For anyone else struggling with this: you may need to change your display settings. Go to the picture of the monitor at the bottom of the screen, go into "Visual Style" and select "shaded with visible edges"
I think it's click, hold and drag to create a selection box, but it matters which side you drag to. If you start at the left and drag right, something has to be fully contained in the box to be selected. If you drag right to left, something only has to be partially in the box. That's that this guy does.

It's called the shell command, under the modify drop-down menu. You select a body, then (optionally) select what face you want to be the opening. The body is "hollowed out"

You mean when he's making the vertical vase? That's an automatic feature in the sculpt environment. Not so in the default environment, though.

Well this wasn’t helpful. Resolution is terrible, can’t read any of the commands. Even if I could, was so fast, couldn’t tell what was selected
