The fact that statistically there should be another life form in the universe does not mean they care for us, have solved all their problems, or anything of that sort... It literally just means life probably exists somewhere and we may never meet them. Simple.
Other life has no reason to be particularly intelligent as it comes to space travel, that's for sure. We just came to this level recently, and we have zero ability to travel to another planet. Life in Earth's nature has no "care for others" built-in...it's rather survival of the fittest here.

Doesn't sound like dogmatism to me...
There's no way to estimate the probability of something that only appears (based off the current evidence) to have happened once. And before anyone brings up the Drake equation, keep in mind that the most important variable (percent of planets that actually develop life) is still something we can only guess at.
Where? We have evidence of life here on Earth and nowhere else. It's possible that the natural formation of life is such an unlikely event that the probability is 1 (Earth)/All the planets in the observable universe. Is it likely? We don't know, because we only have this one example to work with.
This guy has a REALLY optimistic view on the image of the alien. I don't think many people think aliens are perfectly moral, have no problems, and care about us as humans. What aliens is the guy referring to?
Well in sci-fi movies it's not always the case, but for example movie The Day the Earth Stood Still can be an example or movies by Spielberg like ET or Near Encounters of 3rd Kind show this idea. In New Age community aliens are viewed as something helpful and beneficial. People try to contact them and meet them in the meditations, because they believe they will help them solve some existential questions. Some people experience meeting with aliens during psychedelic experience and they claim it is mostly positive and that they help them or explained them something important.
God confined them to the hideous hairless forms because they really really angered him bad they invented the saucers as physical interdimensional travel to travel like normal angels everything is not as it seems Jesus was right all along
Because one side speaks the truth and the other only wants to believe the lie the alien greys are demons without any doubt they were casted away from heaven that's why the ancient sumerians called them annunaki those who fled from the heavens
They gave humanity forbidden knowledge we were not supposed to have for millions of years only has it progressed our destruction only those loyal to Jesus are safe
There's a difference in believing in these "sci-fi" type aliens, and the idea of some type of life outside earth as proposed by science. I think Shermer is referring more to the former category in this clip. Interesting stuff.
Shermer is a joke that traded 1 religion for another. He just went from believing in Christianity to starting his own religion around the concept of "skepticism". Its good to be skeptical about things to a degree but thats not what shermer does he ignores certain things and bend facts in a way to fit his religion skepticism. Skepticism isnts a personality trait or a skill its literally just a tool to help us understand the world a little better how people like shermer could turn it into a religion and not see that is fuckin ironic.
All human like gods were aliens. Planted at birth spiritual. By our true creators who have ascended beyond our understanding. To help our world from the manipulation that’s spread all around it. As our world became more manipulated so have the gods born into human bodies, the air’s polluted, waters poisoned, foods poisoned, languages and understanding poisoned. Living ina fantasy world.
Interesting, that what he believed was basically that these beings of our religions were interdimensional extraterestrial entities. The being Aiwass as depicted by him oddly looks much like a typical 👽.
I’m a believer and I think he has a really great point here - undoubtedly this is true for SOME people. But not all - many believers feel the way they do for legtimate reasons - contemplating the size of the universe and unhindered progress/ufo sightings/accounts/ancient depictions. We should take onboard what he says and make sure we don’t believe anything and use critical thought but I don’t like it when someone comes along and discredits a whole group of people like this.
I've driven upon "3" UFOS back in the seventies. At first I put them out my mind bc friends said they were demons. Having had paranormal experiences before as a result of reading occult literature, I didn't want to deal with that again. I did eventually research, read everything about UFOS I could & then I started seeing more UFOS. All different kinds. Paranormal stuff started again. I even caught a picture of a sort of transparent entity. Looked like a little boy, fair skinned, no ears, bald, big blue eyes. Was going to share it on Facebook but decided that may attrack more entities. I think it was a demonic entity. I finally deleted it off my phone bc I didn't like the idea of a demon on my phone. I am a Believer in Jesus Christ as Savior from sin & I felt led to pray right before I saw those UFO ships. I believe my faith & trust In Jesus quite possibly saved my son & I from an abduction.
Most extraterrestrial beings do love us. Why? Because they vibrate at a higher frequency than us, the frequency of LOVE. They are of higher consciousness and they understand that in this Universe we are all ONE.

The last phrase says it all: " *We may be the only ones in the cosmos that are sentient beings, and if so, all the more reason we should care for our world and each other, because that would mean this is it.* "
+Vitor Madeira wow, really? this is it no matter if there are other sentient beings in the universe or not, or if we are alone or not, this is it because when you die that's it, your dead. It's nice to see that theist finally come to the same conclusion atheist came ages ago.
Even if sentience is extremely rare in an already high odds chance of any life, I’d put my life on it already having happened, existing now, or will happen in the future. It’s not a “feel good” reasoning that I feel this way at all, though I don’t doubt some peoples beliefs may use extraterrestrials as a substitute religion. I really wish he would’ve specified in what ways different beliefs in aliens are similar to religion; he seems to be painting with a very broad brush those aren’t autistically sticking to a neutral position when it seems, given how much we know is out there, the chances are probably much higher than we might’ve thought decades ago.
There is proof that we are being visited by alien life, get your heads out if the sand. Look at ufo interviews with astronauts gordon cooper and edgar mitchell here on UA-cam and they will inform you ood the et presence on earth. Also look up ex canadian secretary minister paul hellear
vitor madeira the law of large numbers, to even think we are the only sentient beings in the whole universe, is a belief so ridiculous, you would have to be religious to believe it.
I'm an atheist, and I have no problem at all on considering the possibility of existing alien life. Most probabilities would be on that side. BUT...! With so many problems to solve on this planet, such consideration would be valid but uttermost futile to keep on wasting time with it... Would there be alien life in the Universe? Most probably yes. Does that matters right now? Absolutely not. Now let's help sove this planet (and other people's) problems.
Michael Shermer, I have begun to think along the same lines as your thesis; a neighbour and good friend has developed a fixation or obsession that aliens do exist and have been arriving, moving among us for perhaps thousands of years. I will try to read your article. Thanks to you and anyone else involved in uploading your brief monologue.
Yes, I used to believe in God and in Jesus, but once I started studying the evidence of Him during the First Century. Then, I got quit alarmed, because there's not much supposed "Evidence" for the Son of Man, other than the Gospels that were written many decades later. Then, I read more and more, realizing that the same type of "Magic Men" stories were very abundantly accessible and prolific throughout the provinces during that time in the Middle East. Thus, my Faith started disappearing after that, because I realized it was all myth and legends.
Michael Shermer is a totalcondecending douchebag.... why we keep refering to him for an opinion shows how inept we are as a species... the man is wrong about everything and thinks that most of us are uneducated farm or hill people. he needs to stand down and realise that he is an idiot... and i would pay money to see his facial expression when the Pentgon released the information about these craft and their abilities as well as the release of the crash debris that was examined and a material called Nitinol was fabricated using nickel and titanium that is the closest material to the mysterious memory metal described by the witness's from roswell... Its all been validated and confirmed now... So he can suck on his weather balloon theory. Hope his magazine company goes bankrupt.
Um... I've always believed that it's highly unlikely that we are the only life in the universe, simply because it makes no sense that we would be. Either life evolved naturally through specific processes that more than likely are not a one time anomaly, or it was all created by some higher being. Whichever story you believe it's still very probable that there is other life somewhere out there. You really don't need exact science or numbers to figure that out, it's just common sense. And by the way, extra terrestrials existing doesn't necessarily mean that they're here or ever have been, you don't have to believe in UFOs or any of that to believe that alien species do exist.
You are blinded by deception they are real as ever and they are planning to return to convince us to worship them and board their mother ship once you do that the humans who are fooled will be nothing more than currency and torture fodder may the holy spirit enlighten you Jesus can protect you from this it sounds so cliche but it is truth I did not believe it either for a long time until it was revealed to me
I don't agree that it's quite as analogous as religion. There's no supernatural assumptions required for the existence of aliens. The development of life has been observed at least once, while the existence of any deities or supernatural entities in general has yet to be observed.
Extraterrestrial life doesn’t have to be complex like us, they can be in the form of microorganism. Also, the probability of extraterrestrial life is really high because the elements that make up life on earth are VERY VERY common in the universe... All that is needed is the right conditions and life will exist. The conditions on earth are not unlikely to come by, considering the vastness of the universe. So we can say that there is a very high chance that we are not alone in the universe.
As an indian believing in aliens is very tough just because of our culture which brainwashes us :/ but still I belive that those gods are nothing but aliens

Especially if you consider de Shardin's and Frank Tipler's ideas on the "Omega Point" or Ray Kurzweil's "6th epoch". You can also include Nick Bostrom's simulation argument which is already used by some christian/theist apologists as an argument for God's existence too.

The problem with his arguments is that they're based on the idea that people who believe there're other lifeforms out there also idealize them in the way sci-fi does. When you take the stats into account, you realize that is highly possible for alien beings to exist, it's not about believing, it's about reasoning.
Paranormal believers and UFO conspiracy theorists really are just modern religions. People, in general, aren't becoming more skeptical, they're just wanting less to do with "official" organized religions. But when it comes down to it, they use the same methods to try to convince people as modern people who are part of older religions. They ignore facts that don't fit into their narrative, present questionable things as evidence, and will not be convinced otherwise because when it comes right down to it they just WANT those things to be true too badly for any amount of evidence or logic to sway them.

This is a great post regardless of the many down votes. In fact, the down votes are just a result of one bending a perspective on to itself. Belief is the major factor of what he’s saying.
Belief is what makes us determined to prove things but faith is stronger than even that I know in faith that the aliens are demonic entity's I have researched this extensively I know it is true
IMO, Religion goes "BOTH" ways. 1.) There is the Spiritual aspect; giving people true meaning in life. Connecting to ones spirit, uniting with other people, God, Etc. 2.) There is the Unkown aspect; usually associated with the history long ago. Things we cannot explain such as ancient structures, flying objects in ancient scripts, angels that came down from the heavens, Etc. -I prefer to stay the middle man, and look at both sides. To say either way is the true side or believe? "That is someone I would never trust".

In case anyone didn't know, dude is a professional "skeptic." He runs a Skeptic magazine & is invested in the idea of being a skeptic. That said he brings up some good points. New Age notions of ET life, that non human intelligences are here as saviors to save humanity from ourselves is quite insane. Gotta keep at least 1 foot on the ground exploring such topics
I think you really should have made a distinction between aliens visiting earth and aliens existing. With how large the universe is its almost a given that there is life somewhere else as well as on earth, but that life is probably so far away we will never make contact.
I believe there’s extra terrestrial life and I think this man has good points, however I do think he makes some assumptions that aren’t necessarily true. I personally think there’s life in space purely because statistically it seems viable. I don’t necessarily think or believe that these life forms are intelligent or benevolent, I just think they must be there because the universe is enormous
That’s a good point but this is how I look at it. We have almost always documented historical events. Cave paintings where some of the first ways we expressed ourselves as we developed the ability to do so as we evolved. Many civilizations have documented wars and passed down oral traditions that speak of significant events. With that said, I believe the existence of religion and the holy books that accompany them, recorded significant events that took place. I just find it hard to believe that that all the texts and scrolls that were written we just made up. There had to be significant events happening in order for us as humans to record it. I just have my theories based on things I’ve read it all the religious books of the three major religions that make me question things.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
The discussion on psychedelics, specifically DMT, needs to be taken extremely seriously right now. It may hold the key that separates science from religion.
Scientists doing studies on psychedelics found that children brains work a lot like someone’s brain on psychedelics, being on shrooms made my have a reminiscing feeling of being a 8 year old again. All these people say kids see ghost. I’m pretty sure aliens visited me when I was a kid. This worlds not what it seems, it’s but a dream, it’s all an illusion.
Well considering we have top government and military officials that have encountered life from other planets, their craft and etc, we already know they are real. It wasnt in the form of a dream, or near death experience either. I think we can more definitively say there is more proof of life from other planets than life after death.
Except if you knew anything about basic physics you would realize that’s it’s physically impossible for any three dimensional living organism to travel to earth even from the nearest solar system, which completely rules out the “organism from another planet” theory

Personally, I believe that only on Earth is life as we know it. Life itself is a miracle that, based on probability theory, is almost impossible. I mean its origin and development. Only God can create everything out of nothing.
Interestingly enough, this idea occurred to me as well. On the other hand the universe is so vast and so variable there is quite a big chance there is life on other planets. Current advances in exoplanetary research suggest this very strongly. But it might be quite a different form of life as well... the possibilities are, as universe itself, infinite. And on the topic of God... if God created us and all the living beings on Earth, why wouldn't it created aliens. It certainly is in it's capabilities.

I personally believe that we have been visited by ETs in the past and in recent years. In any case, what would this do to religion? Nobody can ever again make the claim that the world/universe was created for Earth's men/women. I think some hard realities are eventually going to sink in to the population and the world will be better off.
The second that we make contact with extraterrestrials, all the religions of the world will have to reassess. Maybe they will convert to start saying that Jesus actually is an alien, and that this makes perfect sense. I certainly hope I am alive long enough to see our first extraterrestrial contact. He obviously thinks that he is cleverer than the one and only person who argues with no-one. It’s a numbers game. The probability of there being intelligent life is high due to there being billions of galaxies and hence planets. He says he was contacted by an alien who explained that all life on Earth was created scientifically by his civilization and their interactions with us through history created the religions. Ill respect everyones beliefs and feedback, but here are some facts about life in the universe. The Hubble telescope was pointed at the darkest point in the night sky for 8 days, a very risky and expensive move for Nasa. What they saw was multiple galaxies, full of hundreds of billions of stars. If you held a penny up to the night sky, this spot is as big as Lincolns eye. And that is just what the telescope could see. There is way way way way more beyond that. Essentially, there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on our planet, all with their own set of planets orbiting them, moons around those planets which could also harbor life, etc... Basically, it is absolutely ridiculous to say that out of all those stars, our star is the only one that has a planet with life orbiting it. Also, scientists recently discovered a rock that shows signs of life even before the first fossils of life appeared(like 3-4 billion years ago). The thing special about this is that in between these two timeframes, there is evidence that the Earth was bombarded with meteors, which likely would have killed everything. The 3 main theories is that somehow the life survived, the bacteria came from an asteroid which really is not too illogical, or three, life was created very quickly as conditions became good. 2 of these would show that there is either alien life out there, or if conditions are right for life to start, then it will very quickly start.
No it’s not just like a religious believe! There are some very convincing sightings and encounters. People investigate it, research it and come to the conclusion that it might be true.
Don't forget the Fermi paradox. You can argue: we exist so there must be life on other planets as well, but that only works up to a point. If interstellar travel is possible (if planets have enough resources to achieve it) and the probability of a planet developing intelligent life within 4 billion years was 1 in 100.000.000, earth would probably have been colonized before humans came along. Btw, he talks about "believing in aliens", that's a bit stronger than simply accepting the possibility.

It makes sense. We each possess an inherent desire to yearn for something that brings solace. Those who have already found comfort in Christianity are deeply fulfilled with their faith. However, individuals without Christian or any religious affiliations discover solace in their faith in extraterrestrial beings.
The government has known about this . As someone who lives in Florida. Christian / Catholic , Puerto Rican where they have airports for Extraterrestrials, family member in Nasa and media. I have a close family member who has a Spanish radio Christian family talk show she had one come and talk about that there would be no more water and of course Jesus coming soon. Of course days later someone listening called the Owner of the radio station to complain. I believe there are many who want to help us but the Satanist government won't let that happen. Of course there are bad ones too fallen angels. But just like humans are not all good. Jesus cristo is coming soon and is taking All of his children with him.❤️🔥
There is evidence for aliens; us. Namely we are proof that intelligent life, and life in general, can emerge in the universe. As for extraterrestrial life, even if we had a decent statistical theory, still the return is random: tossing a coin by itself guarantees no string of successes unless p=1
So if astrobiologists say ETs are out there anyway you feel the need to believe in them? Doesn't sound like dogmatism to me...
Despite the lack of evidence, the probability of extraterrestrial life is really high.
Adi the lack of evidence released by the government**** hint hint
There's no way to estimate the probability of something that only appears (based off the current evidence) to have happened once. And before anyone brings up the Drake equation, keep in mind that the most important variable (percent of planets that actually develop life) is still something we can only guess at.
Where? We have evidence of life here on Earth and nowhere else. It's possible that the natural formation of life is such an unlikely event that the probability is 1 (Earth)/All the planets in the observable universe. Is it likely? We don't know, because we only have this one example to work with.
Care to provide some? It's kind of unfair to drop a comment like that without providing some sources to back it up. I promise I'll keep an open mind.
Adi you are proving Shermer right by saying that you know the probability that aliens exist when you can’t possibly know it.

Aliens helped humans evolve by giving them technological advances like the pyramids
Or they are demons playing you all like a fiddle they are fallen reptilian angels they are going to deceive millions with this be aware

Shermers job is to not have a personal opinion but to be a skeptic by all means. He's literally made a career out of being a 'noper'.

Was thinking the same
Aliens are just demons in disguise
I’ve never heard anyone that believes in aliens say that they think the aliens also love us 😂😂😂
Most extraterrestrial beings do love us. Why? Because they vibrate at a higher frequency than us, the frequency of LOVE. They are of higher consciousness and they understand that in this Universe we are all ONE.

Anyone who still thinks we are alone in the universe is lacking of the knowledge of how immense the universe is.
So the size of the universe automatically equates that there has to be life?..ok

Couldn't agree more.
Why so many dislikes? Triggered religious people? This guy is actually a genius.

@@tyler8264 based on OUR KNOWN Physics, yes but all of our physics are theories.... they are not facts and they can be disproven at any time...... which means that if there is a more intelligent life out there, obviously they would have more advanced knowledge of physics and they certainly know how to get here quickly.

Billy Meier has simply written down thousands and thousands of pages, much of which is totally free to read on the internet for anyone who is interested to go and investigate and read for themselves so that they can fully learn for themselves what is really going on in the world and never ever again have to be fooled by the fools who think they know better than the one who TRULY KNOWS and can prove it and wrote it all down for us, the ordinary good people of this earth, to ALL to go and read and think about.
How are these aliens perfect nothing limited in physical can have perfect society like that but supernaturally assisted beings can do that tho the world must be awoken
i just feel like being friends with a alien
Then you are likely a reincarnated alien yourself 👽🛸✨💫
@@Fuzzled369
Or just friendly 🤷🏻♀️ it's way more likely than assuming it's a reincarnated alien just like that xD
@@aspergerart4635 it's not assuming when you are a reincarnation of an alien
@@Fuzzled369 I don't think it matters what you are (or what you believe you may be) you can't know what this person is xD
As long as that Alien is Benevolent.
It’s a numbers game. The probability of there being intelligent life is high due to there being billions of galaxies and hence planets. One doesn’t have to ‘believe’ in aliens or project religious motifs onto them. I agree that some individuals do but that’s not a strong argument to dismiss the probability of other intelligent life forms.
Have you guys heard of the Prophet Rael? He says he was contacted by an alien who explained that all life on Earth was created scientifically by his civilization and their interactions with us through history created the religions. Now we’re advanced enough to understand this they want us to build an embassy to welcome them. He wrote a book called “Intelligent Design - Message from the Designers” that explains it all.
If you look real good you can find (in clear) documentations that cover with how the bible is talking about aliens. One that comes off of the bat is "the burning bush" This is mind blowing when you see it.
Giles Skelton absolutely right it was all aliens totally 💯 %
@@thevulture5750 If an Alien came here to Earth and it made sure everyone knew it was malevolent, would it be the devil in disguise or not because the devil wouldn't come of as evil right off the bat now would he?
"Why Believing in Religion is Aliens in Disguise" Here I fixed the title.
" The devil's greatest trick was convincing humanity that he didn't exist."
Amen to that, Janine. The Bible is literally unfolding before our eyes now! 🙏💕✝️
you poor indoctrinated people...
Says we should suspend judgement while making several judgments on it of his own.
It’s not just a deep desire to know something is out there. A lot of us have witnessed paranormal or supernatural phenomena that has led us to ask questions that science isn’t answering. That’s why religion is so popular. To many It gives these occurrences meaning. Scientists and media should dive deeper into ESP and the idea of higher dimensional “beings”.
100%
I don´t think his intellectual framework is that solid to be honest.
You are Soo blind to think and believe that the gods of old are
imagination. I guess your remote control can work without batteries. Everything that moves have a power source . Learn more of your life . We all have a soul whether you or anyone else
This man has no idea what he’s talking about
Imo he is right about some alien believers but you can’t discount the whole phenomenon.
I agree with you also I don't think anybody said the aliens would have conquered world peace or whatever
Say that to the videos pentagon released in 2017
Or the fake plane crash into it?
Science is another religion .a secular religion ..and is based upon faith like every other religion .
I've seen Shermer go up against Graham Hancock on JRE, and it seemed to me that he had adopted skepticism as a religion.
Exactly.
To think aliens don’t exist is like taking a cup full of water from the ocean and saying there’s no fish in this cup so there must be no fish in the ocean 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
What a great analogy
@@derek2773 well the bible does not say anything about it
@@speh3068 And a Elmo book says nothing about God.
Is there anything that you do believe in, Mr. Shermer besides eating, sleeping and working?
He's a liberal.
Wow!! Thank you! That was a total waste of my time! I would have NEVER thought of this! Waste of damn time...
Stop wasting time and cherish it our lives are not guaranteed secure automatically only by messiah I have searched extensively and know this is Truth

Repent and believe in God. Jesus loves you. Receive him by faith.

Yay!! A vegan!! Hi!!! 😁😁
These types of videos is what pisses me off
Why?
Then why do u watch & get pissed off?
I wonder if it's still "religion" with everything happening recently. A lot of skeptics are about to have egg on their faces.
That pentagon shit is bs dude, I’m not saying aliens don’t exist but they definitely haven’t come to earth
Nahhh
Evidence....you was born 🙏
It makes sense. We each possess an inherent desire to yearn for something that brings solace. Those who have already found comfort in Christianity are deeply fulfilled with their faith. However, individuals without Christian or any religious affiliations discover solace in their faith in extraterrestrial beings.
The government has known about this . As someone who lives in Florida. Christian / Catholic , Puerto Rican where they have airports for Extraterrestrials, family member in Nasa and media. They are real . I used to think they are all bad but believe it or not there are ones who belive and worship Jesus cristo. They talk about hybrids the fallen angels in the bible , book of Enoch etc. There are many among us.
Jesus cristo is coming soon and is taking All of his children with him.❤️🔥
ET DOES love us!
We taste great with snozberries 😋
Lol the timing of this video, while the government releases evidence.
This is a taint on Big Think, please don't become TEDx
why
My desire is that, whoever they are, they come soon. The world has never been so full of evil and in need of the Judgement Day.
There is evidence for aliens; us. Namely we are proof that intelligent life, and life in general, can emerge in the universe. Belief in aliens, or the possibility of aliens, is a belief the emergence of life can simply happen again. And given all the apparent opportunities in the universe it seems likely we aren't alone.
He started off with a lie
We are becoming those aliens, or another way of saying that is, we are becoming gods, or another way of saying that is we are becoming the best versions of ourselves.
Self-loathing bistros, without JESUS CHRIST. This is one time I'll put all my eggs in one basket😁
If anyone want me to give up my being a Christian here's a list of things you have to prove to me.
1. Show me records or physical evidence of the big bang
2. Show me the process of evolution without using "evidence" that you pieced together without actually seeing it happen.
3. Explain why near death experiences are almost always described by the person as things that only "exist" in the Bible like hell, heaven, judgment etc even when the person who had almost died is atheist or of another religion.
This is the shit that makes the (if there is) real aliens/extra terrestials to not reveal themselves.
the 1.9k dislikes are the people throwing themselves through pews, rising hell and just being out right radical for no real reason.
