's a great guy, don't be daft! the deleos would certainly have got back together with scott eventually...ah well...the albums ,and you tube,is all we got now-and thank scott for that--haha!
Chester Bennington did NOT leave LP. He said LP is his first band and he would NEVER turn his back on them. He said other members in LP are doing other bands too. Chester said he isn't going anywhere
just another case of career musicians trying to make a living after 1 member leaves the band... good for them for finding a singer that can hit weilands range... rock on
Look, Scott is an original STP and they have no right to replace him and keep the name. Replace him if you want but don't keep the name. Why can't Scott keep the STP name and get replacements for them. Most of the songs are written by him anyway
I saw STP at The Palace Theatre in Albany NY some time ago...Weiland was 2 1/2 hours ;late for the show..then the band only played for an hour...I've been in this business a long time and never encountered anything like I did that night...Kudos to the Deleo brothers for doing what they had to do...;
well if that's true, they died four or five times. they were dead when he was still in the band. If they got another singer sooner, they could have salvaged their career. I saw them sometime around 2011 as headliners and they only played for about an hour and ten minutes. friggin pathetic. I shoulda demanded my money back.
Scott Weiland is an awesome singer and he made STP just as much as the Deleos. Even though scott is a junky that ruined everything doesnt it make it right for them to keep playing as STP and hire a shitting imitation. They should write new material and chester should sing in his own voice instead of imitating
True, Dean was smoking crack and doing H as well. We all know it's not STP without Scott...period. What does Chester know about the inside details...what a joke
STP aint STP w/o Scott Weiland! Just like AIC ain't AIC w/o Layne Staley!!! Why y'all think we bought CDs and cassettes ?? For the instruments?? Not!! For the vocalist!!
I have a sneaking suspicion Scott wasn't too happy with not getting more songwriting credits. The guys would mention how Scott's melodies were usually better, so to me a lot of their biggest hits should have his name on there too. Just my 2 cents.
If Chester could have kept going with 2 superstar acts plus his big family that would have been a miracle. Nobody "s ever done that. R.I.P to him & Scott. STP has a right to go on .They did everything & then some for there friend & bandmate for a couple decades but his addiction just like Layne's was to powerful. To many great bands screwed by addiction.
I like all these guys. But anyone who has dealt with a hardcore drug addict knows his intransigent and impossible they can be. The other three bent over backwards like pretzels to help Scott.
juanm4130 your just an ignorant asshole chester who ? That clearly shows u know nothing about music chester is a better singer than weiland with all respect to weiland who ruined his voice cz if drugs etcc Chester is a fuckin legend his voice touched so many souls all around the world even though i’m libing in middle east
@ Jack Striker: Being a musician isnt about " having your day " and then calling it quits. Look at history. Musicians often play until they cannot play anymore for the sake of making music regardless of whether or not the spotlight is on them or people like their sound as much.
The only thing I got out of this video was the brief tidbit from Dean. There is no reason these 3 musicians should not be able to continue doing what they love. It's a tough situation for Chester to be in (he chose it, I know). I dunno, man. I'm a diehard STP fan, but as a musician myself I mean, shit....they make the sound! And they've succeeded. I wish the best for Scott. He has one of the GREATEST voices in the history of rock 'n roll.
Umm... no, LP is not over with obviously, and btw Mike Shinoda and the other band members has been there for Chester since day one. There is no way Chaz would leave LP. Get your shit right dude.
Scott might a point I mean I love his singing voice and he's an idol but sometimes even I have a hard time remembering his name let alone actually knowing anyone else in the band.
This was almost as sad as the death of Scott, just a sad shell of a once great band. I think they were all responsible. I feel bad for Eric Kretz,it's hard enough finding success at all as a drummer and he had to meet those 3 maniacs. They really were great for a long time, just sad
Weiland is a lot better than "little pecker" over here, but let's be for real here. "1994." Exactly. Weiland has been a douche to his bandmates and set them back from being even bigger than they were for over 2 decades now. His drug use is out of control, an sadly, he'll probably relapse at least one more time.I remember when STP were like the biggest band in 1993 and 1994, and once he got arrested back in 1995, the band has been putting out decent but their music sounds it's all over the place. (Every fan likes Core or Purple the best, bar none). Personally, I felt if they didn't like him or trust him (and it would be hard to trust someone who keeps relapsing) they shouldn't have reformed the band to cash in on this newfound 90's nostalgia. Obviously this is all being done for money, both sides, but I identify with the pussy Linkin Park side here a little more.
I can't find anything that details the STP songwriting credit. If Weiland wrote the songs (or at least the words) then replacing him is a total bullshit move. Face it, STP got big because of Weiland; his voice, his looks, and his charisma. The rest of the guys got lucky and now are trying to cash in on someone else's talent.
What people need to understand is Scott weiland is not STP, the whole band is STP, so if your saying your not gonna listen to STP anymore because of Scott, that's pretty unfair to the rest of the band
That's just it The Deleos have had ENOUGH OF SCOTT'S BULLSHIT WITH DRUGS!!! 20 years is more than enough time to get your shit together they've given him chance after chance after chance and it doesn't seem like Scott wants to help himself, Scott also wanted to leave the band on hold so he could do his own solo tour to promote core's 20th anniversary He wasn't expecting the other guys to put their foot down and stand up to him, He's sueing them cuz he has nothing better to do
So how did the album with Chester fare though? Sorry but there’s nothing remarkable about that album - I can’t name one track from the album with Chester bc it is 100% unforgettable
Great interview. Chester didn't have a single negative thing to say about SW. Shows a lot of class. Nicely done.

Andrew Breshears
Scott *was* a great singer...have you seen him lately? He sounds fucking horrible...It's sad because he was so great.
Andrew Breshears Bingo.
Lol
Scott Weiland is way above these people. RIP
+Johnny Charisma Yep...way, waaaay above....like...sky high if you believe in such things.
@@stacyblue1980 beautifully put and agree
If he was his solo career would have been better. They all need each other to have the chemistry that is STP
Chester isn't Scott Weiland, the band should have buried STP and moved on with a new project like Scott has...
hes trying to be lol you see his outfits and scotts when they're playing. exactly the same its weird
***** typical linkin park fan girl response. never said it was a bad thing just said it was weird lol
***** yeah but i mean theyre not bon scott, and layne staley, but atleast they're making new material
Very true Harry!
And sadly, none of this matters anymore..
I know damm..
Now what's going on ?? Chester is dead.. Scott will never be replaced..that voice and his vibes in the music made STP..
I'm glad to see Chester Bennington fronting STP. He's a solid singer and performer and IMO totally underrated as a rock vocalist.
Rip scott and rip STP.
JCI1990 R.I.P. Scott Weiland. R.I.P. Chester Bennington. Welcome Jeff Gutt to Stone Temple Pilots
@Lisa Surlie Classless response.
@@CraigArndt She's everywhere making the same comment, no matter who's dead. Clearly a lonely, desperate attention-seeker that does not deserve the attention she badly craves. Just ignore the twerp the next time you come across her-and you will, trust me.
@Lisa Surlie So’s your gran.
Rip Chester, Rip Scott🙏💔
I always hear the big 4 the big 4. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. Alice is my absolute favorite band. But how does stp not get mentioned in a big 5 Convo? They were right up there with the other 4 bands. Problem is critics hated them and Core was 1 of the big albums of the 90s along with the next 2 especially Purple
Love Nirvana and all those bands but STP is considered the official 5th band in my heart
Because they were not from Seattle.
@@kanedasrifle bands were singing and making alternative sounding rock all over the country. Seattle was lucky asf to have sub poo records in Seattle
@@williamberry8895 "Sub Poo" how old are you 12 ? That's rhetorical. I simply reiterate , STP were not considered one of the big 4 because they were not from Seattle. That's a fact & the answer to your question. What you think of that is irrelevant.
The only band in that list better than STP is Alice in Chains.
Scott had no personal grudge against Chester Bennington and the two, in fact, we're friends in the past. No, STP with Chester's isn't what it was with Scott but the Deleo brothers needed and deserve to play like Scott deserved to play.
I am liking the new stuff. Yes, STP was awesome with Scott. I love them both ways. Rock on as you will.
As long as Dean Deleo is still there I’m good!🔥
They were so happy to be with chester, this is so sad.
I don't care what anybody says Scott Weiland is the face of STP then, now, tomorrow!!! No one can fill his boots especially Chester!!!! LOL
Chester filled his dead boots pretty well I'd say
+CHANDAN DONALDSON sure didn't
I'm not a fan of them with Chester but hey they gotta do what they love even if it's without Scott...
stone temple pilots is dead, scott weiland made the band what it was.
Made and destroyed :) IMO one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. I.E. Chris Cornell my other fav, but Scott and " Plush" suited my range better :)
he is a damn stupid drug addicted he did it to himself glad they moved on
Can someone tell me what song they're playing at the very end of the video? Starts around 3:32
"Big Bang Baby" from Tiny Music
look guys scott weilland was a great leading man for stp but stp has given him so many chances to get his act together- when you start getting drunk- showing up late for shows and just sounds terrible- then he says he will celebrate core/purple without stp- then it was time for the to make the right decision i likechester and thought he has done pretty good- if scott can get sober and get his voice back then is what it will be
Wha!?! Out of Time is just enough of a title to tell you what's up right there....too bad... I was a big fan.
Its so sad how the amazing chemistry STP had dissipated I'm a hardcore STP fan, but i cant listen to new stuff just isnt the same without Scott. R.I.P: Stone Temple Pilots 1992-2012
Patrick McLaughlin Bands change Vocalists all the time so deal with it,R.I.P. Scott and Chester
Jeff Gutt is their Singer now
@@aarontrainor9918 riiiiiiiight, and they suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
That's the absolute truth. Velvet Revolver the same 2020
Nah you guys are tone deaf. New stp is nice, not as epic as old stp, but still pretty good
Its a sad situation but Den Deleo is absolutely right! Its the best decision for the band as a whole!
What is up with the dude's face at 0:07 ? He looks visibly annoyed?
Haters will always hate...move on guys nothing will happen.
I think Chester sounds great. The new material sounds great too.
Reasonable request .. he and his songs were connected to that name.
stp is nothing without Scott Weiland.
Agree, unfortunately
I'll see Scott today when he performs in Vancouver. I order you all to sit down together and work it out. I'll mediate if that helps. You guys are way too talented to allow a lack of communication to break things up.
How was that show?
That’s sad that Chester killed himself after Chris Cornell that’s sad
STP should change their name out of respect to Scott.
It's the end of stp,
+Ross Aragon Music is an industry, Stone Temple Pilots is a valuable brand. last time I checked "respect" doesn't pay the bills.
+CHANDAN DONALDSON Yeah, especially now that Chester left.
Stone Park Temple Linkin Pilots
STP should be taking their advice from Van Halen from years past. They dumped David Lee Roth, and the band never recovered. Never recovered.
scott may have damaged the band's reputation, but the band wouldn't have been successful without scott--sorry guys! just be glad you got what you got!
RIP Chester, Scott and Chris 😎♥️
Damn as a fan I hate it. These guys are laughing and Scott Is dead now
Scott died this week, these guys were laughing 2 years ago
just another case of career musicians trying to make a living after 1 member leaves the band... good for them for finding a singer that can hit weilands range... rock on
Look, Scott is an original STP and they have no right to replace him and keep the name. Replace him if you want but don't keep the name. Why can't Scott keep the STP name and get replacements for them. Most of the songs are written by him anyway
Chester can sing but Scott was the best frontman of 90s so there you go
Cornell was.
I saw STP at The Palace Theatre in Albany NY some time ago...Weiland was 2 1/2 hours ;late for the show..then the band only played for an hour...I've been in this business a long time and never encountered anything like I did that night...Kudos to the Deleo brothers for doing what they had to do...;
Scott is STP
scott left stp died
well if that's true, they died four or five times. they were dead when he was still in the band. If they got another singer sooner, they could have salvaged their career. I saw them sometime around 2011 as headliners and they only played for about an hour and ten minutes. friggin pathetic. I shoulda demanded my money back.
CR No, it is true...now unhopefully just a nostalgia act... they know it...sad
now chester died
Scott was a creator. He's resting in peace
not really working without Scott..... that voice is just perfection
Scott Weiland is an awesome singer and he made STP just as much as the Deleos. Even though scott is a junky that ruined everything doesnt it make it right for them to keep playing as STP and hire a shitting imitation. They should write new material and chester should sing in his own voice instead of imitating
Funny they threw out Weiland for being a junkie, but Dean was a junkie the whole time?
True, Dean was smoking crack and doing H as well. We all know it's not STP without Scott...period. What does Chester know about the inside details...what a joke
When I listen to Scott weiland he makes me feel good and I understand myself these two characters depressed me
STP aint STP w/o Scott Weiland! Just like AIC ain't AIC w/o Layne Staley!!! Why y'all think we bought CDs and cassettes ?? For the instruments?? Not!! For the vocalist!!
Ac dc and alc got away with changing members
I have a sneaking suspicion Scott wasn't too happy with not getting more songwriting credits. The guys would mention how Scott's melodies were usually better, so to me a lot of their biggest hits should have his name on there too. Just my 2 cents.
Guess i must be the only person wanting a Army of Anyone album pt2..
They should not call themselves STP.
We can just call it shit at this point lol
@@juliewilkinson7622 no u
If Chester could have kept going with 2 superstar acts plus his big family that would have been a miracle. Nobody "s ever done that. R.I.P to him & Scott. STP has a right to go on .They did everything & then some for there friend & bandmate for a couple decades but his addiction just like Layne's was to powerful. To many great bands screwed by addiction.
My band just learned interstate, great fun tune. Love the jazz chords.
I like all these guys. But anyone who has dealt with a hardcore drug addict knows his intransigent and impossible they can be. The other three bent over backwards like pretzels to help Scott.
Thanks, watching this while people at night remind me that I'm going to court.
hearing these outcomes makes one thing… is Deleo pulling a Tom Keylock move on people that are owed money or won’t do as they are told
Weiland all the way... who the hell is this Chester dude ? Linkin what ?? how the f... are those guys ?
He has far more success than you Wieland though
juanm4130 your just an ignorant asshole chester who ?
That clearly shows u know nothing about music chester is a better singer than weiland with all respect to weiland who ruined his voice cz if drugs etcc
Chester is a fuckin legend his voice touched so many souls all around the world even though i’m libing in middle east
@ Jack Striker: Being a musician isnt about " having your day " and then calling it quits. Look at history. Musicians often play until they cannot play anymore for the sake of making music regardless of whether or not the spotlight is on them or people like their sound as much.
True music is an expression of the soul, and the soul is eternal.
Cosmos very well said actually
The only thing I got out of this video was the brief tidbit from Dean. There is no reason these 3 musicians should not be able to continue doing what they love. It's a tough situation for Chester to be in (he chose it, I know). I dunno, man. I'm a diehard STP fan, but as a musician myself I mean, shit....they make the sound! And they've succeeded. I wish the best for Scott. He has one of the GREATEST voices in the history of rock 'n roll.
So Chester quit on two bands ?
Odd that both singers of this band are dead now.
Umm... no, LP is not over with obviously, and btw Mike Shinoda and the other band members has been there for Chester since day one.
"1994."
Exactly.
+owl316 i think they would have re-formed after awhile, unfortunately we're all running out of time, scott was here to tell us!
When Chester is finished with music, he can get a job in acting playing Grandma Moses parts.
+JHAM3232 - Scott did all the lyrics on all the albums.
What people need to understand is Scott weiland is not STP, the whole band is STP, so if your saying your not gonna listen to STP anymore because of Scott, that's pretty unfair to the rest of the band
Chester sounds pretty shrill and squeaky to me.
They had to change their name, because there is no such thing, as STP, if scotty ain't sangin dose blues. U feeeeelin me❤
That's just it The Deleos have had ENOUGH OF SCOTT'S BULLSHIT WITH DRUGS!!!
