    I've been considering getting a Velocity for years, but every time I'm almost ready to pull the trigger, I go flying again in my old V-tail Bonanza and decide I'm still in love with it. The Velocity is a great airplane though and if I ever upgrade, it will be at or near the top of my list.

    I live in the next town over. I took my sons to the facility, everyone was very nice and we even got a guided golf cart tour of the assembly area as well as various completed birds in the hangar. We even got to climb in and out of several of them. My kids were pretty jazzed, dad was drooling too...

    Those wire looms look like stuff I used to see in aerospace. Very nice and clean. Building a Long EZ one of the really enjoyable parts was hot wiring cores. I'm a little surprised people don't want to do this. We genned up a hot wire supply that maintained constant average temperature and it worked really well. Great tour, beautiful aircraft.

    • @ExperimentalAircraftChannel
      @ExperimentalAircraftChannel  3 роки тому +9

      Sure. We actually went into three(3) oscillations and none of them were "dramatic" and in fact a very tall "wave" if you will within the oscillation spectrum. But we did "float" (zero gravity) for a significant amount of time and then loaded into a very positive g-force climbing the "wave" and then repeat. Then... diving the beach with a few g-pull turns. Honestly... I just haven't flown in a while and haven't accustomed my "inner ears" to that sort of "abuse" haha! I need to fly more! Thanks for watching and supporting here! At one point he demonstrated how much the rudder can lower a wing. I've done many, many barrel rolls using rudder alone with no help from the ailerons in my Long EZ. They take about twice as long as when using aileron and rudder which is about 4 seconds, a pretty leisurely roll rate. You start the "rudder roll" about 60 degrees nose up and finish 60 degrees nose down.

If it were 30ft my hesitation would be non existent, @ 25ft my concerns would still be on the radar but tolerable but with a 20ft I would be highly motivated to modify it until satisfied and that canard would be reshaped to suit the overall look similar to the SR-71 canard that didn't go into production. The Rutan Long E-Z or the Cozy/side by side seating/based on the Rutan Verieze/Long E-Z design, possibly one of Revelaero's designs, as well as a Velocity 4-place, will be used as test bed aircraft.
    Tested will be a single and twin power-plant configuration (all electric twin and diesel/Jet-A hybrid on the Velocity aircraft).
    Twin configurations will be mounted much like the Honda Jet's power-plants.
    Goal: to fly faster, farther in a more quiet and comfortable manner than any other electric airplane using current battery technology.

      hmm would love to hear your reasoning behind this?? if its expiremental we can keep updating as new things come out or better ideas arise. certified world your'e stuck with what you get.

      @@rileyswing9731 Yeah, but the certified world has a few more requirements as well as FAA tracking for faulty equipment that needs to be repaired. I personally would rather have less new tech and the removal of the experimental label. It's not much peace of mind, but it's enough that it helps you worry less about the ability to stay in the sky.

    Redesign and blend the winglets to get rid of drag at the wing to winglet joint and I bet they gain 8-10knts.
    Look at the evolution of the Gulfstream winglets from the G3 to the G650, radius that joint and have less drag.

      No no... not in ground effect at all actually. Too high for that. We were around 500. :-)

    Did I hear him correctly that it has a pressurized cabin?

    • @ExperimentalAircraftChannel
      @ExperimentalAircraftChannel  3 роки тому +3

      For clarity... the cabin is NOT actually pressurized. However... they do use a similar system found in pressurized cabin for sealing their doors in flight (or maybe that is an option). Basically there is a weatherstrip seal around the doors that gets pumped with air to provide a tight seal around the doors. Thanks for watching and catching all the details! :-)

      @@JohnRobertson22 I think more so the wind noise around the doors. It is a 200mph+ aircraft... so I am sure they are doing everything possible to keep it clean/quiet.
