I just got mine. The interface app has been modified, for the better IMO, it's better than I expected. I can play it at very low volume, it sounds fantastic.
I've had one of these for a few months and I love it! It's loud enough to really piss off everyone else in the house, even if I'm in my music room with door shut. I love the fact that you don't have to buy virtual amps and pedals (as per Amplitube and similar) and I've found a fantastic variety of sounds. The app is great. I've got a Peavey Bandit, a couple of Zoom effects units, a little Marshall and this little amp is getting 90% of my home use. Love it!!!
Great review Shane. I’m half tempted to hack it and see how the amp goes through something like a really cheap little cabinet. The Joyo 8” cab looks interesting but I might be be able to build something VERY recycled and cheap that would be better. The amp seems to have sufficient balls.
I bought one two weeks ago. One of my best guitar gear purchases this year or even in a few years. Makes me grab the guitar more often than anything else. Not having to deal with cords makes it so convenient to play. Or maybe just one cable, if I decide to put on phones. However, there are a few things which would make this awesome practice amp even better and more useful. - I wish they added compressors someday. One Dyna Comp style one and perhaps one Boss and/or LA style one. Under the EFX tab would be good, a separate tab before the other EFX would be even better. - Then it would be great if the different styles shared the amps. So that it would be possible to store a BigMuff into Tweed Amp sound under overdrive or distortion... - Then it would be very very useful if it was possible to store more than four guitar patches within the app! Less important features which would be appreciated: - 7-band graphic EQ (or even a simple 3-band EQ after the amp+cab or within the IR tab) - Loading of external IRs I bet these are not impossible things for NUX to do and the hardware would actually be able to deal with it. Let‘s see what the future might bring. But even without those things, this is a hell of a useful piece of gear! :)
Yeah it’s nice to have the versatility...and it’s also meant to be used with acoustic guitar I think, but I’m not 100% sure. Although an acoustic guitar might be a little too loud for a small amp like this and kind of defeat the purpose lol.
I like the fact that it can be used for bass and acoustic guitar as well as electric. The drum machine is essential to help with timing. At $189 US it’s a good all around practice amp. Thanks for the thorough review!🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
I grabbed one of these just the other day. I adopted and totally agree with your approach, setup and save a few great tones, then forget the rest. It is a bit daunting to begin with but the App is fantastic and you can certainly get some nice sounds out of it. As a portable practice Amp it does the job nicely albeit a little over the top and fiddly feature wise. Thanks for the review Shane.
Thanks for the bass demo!! This is exactly what I’ve been needing. I’ve needed a bass amp to practice at home, since I play DI at church and at gigs I’ve never actually needed a bass amp... but this will change everything!
I got one recently and i really dig it! Only complaint i have is that there is no TUNER in the app !? with all the features stuffed into this little amp, you would think there would be a tuner, lol. hopefully this can be remedied with an app update.
I have the Mighty Plug, which is the same app and features, but without the speaker box! My Vox & Blackstar Amplugs have now been relegated to the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
Sounds good on clean at a sensible volume, small speakers can only handle so much before they break up, Thomann are listing at a £150 GBP, at this price i think i would prefer to spend a bit more on a bigger practice amp with a decent size speaker. Still ideal for bedroom practice.
Rocks on guitar and Funky on the bass! This review was so well done. I think this is a serious contender. Glad to hear the previous version held its own too. That one was popular but this one really intrigued my interest. With a free transmitter and excellent fx I don’t see where you can go wrong. Love the simplicity of the app. Really enjoy playing these digital amps with headphones for the full sound, but it’s very important that the speaker is versatile enough to handle clean and overdriven tones on higher volumes. Thanks for this one Shane!
I've got a Fender Mustang GTX 100 and the Fender App works absolutly perfect, so , I think that me as a customer can demand that an App belonging to a product I am gonna buy has to work, thats part of the deal.
Good review! It sounds really good for such a tiny amp. I don't really need another piece of kit, but then I don't need 13 guitars. But I somehow always seem to get more guitars, and less often, amps. I guess I could use a tiny little amp loaded with tons of features.
Great tones Shane I’m amazed at the clarity and breakup of this fairly budget amp. Just got an Orange cr60c myself and I’m a lefty myself. Would love to see you cover some orange amps on your channel keep representing. 😎🤘
I have the Mighty Light and have made recordings with it for backing tracks and it records decently! I'm sure this Upgrade model must also be a winner!
Great video as always Shane!🎸🔥 Somebody correct me if I’m wrong about differences between this and former Mighty Lite BT: - wireless guitar input - acoustic simulation included - IRs vs fixed tones - 2x2” speakers vs 1x3” - rechargeable battery vs 6AA batteries Want to grab one of these for home quiet practicing and can’t decide between them!! Keep Rochin’!!! 🎶🎸🎶
It’s sounds a little thin and seems to fall on its face when pushed. But I’m sure that is a trade off to keep the amp so small. But you have to love the size and convenience of this package. Plenty of amps and effect for such a small and inexpensive amp too. I just bought a Spark, but I’ll eventually pick one one of these as well. This would make a super fun little travel amp.
Thanks for the review and most importantly thanks for using microphones on the amp. Going direct is not useful for representing what the amp sounds like. As a bass player I was quite impressed with the sounds, considering how small the amp is. I will almost certainly get one.
Actually not technically a "bass port" in the center. It is a passive radiator. Functions similarly but allows for a slightly smaller cab than a port would.
I've tried the aml irl and the only thing that none of the reviews tell me about it is the amount of time it takes to fully charge the amp (0%-100%). Otherwise I love it and am planing to get one.
Hey Shane, just got this amp yesterday as a gift and I do like it. I have to disagree with one thing you said here, though: “Top Boost 30 should be avoided.” I agree it sounds terrible overdriven, but after playing around with it, it can be made to sound really nice for a clean tone. I know it’s still a bit of a fail as it’s supposed to be for the OD channel and sounds terrible that way, but did want to let folks know that the clean sound on it is really nice if you play around with it. Another thing I’ve noticed that people may want to be aware of: if you have active pickups (I have EMG t system on my tele I built) you have to position the wireless receiver so that it’s as far as possible from your electronics or it can interfere with the wireless signal. I was able to point mine out on the tele and that took care of it, but it even tells you in the manual that with some guitars with actives, you may need to buy an extension plug for it to get it far enough away from your electronics. Just a heads up to anyone thinking of getting this with active pickups. Anyways, this thing is a great value and I highly recommend it for practice/travel. Keep up the good work, Shane.
There really coming on with these small home practice amps, Im still happy with my Yamaha THR10C at present but I did buy a cheap Lekato branded rechargeable Wireless system recently off amazon, it was only £40 (UK) but its great, no lag and no more twisted cables to trip over. So for this amp to include a transmitter and a receiver is a real bargain.
Does it have a line out ...to hook it up to things like active speakers, ...or a recorder? Also, they have a special sound preset to make your hair grow past your shoulders in one week!!
this is the perfect example of: "lets add more modern features while we keep amp sims and IRs from 10 years ago" . I mean why is the preset at 13:30 even a thing ?
I bought one to use primarily with headphones but sent it back after a few days as I get better tones with bias fx2 mobile. The plexi model was the only amp I could get along with and the reverbs and tremolo were a bit meh.
would you prefer the mighty air over the mighty bt? I saw a review where the bt sounded much louder comparably and although it's just a practice amp it seems some of the level issues you got with the air aren't as noticeable on the bt? I really like the wireless capabilities of the air but for half the price and a better sound I'll put up with a wire...thoughts? Also great playing man, just stumbled to your page looking for reviews on these guys and loving your style
Unfortunately the app is crap! It just works on some android versions (e.g. got it running on 6 and 8) but not in others (e.g. on 10 it always asks to enable GPS, while this is already on). On some resolution, the first two tabs are so far shifted to the right, that they are unusable. I'll send it back for the blackstar fly 3.
I've got a little Vox VX 15 GT. That is really awesome! The Nux looks good , sounds good. But no matter how many amazing digital modeling amps , are around. Nothing , and I mean nothing. Will ever beat a real tube amp.
I mostly agree. And I'm way over 40. I think it's a good little amp, but I already have 4 amps that cover all the bases. Tube, battery powered, modeling; if I can some extra money I might get one. For it's small size it sounds great.
Sorry, but there are plenty of solid state amps which sound great and inspiring and far superior to many tube amps. Might be time to get your head out of your arse and see the sun shine.
I bought this at the start of the year and besides the Bluetooth being a bit flaky it’s really great.I use it everyday for work and love the recharging capability.Great amp! What do u think Shane?
Can you use the headphone jack or USB port for direct output? or how did you record this mini amp on this video you just used a microphone in front of the speakers? How many Effects can you have turn on?
Sounds pretty good for what you're getting but as you said, not all the settings are great. But I think the size is great - you could chuck it in a going away bag and hardly notice it. I'm definitely considering it. You can also use it to jam along to tracks. I gather they let you keep it Shane? Just for shit'n'giggles you should add a speaker out and hook it up to a 4x12. That would be funny!
Hi mate, it's a PRS SE Custom 24 - it's one of the first made in Korea models in Trampas Green. I ended up swapping the pickups, but I am actually considering swapping them back to stock later this year. The stock pickups are plenty nice.

I put a jack on the back of my katana mini amp so i could use it as is or plug into a 8ohm cab, And it sounds amazing and its quite loud for a little amp. Maybe you could do it to the NUX ? guessing it uses two 4ohm speakers? course if you do modify it, It will void all warranty. I have the katana 100 head and the katana mini into a speaker cab sounds every bit as good.
I'm looking for a battery-operated practice amp for the bedroom and this is the same price as the Yamaha thr5 while the Roland Micro Cube is a bit less. I really like that it's wireless but I'm torn.

It supposedly has up to 18hrs play time on battery. "A high-performance rechargeable battery is built into this amplifier, which can provide up to 18 hours of continuous playing time on a single charge."
Since there is no USB out to record to a computer interface or DAW can the line out for headphones work with an adapter? If you have headphones in does it mute the amp or is there volume control for both the amp and headphone out to balance for recording? I don't mind recording with microphones on the amp and that is not my main purpose for this amp but I do record on the go with my Ipad and a small interface for my portable setup which is what this would be.
The USB-C socket on the back lets you connect to a DAW. The app Settings page has a USB Audio Settings section which lets you select Normal, Dry or Reamp.
Does it come with a wireless adap[ter? Or is it just bluetooth so you can also use it to play music? I was interested in the Katana Air, until I saw that it's so expensive! So I'm assuming this isn't wireless for under $200?
It is not a first time when I can hear your playing very similar to Captain Lee Anderton :-) Both od you can play blues (which I don't like) on a way I like a lot!

how much time do you really get on the battery charge? Shame it doesn't have a AC input too so you will always have power.
I've enjoyed everything I've tried from NUX. this is a cool upgrade to their Mighty Lite BT

Love that it includes wireless that is rechargeable from the unit. Seems like a great choice for a travel amp where you won't be playing loud, anyway.
As Buddy Guy says "So funky I can smell it!"....nice!

Just came across this on another review doing a Spark.vs NUX shootout
And as I just ordered a spark 40 but it's not here yet
But anyways
It seems like the spark came out the loser according to the host
While I think this little thing looks pretty cool but is it really possible that it's a better sounding amp than the spark?
Is this amp good for bass?
Will this work outdoors in the woods? For example, around a campfire with my acoustic friends?
Absolutely. It’s all powered by rechargeable batteries.
How is the bass on this, afraid it will be lacking?
How many watts does 4 or 8 watts have in total output? Thanks and Like
How does it compare to the positive grid Spark?
Sorry but many of these tones just do not work for me - especially the distortion tones. Guys if you're considering one of these just go buy a Spark instead which I do own and I'm happy with.
Very cool!!
This might replace both my Fly 3 and ID Core for practice.

What of i connect the amp with another speakers it will gonna still have fuzzing sound when i turn the level up?
There is a new practice Bluetooth amp called " Flamma FA05". Does anybody has experience with it?
could it busk at a push ?
Does this need a power supply full time or is there a rechargeable battery in the amp? Not one place I've looked seems to specify
It supposedly has up to 18hrs play time on battery. "A high-performance rechargeable battery is built into this amplifier, which can provide up to 18 hours of continuous playing time on a single charge."
Ele tem saída de linha?
Does anyone know how to turn up Bluetooth volume?
I believe the Spark amp will blow this thing away.
The Spark cannot be battery powered. A 19v Dc portable supplier cost itself over 150 bucks.
What's the name of Jam track 2?
How well does this respond to Bass guitar? Can the speaker handle the low frequency's?
Stan Lee Watch the video!!!
I usually hate these, but this amp sounds pretty organic as far as tiny amps go!
Uh oh, my wallets about t get lighter!
So...?
What happened at the end?
Can I use that application without nux amplifier?
Nope, bc the apps bluetooth only recognizes nux speakers
Does anyone know it’s a wireless headphone can be paired with this device also?
You should be able to put a little bluetooth transmitter in the headphone jack and connect via that. They don't cost much and work great.
It is not a first time when I can hear your playing very similar to Captain Lee Anderton :-)
Both od you can play blues (which I don't like) on a way I like a lot!
