I completely agree about the flavor profiles of cigars being more similar to one another than with pipe tobacco. Cigars are like coffee. You can get a really wide variety of coffees and where they are from plats a big role in what flavors they have but coffee from Kenya and coffee from Colombia while different still have some basic flavors that are very similar. Pipe tobacco is like tea. There’s a huge variety of teas which change based upon when they’re harvested and how they process them. White tea tastes nearly nothing like black tea but is still tea.

Brilliant comparison. This explains why I enjoyed cigars but had my mind blown and fell in love with my pipes.

    You forgot one - storage.
Pipe tobacco is way easier to store than cigars. Cigars need the perfect humidity and controlled temperature in order to be stored without drying out or developing mold. Also, if you buy cigars online and have them shipped, they need at least 2 weeks in a humidor acclimate to your location. Pipe tobacco on the other hand can be stored in the tins they come in or in a Masson jar with a lot more resilance to changing temperatures. They can also be smoked right away if you had the tobacco shipped, with little to no prep work.

Much better tasting tobaccos with pipe tobacco than cigars. I love twist tobaccos and cigar blend pipe tobaccos like key largo etc. There’s way more variety in flavor choices with pipe tobacco and unlike cigars most pipe tobaccos don’t get ashy tasting as you smoke. Much cleaner for sure. I see tampering etc as a relaxing ritual and love collecting pipes but definitely prefer meerschaums with a traditional briar pipe connection and corn cobs over briar for sure

I quit smoking cigars for several reasons.. Cigars cost way more, take much longer to smoke, and usually are stronger (the ones I liked anyways).. I still smoke one every now and then but 99% of the time I prefer to have a pipe in my hand

New member of the group and enjoying it. I go back and forth between pipes and cigars. Usually start my way back to pipes in the cooler months.

You nailed it, brother. And I agree, that Punch Diablo is an absolutely fantastic stick.

I'm an avid cigar smoker. I'd like to venture into pipes. My grandpop smoked pipes. Loved the scent.

I'd add another one, which kinda was mentioned briefly, but not as a separate point.
I look at cigars more from a "consumable" or "disposable" point of view, in a sense that you can like certain cigar varieties or "models", but you don't feel attached to a specific exemplar. Talking about pipes, they're valuable regardless of the tobacco you put into them. You can have several stories or good memories with the same pipe, even though you might've smoked different tobaccos in it at that particular moment. Plus you have to factor in the maintenance and cleaning routine (which is a relaxing procedure on it's own, at least for me) that also helps you create a bond and a sense of value for a certain pipe. So, to sum it up: pipe vs cigar - an artifact vs a disposable

You got em all I think.
    1. Flavor profiles
    2. Rest & return
    3. Cost efficiency, you can get an artisan pipe for the cost of a box of most Padróns
    4. Room note, I find more people like my pipes than my cigars
    5. Presentation, cigar boxes vs tin art 🤷‍♂️

Room note is a big one I forgot to mention. I've had the same experience. People tend to either say positive things or nothing at all about pipes, but the room not of cigars is almost universally negatively received by anyone not smoking.

I am of more …discriminating taste …so I prefer pipe smoking as opposed to cigars . The room note is nicer with pipe smoking so I don’t get complaints and the taste is better for me. I’ve seemed to found my lane with pipe smoking.

i used to only smoke cigars, but i randomly decided to try a pipe one day and i swear i am about to just quit cigars for pipes, cigars are okay but i found the experence with them irritating, for one thing a pack of the same cigars is sometimes very random with the flavors, one cigar is awesome, and another one is not, also cigars randomly get me feeling green, or nauseated and a pipe never ever does, even if i wake up on a empty stomach and smoke my pipe, plus on top of that the flavors you can buy in pipe tobacco are so vast and varied you can switch it up at any time, and finally the cost is cheaper for tobacco, the initial cost of the pipe can be a lot more but pipe last your whole life and the pipe tobaccos are much cheaper, also with a cigar if you have to stop smoking it for whatever reason it's a ruined cigar , you almost never can relight a cigar and have it not taste terrible, but i re light a pipe all the time, i can start it, stop after 20 mins cuz something comes up and then relight it and finish my pipe and it's totally fine. also i have found that women often do not mind the smell of a pipe but most of them hate the smell of a cigar so all in all, i find pipes just better. i still smoke a cigar with my friends but mostly im a pipe smoker now. i am going to buy my first meerschaum in a few days and i cannot wait to try it, currently i have a corn cob pipe that smokes really well, and i have a i think it's rosewood pipe i havnt smoked yet because it came in a pipe kit i bought on amazon so i dunno if it'll be any good, probably not it was 30$ for a pipe, a leather pouch that can hold two pipes and some tobacco, and it had pipe tools, i figured since it has a pipe in it i'd just get this kit, even if the pipe sucks it's still only 30 bucks for filters, a carry pouch and tools.

Might sound funny but I don't like smoke in my face. I lean to cigars because you draw, move the cigar away and then blow the smoke away. Curious to try a churchwarden for that reason.

For as much of my life as I spend in this van I really ought to treat it nicer 😂 Seems like no sooner do I clean it out than it's full of bullshit again.
