- Martin "Cuff Daddy" Thomas was a legendary soul artist of the 1970s. Born in Wichita, Kansas Martin was arrested at the young age of 14 for a string of robberies that he committed with his then girlfriend. After being released from prison, Martin gravitated toward soul music as an outlet to express himself as well as tell his life story. In 1977, he released his smash single "Bonnie and Clyde" loosely based on his life story.

I'm still waiting on the slept on artist Jerome "Lights Out" Camby. I'm sure you are waiting on the right time to release this song that gave inspiration to Royce Da 5'9" song "I Promise" in 2004, AITC. But for the rest of the uninitiated, Lights Out was a former boxer turned soul crooner in the 1940s. Born in 1919 he initially began boxing at the age of 16, but was really only good at getting knocked out, hence the nickname. He later turned to singing, formed a group and released the single "Let Me In the Game" in 1946. I'll let AIFC fill in the rest of the details on Camby's life, should he decide to tell it but I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that Royce flipped this song and made it his.
