I think what Drew didn't get was that the "Bavarian Shrek" was a edit of Markus Söder, the minister president of Bavaria. And he did actually run for german chancellor in 2021 for the CDU/CSU fraction, though he did get beaten to that by the other candidate in his party, Armin Laschet. Anyway, the CSU lost so the german chancellor is neither Laschet or Söder but Olaf Scholz of the SPD. Btw Söder still is quite a meme among the german youth because he often campaigns for things the younger people in the majority would appreciate to have, and then proceeds to do the exact opposite. The CSU party themselves are quite conservative and pretty much any attempt to get the youth to vote for them is just incredibly cringe and always backfires. Theres a funny picture of Söder hugging a tree, I think it represents them quite well :)
