Cerita sedikit ya. Awal denger lagu Avenged, tahun 2009 klo gak salah (SMP). Jaman di mana, (bagi saya) mau dengerin musik dll harus ke warnet dulu, jalan kaki, yaa klo kebetulan ada temen bisa naik sepeda/motor karna jarak rumah ke warnet cukup jauh. Gak sampai disitu, keberhasilan saya untuk dengerin musik juga terbilang untung-untungan, sebab gak semua biling kosong, kadang bisa nunggu 1-2 jam selesai orang main dan untuk mengisi kekosongan itu kadang saya juga iseng, (intap-intip) dari sekat triplek monitor abang-abang yang main (seruu) hehehe. tapi gpp itu semua dilakukan demi kegemaran saya terhadap musik. Dan mungkin warnet adalah koneksi yang cukup membantu untuk kehidupan dan kepentingan manusia pada waktu itu. Jadi, yaa bisa dibilang warnet adalah rumah kedua lah bagi penggunanya termasuk saya. Lagu-lagu yang saya dengerin sebelum Avenged itu : LP, RHCP, SOD, Emo Sama Country-Country(an). Mungkin lagi happening juga waktu itu. Akhirnya sekian lama menunggu, jumpa jua dengan monitor, keyboard dan headphone dengan sekelumit kabel yang merepotkan wkwkwk. Dan seperti biasa, ketika tangan kanan di mouse dan jari tangan kiri di W, A, S, D (main PB?) Ehh bukan. Awal-awal langsung buka FB, secrall-secroll, cek DM siapa tau ada balasan dari doi wkwk(ngarep) yaa bagaimanapun cinta monyet percis melekat dijiwa-jiwa para remaja wkwk lagi-lagi kala (itu). Lanjut. Dari arah depan ada yang memanggil. Saya tengok kanan-kiri kok orang-orang pada serius semua, dari mana nih suara, ohhh rupanya dari arah depan. "Siniiiii" wahh rupanya Abang saya. Kaget, kok ada dia di sini(mampus panik) jangan-jangan kegep ntnn Beep nih wkwk terus saya samperin dong (daripada di jitak). "Nih dengerin" wah! Gilak ini lagu enak bgt, sopan masuk ke kuping lalu saya lihat judulnya Dear God. "Oke oke, Dear God ya" langsung balik lagi ke Monitor. Gak kerasa tuh sejam, abis buat putar ulang lagu ini, enak aja didenger, nyaman dan after listening nya ini lagu kaya nyangkut dikepala, saya nyanyiin terus di jalanan, di kamar mandi, di sekolah, di mana-mana yaa meskipun nyanyi-nya belepetan (eweambah) wkwkwk. Awal denger Avenged nih, First Experience. Langsung jatuh hati, lewat dah jatuh hati sama pacar mah wkwkwk Lalu, selang setahun atau dua tahun, ya? Eh bener gak si. Baru deh saya dengerin album City of Evil. Ciamikkkk parah Gokkks abis lagu-lagunya. Dari kata perkata, lirik perlirik seakan menembus masuk dalam sanubari. Apalagi M.I.A ini, YaAllahhhh. Bagi saya, M.I.A adalah masterpiece-nya City Of Evil, sumpah. Nih ya temen-temen, saya saranin klo mau dengerin musik apalagi musik yg kita sukain, wajib, kudu, harus, pakai headset biar pas diputar, jleb masuk ke hati (hehehe) Missing In Acction. DOORR! sama persis ketika saya denger ini lagu langsung mati kutu, terpesona sama lengkingan gitarnya babang Zacky dan Synyster apalagi pas di akhir lagu, petikan gitarnya bikin sedih. Lagi-lagi sebanyak apapun saya ulang-ulang lagu ini tuh gak pernah gagal, asli. Apalagi dengernya tengah malem (pakai headset) Gilak si, buat saya ini lagu kaya bernyawa anjeng. Mulai dari itu semua, lagu ini seakan gak pernah hengkang dari telinga saya, M.I.A adalah sependek perjalanan pribadi saya yang sedih dan menyenangkan. Sampai detik ini, saya masih mendengarnya, sedu, sambil merangkai kenangan-kenangan yang menempel sewaktu di warnet, memelihara kenangannya, pengalamannya yang luar biasa dan memikirkan kehidupan dimasa mendatang (ceilah sok visioner) wkwk. Dan jelas Jauh berbeda dengan zaman kini, semuanya dapat diakses dengan mudah, dengan smartphone seakan dunia sekarang, berada digenggaman kita dan itu membantu. Jadi gak perlu repot-repot ke warnet (kadang kangen juga si) hehe. Sekarang umur saya 24 tahun di tahun ini. Klo dihitung-hitung, sudah 12 tahun Avenged mengisi dan menemani kehidupan saya. In my opinion, the first section of this song is about a soldier dealing with the moral ambiguities of his actions. On one hand, he’s fighting for God and Country while on the other hand he’s killing people. His only hope is that he’s on the right side of the fight, reasoning that surely 2 million soldiers can’t be wrong? He begins losing this internal battle, when he starts thinking about how he doesn’t even know all the reasons they’re invading someone’s homeland, killing fathers in front of their children and watching his brothers die, and for what? Freedom? After the intermission the story gets darker. It’s clear the soldier survived the war (that his side presumably won) but he lost the battle within. He walks the streets, hoping the world forgives him for murdering people in the name of God and Country. It’s a dark truth that people aren’t willing to face. Many people view this song as anti-soldier. No, it’s not anti soldier. It’s not even anti war. It’s examining the implications of war on the soldiers mind, the war we often forget because it’s not raging in our own minds, so we let the soldiers lose themselves. It’s one of the most patriotic songs.

In my opinion, the first section of this song is about a soldier dealing with the moral ambiguities of his actions. On one hand, he’s fighting for God and Country while on the other hand he’s killing people.
His only hope is that he’s on the right side of the fight, reasoning that surely 2 million soldiers can’t be wrong?
He begins losing this internal battle, when he starts thinking about how he doesn’t even know all the reasons they’re invading someone’s homeland, killing fathers in front of their children and watching his brothers die, and for what? Freedom?
After the intermission the story gets darker. It’s clear the soldier survived the war (that his side presumably won) but he lost the battle within. He walks the streets, hoping the world forgives him for murdering people in the name of God and Country.
It’s a dark truth that people aren’t willing to face. Many people view this song as anti-soldier. No, it’s not anti soldier. It’s not even anti war. It’s examining the implications of war on the soldiers mind, the war we often forget because it’s not raging in our own minds, so we let the soldiers lose themselves. It’s one of the most patriotic songs.
