Without Luisa their is no Martin. They are very different in upbringing, personality, and in regards to socializing, but they are actually very similar in their orientation to help others, and in their need to feel secure, and in sharing some of the same values. They are truly two sides of the same being, each floundering when they are without each other. A comedy would have ended fairly quickly with an anti social physician. Louisa transformed Martin and provided a new and deeper context for him. Which is what lovers actually do, or at least should do, for each other. The screen writers and producers were smart enough to figure that all out. But what Caroline was expected to do as Louisa and what she actually accomplished was absolute perfection. She used her beauty, femininity, personality, character, and acting skills in a way that few others could do to make her on screen relationship and the show appear real. She is actually why the show works. This video captured that. I’ve been married for 42 years. In my humble opinion we don’t loose ourselves in real love, we become something better.
suggestion to sendibo: put the same imagery to Lightfoot's "Anything for Love" at about 2:00, there is the sad bridge in the song and it matches perfectly with the Doc's departure followed nicely by the birth and Louisa's 'I want him here.' The song lyrics sort of express what Doc 'needed' to learn to do. Then at the end, about 3:30 the music ends at Louisas kiss while on the bike. Right on time.
