  • (From September 19, 2021) In this inaugural episode of the Troutbitten podcast, my friends Bill, Austin, Trevor and Josh join me to discuss how fly fishing for wild trout creates a life on the water.
We consider what it means to fish hard, how hope is the strongest trait of a successful angler, why everything works sometimes, and how fly fishers, all too often, are a little much.
We also talk about the tenets of Troutbitten, or the shared interests and characteristics about fly fishing that bring us together and keep us excited about trout fishing for a lifetime.
In 2014, Troutbitten.com started with fishing stories and tips. And from the beginning, the tactics articles have leaned toward the advanced angler without neglecting the beginner. Now over 1200 articles deep, this Troutbitten has become a huge resource for trout anglers on a fly rod - and always with the goal to educate and entertain.
The addition of the podcast platform offers a novel way to reach anglers where they are - in the car, at the tying desk, at the gym or cooking dinner.

Thanks, man. This needed to happen for a while now. Just takes work behind the scenes to upload 110 podcasts over the next few months. And I agree, if YT is where people want to listen, then here it is. Cheers.

@@Troutbitten thanks. This is kind of a strange ask, but I’ve always been interested in the best ways to fish alongside your dog. I know you don’t do info podcasts, but it would be interesting.

Great article on your 4 legged fishing buddy. It’s relatable to everyone who enjoys time spent with a dog. I’m on season 1 episode 4. Thanks again for all you do. Gotta get some merch.

Questions: 1. Why do you sound so Irish? 2. Why do you promote a sport and past time that diminishes with more use? 3. Do you financially benefit from the “use” of this industry?

      Strange questions, but I'll answer.
Why Irish? Don't know, but thanks for listening. Maybe it's a mix of Pittsburgh, central PA, and Charlotte. Why does anyone sound the way they do?
"Why do you promote a sport and past time that diminishes with more use?"
Ah, well I don't agree with your premise. Catch and release fishing does not diminish the resource. In fact, it arguably improves the resources. The more that people fall in love with trout streams, the more they want to save them from development and pollution. I've seen this first hand multiple times in my years of fishing. Also, I promote the sport that has brought me a certain peace in my life that nothing else has, and I'd like others to experience that. Catching fish makes people happier. So I suggest you go catch some fish.
"Do you financially benefit from the “use” of this industry?"
Absolutely! And I'm proud of that. Troutbitten is my career. I make my living from something I love. If you dig into the Troutbitten resources, you'll find 1200+ articles, 100+ podcasts and 80+ videos. Each of these are something I've created, and I love that process. I went to school for writing, and I get to be my own publisher. I also guide and teach others something I've been doing since I was a kid. It's a great life.
      Thanks for asking.
