Another great chapter! My understanding increases daily thanks to these videos. You have deepened my testimony more than any other thing before in my 55 years! I can't thank you enough for all your hard work and effort. It is so appreciated.
I LOVE your Long lessons and their depth! I listen and re-listen. I read the CFM lesson, follow along in the scriptures, take notes and journal insights I receive! I love your stories. I love the setting of your lessons. Your comment that when you sit to teach us, you feel like you're "on holy ground." I feel like I'm sitting across the desk from you, or in your classroom w/ you looking at us to teach us. I feel your reverence & love for scripture, even as thoroughly i attention to detail as in a white shirt and tie. It has increased my testimony, and my own love and desire to grow my relationship w/ my Savior and deeping my own knowledge. Thank you, Bro. Halverson!
I was so touched by your way of teaching the application of how to influence those who have decided to be on a different path. By following the example of Alma and even asking for success I can come from a place of conviction to those questioning without imposing my desire to "change" their opinions. To be taught so beautifully to pray for all the blessings Alma desired and receive the Gift of the Spirit to cover them all hit my heart so deeply. I have avoided your lessons because of the length but now wouldn't want them ANY shorter. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and gift of words in this way!
Haha! I know what you mean about the length being a bit daunting! I keep trying to shorten things but can't seem to find the heart to cut things down. I'm sure I'll have to in some of the longer sections. But thank you for your kind words. I'm grateful the lesson was a blessing to you.
Listening to 'Unshaken has increased my understanding of how the experiences of the people of the Book of Mormon so closely parallel our day and how much we can learn about how to avoid the pitfalls they fell into and prepare ourselves to be of more and better service to other... and now I will have to deconstruct that tower I have been building...bummer. :)
I have gained somuch more understanding of these scriptures then I ever have before. Thank you for your words. My heart is filled with joy and better understanding
Love Alma's prayer for a blessing on the dream team...power and wisdom... Alma clapped his hands. And the Lord provided for them and gave them strength. Because Alma prayed in faith. I love Alma and his brethren.
"The Dream Team"--I love that! Definitely a powerful group of disciples--people who had been changed by Christ, and could therefore teach out of their own changed hearts.
I know I have never understood this seemingly simple chapter (Alma 31) the way i understand it now. Incredible insights. What a blessing. I will pray with faith like Alma did that your videos continue well into the future.
Thank you for that encouragement! I don't write everything out (just bullet points to jog my memory), so I don't have any transcripts to post :( But perhaps I can find a way to post the lesson outlines at least, which would be better than nothing. Thanks again!
I love the analogy of the of the threadbare string breaking causing one to leave what they once believed. It is so important that we keep ourselves close to the gospel. Being out on the outside edge can become dangerous for our soles.
“God can take a problematic past and consecrate it to the building up of his kingdom“ that statement hit me like a 2x4 to the head. So much so, that I had to copy it down and leave a comment, which I never do. Thank you.
Yes! Highlights I found meaningful: "Beware of a Christianity without a Christ" - excellent. Un-coupled virtues list! Borderland and borderline membership. Compartmentalization. Culture vs covenant! Beauty from ashes alchemy. Joseph's prayer. Answer to Alma's petition and courage with the Holy Spirit fully armed. Thanks. '
I had the exact same thoughts about himni! So wonderful to get another piece of their stories to get to know them just a little bit better :) Thanks for your insights :)
At 1:02:30 you say: having explained to God what He already knew... I think of it more as Alma clarifying to God what Alma understand are the problems of the Zoramites. He also clarifies his understanding to the Lord what he sees the needs of the missionaries will be. In other words, 'This is my understanding of what is going on and so these are the things we will surely need. Please help.'
I spent 3 years in the south pacific country of Tonga. The methodist ministers there still pray using shouting. They are used to speaking with no microphones to large congregations. I wonder if that is how the yelling while praying tradition started, and then used for small groups too. It was quite starting to me the first time I saw it.
In early America, that shouting tradition was there too, and like you said, it was essential when preachers had to address huge groups in the open air. There's a great part in the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin when he tries to estimate the size of a group of people a particular minister could address. Thank heavens for microphones these days!
Is it possible to post this information in written form? When I click on "open transcript" one is not available. A searchable pdf would allow us to quickly re-locate ideas and quotes. For example, I have searched several times to locate your list of contraries, such as unity and diversity. However, scrolling through the video, I have not been able to identify them. I felt this section of the video was extra-ordinarily valuable.
That's a great thought. Unfortunately, I don't write everything out (just bullet points to jog my memory), so I don't have a full transcript. If I get around to creating an associated website, I could post the lesson outlines there, which would help. I'm sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime!
Correct. That's when COVID-19 shut down face-to-face teaching and I moved things online. I'd love to go back some time and do videos for 1 and 2 Nephi, but time is a rare commodity! Thanks for watching!
@@rutht2023 I would love to! It's just a matter of finding time. I'm barely keeping up as it is! I'm still trying to figure out how to speed up the process. Thanks for your encouragement though! I appreciate it!
Thank You. Great lessons.
You are welcome!

Haha! I think we've all got some deconstruction to do :) Thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad to hear that! The scriptures are such a treasure trove. I'm glad we get to do some "mining" together :)
Am so enjoying your lessons and learning so much more each time. Thankyou for the time and effort you put in to bring these to us.
You are so welcome! Thanks for letting me be a part of your scripture study!
Thank you for guiding us through the scriptures. New thoughts and ideas always come!
Glad to hear it! The scriptures never cease to amaze me with the insights they're willing to plant in us.

I'm so glad it helped this chapter make sense!
so much to learn. The straightforward and in everyday language makes it easier. Some much of it fits me and gives a glimmer of where I should be.
My husband expressed a transcript would be wonderful.
Thank you for that encouragement! I don't write everything out (just bullet points to jog my memory), so I don't have any transcripts to post :( But perhaps I can find a way to post the lesson outlines at least, which would be better than nothing. Thanks again!
I have learned so much and gained a greater desire to read the Scriptures. You have helped me understand and they have come to life.
Good to hear it! I'm grateful we have such incredible books of scripture to learn from. Thanks for letting me be a part of your scripture study!
I love the analogy of the of the threadbare string breaking causing one to leave what they once believed. It is so important that we keep ourselves close to the gospel. Being out on the outside edge can become dangerous for our soles.
Amen! It's sad to see it happening around us, especially when there are so many sources of strength available!
“God can take a problematic past and consecrate it to the building up of his kingdom“ that statement hit me like a 2x4 to the head. So much so, that I had to copy it down and leave a comment, which I never do. Thank you.
Thanks for chiming in, my friend! I'm glad that truth hit you the way it did. It definitely applies to each of us!
This was WONDERFUL. I learned so much. Thank you.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for letting me be a part of your scripture study!
Thank you so much, I must read Alma prayers over, over again to apply it to our daily life with humility and love👏😍
Me too! Every time I turn to the scriptures, their relevance amazes me!
Thank you, another wonderful lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!

I love the way you identify the principles you found most helpful. An eager student is a teacher's dream come true!
I had the exact same thoughts about himni! So wonderful to get another piece of their stories to get to know them just a little bit better :) Thanks for your insights :)
No doubt! I sure wish we had more on all of them!

Beautiful description of what's going on! I really like your take on that. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve benefitted so much from these lessons. Are they going to continue? I couldn’t find anything about future videos
I'm so glad they've been helpful! As of now, the plan is to keep teaching online, so the videos will continue. Thanks for watching!
I grew up in the long beach 1st ward In the long beach stake. We moved to price utah in 1973 after I graduated from polly high.
I was born around there !
Long Beach is a beautiful place! I grew up on the north side of LA county--in Valencia. I'm jealous that you were closer to the beach :)
I’ve lived in both Utah and in the Bible Belt and I’m much happier where we are now . Works for me personally 😂
There are definitely blessings and challenges no matter where we live!

thanks for the awesome podcast..
but have you left Hong Kong yet
Glad you're enjoying it!
Brother you are a great preacher but why you dont close your speech in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ?
I have searched for your previous videos and it looks like you don’t have any before Jacob. Is this right?
Correct. That's when COVID-19 shut down face-to-face teaching and I moved things online. I'd love to go back some time and do videos for 1 and 2 Nephi, but time is a rare commodity! Thanks for watching!
Please do make some videos for 1 and 2 Nephi. I would love to hear your lessons on those chapters.

O I see you love 'the chosen ', isn't it great?!.
I noticed that picture too! :)
I love it! As I keep telling my kids, "This is the reason TV was invented" :) Can't wait for additional seasons!
