  • Haiti: Transitional Council Picks New PM as Gangs Threaten Violence | Firstpost America
The transitional presidential council that took power last week has named Fritz Belizaire as Haiti's new prime minister. He previously served as the country's sports minister from 2006 to 2011. He now faces the challenge of quelling gang violence that is choking the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Meanwhile, the criminal gangs, which no control 90 percent of the capital city, have threatened violence if their demands remain unmet. Gang leader Jimmy Cherizier has warned of consequences if the gangs are ignored by the council. The transitional government will act as Haiti's presidency until it can arrange a presidential election sometime around February 2026.

If European politicians stop mangling in other countries affairs and put more emphasis on European countries the people will get along well and govern themselves peacefully

I'm in Haiti. And I'm haitian. Now I must say first that having à right ti décide is à still that majority of haitians dont have. Honestly it is disturbing to come to the dire realisation that majority of haitians dont have the power to décide. One minute they choose you the next minute they want à coup de ta on you. History has prove that.

The gangs seem too small to retain power should they find a way to seize it.

Sounds like you haven't done your research, as in read about history of Haiti to know how they got there.

@@PanamanianMan317 I didn't do any research, that's why I said seems; there's always someone willing to share who knows much more than I could easily gleen in the limited time I have available. Perhaps You would share?

@@zoo-xibbitjayne2081 alright. I will keep it simple. Just google what the Tonton Macoute were and how are they related to the present-day gangs. You will be shocked.

@@zoo-xibbitjayne2081 ok, I will keep it simple: search what were the Tonton Macoute. It was a paramilitary force created by Haiti's then dictator François "Papa Doc" Duvalier to protect his seat and enforce his will. There are many articles that talk about how the current gang situation is connected to the Tonton Macoute. You would also have to look for information about the reparations Haiti had to pay France for their independence as well as the coups and other events, one which led one of the presidents into abolishing the armed forces of the country.

@@PanamanianMan317 thanks, I'll check Wikipedia. I've some vague familiarity with Haiti's older history and archeology but not much recent.
