Alagna and Vaduva are utterly convincing as Mimi and Rodolfo! MAGNIFICENT!

They are both amazing here. Nice to hear the high C at the end.

I love Vaduva, she's so expressive. She was marvellous as Juliette with Alagna in the Covent Garden production of Romeo et Juliette in the 1990's. It was televised by the BBC at the time, so somebody might have a clip from it.

So glad to see this comment. Just listened to Bocelli sing the high C and thought "He got that wrong." Then I listened to Pavarotti, Bjorling, Gigli, and Alagna and ALL sang it with the higher ending. But not Caruso and I thought his was the MOST beautiful because it harmonized. A shame they all went for theatrical instead of beautiful at some point (Gigli?). Thanks for clarifying Puccini's credit for beauty. Should surprise no one.

very much enjoyed ms Vaduva...a wonderfull coy performance. the woman is supposed to be of a shy disposition and of fragile health and is so often sung by melodramatic overweight sopranos whose vibrato could take out radar! very nicely done - simple and effective - very touching - as it meant to be

I think those forced things are not by lack of technique but because Rodolfo is a heavy rol for him... but he sung it very well... I think is on his voice limits.

Wurd, Robert. Besides everyone knows that Tenors invariably suffer from Diva Envy- the poor things always have one toe in the glass slipper.

MIMI (Ah, tu sol comandi, amor!) Fremon nell'anima dolcezze estreme, ecc Nel baccio freme amor! (oh come dolci scendono le sue lusinghe al cor...Tu sol comandi, amor!) No, per pieta! Sei mia! V'aspettan gli amici... Gia mi mandi via? Vorrei dir...ma non osso, Di. Se venissi con voi? Che? Mimi! Sarebbe cosi dolce restar qui. C'e freddo fuori.v Vi staro vicina! E al ritorno? Curioso! Dammi il braccio, o mia piccina... Obbedisco, signor! Che m'ami...di'...lo t'amo.

lol yeah how can you have a voice like alagna without studying.

  • @ShawDAMAN

I'm sure he studied, but his voice does sound a bit forced compared to greats like lanza, pavarotti

Lanza! Please, Lanza is a good tenor, buit, like also Bocelli, is NOT a true opera singer!
Alagna is a very good singer and a wonderful Rodolfo. Although others tenors, like Pavarotti or Kraus, are better as Rodolfo.

You insert this after every version of this aria. YOU ARE SERIOUSLY BORING!! Yes, Puccini wrote an E but who cares. Audiences demand tenors sing high Cs and Puccinin loved the tenor voice and I am confident he doesn't care wherever he is.
Suck it up princess and enjoy the singing.

Alagna is a good actor... but he never studied singing...so you hear those forced things.
