I do think they could implement virtual shifting in v5, but wahoo, prefer to leave v5 owners with an incentive to switch to v6. Of cause this is only me guessing. 😊
Wahoo have put themselves in a bit of a situation in making promised that they can't keep. It's not made v4/v5 exactly obsolete, they still work, but it's ended their useful lifespan and seriously dented their reseller value. It's also downgraded the number of Zwift Cog & later Zwift frame & v2 Cog that would be sold as upgrades.I can't see Zwift being particularly impressed. Now, what are Wahoo going to do about it? Trade-in for a v6 is not going to be easy. You're not exactly sending back a smartphone. The Kickr v6 is currently at a ~25% discount, at least in the UK, I presume for summer. This will have to stay at minimum if Wahoo are going to incentivise upgrade from v4/5. I'd add on as well at least a £100 discount for validated purchases of v4/5 Kickrs from authority stores. But of a pickle they've dropped themselves into. If I was JetBlack I'd be rubbing my hands right now.
It is a shame, but suspect there are connection and control protocol limitations Wahoo have decided they can't work with or around in the older trainers. Or it could be a cynical play to sell more current model trainers 🤷♂️ We'll never know. Indievelo supports virtual shifting on a large range of trainers so it's clearly a 'Zwift issue' rather than a broad hardware limitation.
Was going to get a Zwift bike frame for my V5.. I am not buying anything Wahoo after this and recommending no one else touch their stuff. We invest a huge amount of money into these setups and this feels like a slap in the face telling me to buy more because I wont support your previous top of the line generation so I can make you buy more.
It's very curious that the Core, which has been described as a scaled-down V3 with mechanical changes can do it, while the V4 and V5 supposedly can't. It takes a really naive mind to not be at least a little sceptical of the information from Wahoo.
I would hope that they made some changes to enable it and that they aren't talking crap about the V3/5 in the vain hope of selling a few more units. I can't imagine that many of us will rush out to spend £1000 or so to have virtual shifting vs just using our old "dumb" smart trainer that does everything else perfectly.

The steering force field indicators just show how poorly and inconsistently the "lanes" don't match the on-screen view of the road surface. You don't mention the VERY worst "feature" of the update - automated steering - which forces you back towards the centre of the lane for NO apparent reason after 10 seconds of no steering input - that's a JOKE.
Still you can not paint other bikes any color you like. Soon 10 years anniversary, and no such a basic feature, while decent company during this period can make full GTA 6 game which doesnt even have 20€/month subscription... Just squirrel ears and "u not lvl 100 yet with over one million xp" we get - a total disgrace for long term users.
At this point all I want is better graphics. Play gt7 or F1 on PS5, then ride on Zwift and cry. Even with your pc, which is clearer than mine, we are talking 2009 graphics at best.
Sorry my question was badly worded (and I’m a noob). I’m curious if my Kickr Core is a Version 4 or Version 5 as described in the video (or something else entirely)? Apologies for my ignorance.
If you purchased an expensive piece of kit on promises, then you deserve to pay even more to compensate the rest of us for being in the aura of your stupidity.
Why would there be a refund when the promise was made AFTER people bought the hardware? The promise was made just a couple months ago after V4/V5 were discontinued.
Interesting. The Victory isn’t available yet. The Kickr 5 issue wasn’t technically a lie, they mentioned it’d support something (that it was never sold with as supporting) then walked that back at a later date. If the Victory (when released) ends up being a potato, that’s going to be awkward for you.
Probably in the minority here but I couldn't care less about virtual shifting lol... I want to use and feel the real gears on my bike, not a clunky dummy cog with little keychain "shifter" 😄

Get a polar h10. Tickr is trash.
When can we have a RED tron bike?!
I was on my way to level 100, then they jumped the price 33% and I told Zwift, "Harder to get ahold of my money now, ain't it"?
If I spent as much time on Zwift as I do watching your videos I would be a much better cyclist 😂
❤
Many V5's were bought during COVID lockdown; to hear a 4year old machine is already redundant is very annoying.
the xp going up a big put off. I'm level 57 new riders have no chance levelling up now without years and unlimited time to ride.
My v2 rides on…
GTA V bike mod supports virtual shifting for any trainer, that means what Wahoo says is clear BS.
They rolled that back yesterday: forums.zwift.com/t/automatic-avatar-steering-update-july-2024/
@@gplama Great news, thanks for the link 🙂
Sadly I'm not really surprised a company like Wahoo has taken this long to determine they can't do it. Pathetic.
Force field is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Who asked for this, lol? It looks dumb and is not necessary at all.
Maybe price update😂
That's news from last month. TrainerRoad have already followed suit with a bump of their own too. Thankfully we're seeing hardware drop in price!
At this point all I want is better graphics. Play gt7 or F1 on PS5, then ride on Zwift and cry.
Even with your pc, which is clearer than mine, we are talking 2009 graphics at best.
boooooooooooooh Wahoo
Lama - please have a word so they finally allow us to hide HR!
Can anyone inform me what version a Wahoo Kickr Core actually qualifies as? Thanks in advance!
All Kickr Cores are the same.
Sorry my question was badly worded (and I’m a noob). I’m curious if my Kickr Core is a Version 4 or Version 5 as described in the video (or something else entirely)? Apologies for my ignorance.
Ahhh. No problems. The Kickr CORE is a different trainer than the V4 and V5 Kickrs.
Cheers thanks!
Rolling back that promise for the v5, I hope that that means a refund for those who purchased the hardware on the bad promise. v disappointed
Hahahahaha....a refund....hahaha
May I interest you in those rocks which are going to give you a 50% increase of your FTP in less than a week?
They are only $150 apiece!
Given the rate at which they push new stuff, I really think zwift personnel spend most of their working hours riding outside.
I sold all my wahoo gear after this lie about the v5. Switched to jet-black victory and Zwift ride
First😊
Probably in the minority here but I couldn't care less about virtual shifting lol... I want to use and feel the real gears on my bike, not a clunky dummy cog with little keychain "shifter" 😄
As a UA-camr surely it is your direct accountability to deal with Wahoo and get them to change their decision? I''m shocked that it's not been done already...oh, please can you also arrange for me to have the moon on a stick. Thanks.
Moon, stick, done! 😂 If I had three wishes to make things come true, they'd all be related to the Shimano power meter. 🧞♂️😉
Annoyed that the XP acceleration stops even when you are 50,000+XP over the Level 100.
