Thanks for your tips Terry. Super helpful, looking at options for our orchard. Does your region have a pronounced wet and dry season? And is humidity always at above 80% ? Heard pollination time needs humidity, but too much water and the trees flush out and drop their fruit buds.
We have a dry season and humidity drops down to 30 here for a short time during the months of march , April , and some of may . It's important to plant the right variety in your region .Some varieties are more drought resistant than others . We find that monthong does best for this
@@TMDurianfarmer ahh wow, okay good to know monthong is so hardy. Yeh our area has 5 months of dry season, so we will need to irrigate. One good thing is we might be able to shut irrigation for 2 weeks and use the dry to induce flowering. Only concern is excessivelt low humidity during pollination.
@@AussiePharmer that's how we induce flowering here. We start to induce flowering in October .humidity starts to drop at the end of January and starts to go back up in may. What area are you in
@@TMDurianfarmer oh cool, thats reassuring to know we can mimic your success. Looking at a little known area of Northern Queensland in Australia. Its outside the main growing area, but they have challenges there like excessive rain that prevents pollination and reduces fruit quality during ripening. Nice informative video and super interesting! We have a durian farm in Buriram, Isaan province. 23 rai and 1150 trees, First planted in January 2021. Can you explain how you takeoff the 2 inch pipe from your main 3 inch backbone? I am surprised you are getting so much pressure off a 2 hp pump too. Our irrigation system was poorly installed before I got back to Thailand and we have struggled with it ever since.
I install a reducer on the 3 inch main 3 to 2 inch reducer from there I install a 2 inch t or 3 way to feed my 2 inch lines .if your system is not installed right you will get uneven pressure and water distribution . My 2 HP pump has a flow rate of 600 liters per min my sprinkler heads are rated at 3 to 6 liters per min I have 172 sprinkler heads on this new land when I water I use all the sprinkler heads
@@TMDurianfarmer Thanks for the reply :) Thats impressive watering rate off a 2 hp pump. We have two 5 hp pumps all running off solar plus battery storage and the water pressure is still crap, due to poor design plus installation. I think i need to pay you a visit to see how to do it right. Will find you on FB and try and contact you. Cheers again!

Hey Terry, on another of your great previous videos you described the irrigation system on the older part of the farm and you mentioned that you went from the 3 inch main down to a 1 1/2 line to feed the rows then 1/2 inch for the upstands for the sprinkler heads. In this video you are going from 3 inch main to 2 inch then to 1 1/2 inch to feed the rows. Can you tell me which system works the best for you?
I'm currently watering my young trees every day for 30 min .my trees with fruit I water every other day for 30 min .it's very hot and dry this year so we are using more water
@@TMDurianfarmer Yes and they grow well there. The key is to use proper plant variety and the ones grown from tissue-cultured materials, not the seed grown plants. Not only they are valued in Thailand but in the rest of Asia particularly Malaysia and Indonesia which have large Muslim populations.
