They kinda hinted this all season, Reine was suspiciously getting a bit more screentime. And they had that whole conversation of "her past love".
And she never sleeps!

Whenever any character reference the origin spirit, the screen always pinned it to reine
It was in season 3 when Shido ent back in time the way phantom held his chin made Shido think it was familiar cuz reine did it
It was a little obvious cuz the fist eartquake was 30 years ago and Reine hasn't slept since then
The funny part is I called this reveal a while back as a joke because I thought about how hilarious it would be if the most lethargic looking person would be the phantom since the phantom acted so cheery and had lots of energy when shido first encountered her
You may notice that Reine throughout the story has always been so conveniently helpful when it came to information. Also going back to season 1 ep 1, where Shido meets Reine for the first time. Also if you watched the movie, it was also very much on the nose with the clues.
@@NotASuspicousPerson I actually realized that Takamiya Mio had similar-ish looking bust as Reine does, which is where I realized it, since they zoomed on Reine's bust an episode or 2 before Takamiya Mio reveal

the reason reine looks like mio is simple, SPOILERS! reine's body is cloned from mio but her soul is mio's angel "ain soph aur"
Dude I just finished watching season IV and it was the biggest plot twist of my life and now there is episodes dedicated to Kurimi this is sad but exciting at the some time like I can’t get season X or season 6 yet like I really want to know more Who known it only takes me three days to finsh 4 seasons just how I finshed high school dxd in 5 days wow.
Normally, Kurumi is always a step ahead from the heroes. ALWAYS ! The fact that she was genuinely unaware of Reine being Phantom and genuinely felt betrayed at that moment proves that even she can be outsmarted and more or less cares for the good guys. Also, it shows that she genuinely trusted her beforehand (seriously she called her "miss" and showed a genuine moment of weakness, something wich she rarely does).
You said genuine/genuinely four times, bro. Come on, was it necessary?

And the best thing about that is not only that kurumi didn't thought she was mio all along....but also, when she says "yes, it's all falling in to place" It can be easly be sensed how her rage is reboilling that her enemy was there all along watching
Plus, taking Phantom into her shadow gets her killed later when Phantom comes back out.
1:17 kurumi's face of pure shock said it all, the typical "it's always the quite ones in the end" trope in stories, i love it

The thing is this was hinted since S1 Episode 1 as she is the first to appear in front of Shido when he wakes right after she was talking in her phantom voice to him when Shido was taken into the Fraxinus medical bay the first time.

April 2024, the s5 is coming
While this reveal is amazing, the ost in 1:28 is top-tier. It is a theme perfect to show that you are dealing with someone way beyond you, a near god-like entity. And the thing is that exactly what is happening.
Next season will be awesome!
Reine did say some stuff that kinda hinted at things throughout the seasons... Paying enough attention to detail, you could have seen this coming, even w/o knowing about the LN.
Plus, back in season 1, she did mention something about "feeling like she hasn't slept for 30 years".
She said that in the LN, not in the anime
Plus she's always been calling him "Shin"
aside from the LIL things. THAT remark "suddenly" seem to crystalize a VERY REAL Possibility.

So the battle arc with Mio is only just the beginning, next season will not be like the previous seasons. Extremely sad and depressing especially if Season 5 pretty much covers the remaining volumes and maybe even the “Beast” arc.

For some reason, I knew that Reine was more than what she seemed. Always calling Shido “Shin”. I didn’t know why till I went and looked up the wiki. And now…..I know my hunch was right on the money.

Even though I knew this reveal was coming ahead of time. I didn't expect it in the season finale for this one, so it came as quite a surprise when they actually did the reveal
To all anime onlys, remember what Isaac said at the end of S2: "I know nothing about Itsuka Shido, but I know everything about Takamiya Shido"
And the authors certainly forced him to say the name wrong, not because he would, but because if he said the real name, a certain someone who's calling another someone a certain way, would be spoiled completely from way back in S2

That's because the Reine they knew is there. The Reine that appeared in front of Kurumi is actually Mio in disguise.
@@ky_toki5259 In a way, yes. Both Phantom and Reine are one and the same, though they are, at the same time, split parts of the Spirit of Origin. That's why Reine appears at the Fraxinus later on, even though in this scene it appears like she was swallowed by Kurumi. Because Kurumi was talking with Mio, not with the "real" Reine.

I think it might be Mio since both of them share similar appearances. Also I wouldn’t put it past Mio to have shapeshifting as an ability lol

Reine is a clone of sorts of Mio, though it's a bit more complicated than that. I suppose a more accurate description would be that of the holy trinity from the bible.

Yep, DAL is still going strong.
Their was a 5 year hiatus from season two and three. So it lost popularity. It also didn’t help that their was a 3 year gap from season three and four because of covid. Season three also had poor quality animation which was another turn off.
