Have you seen the BBC mini-series that was aired in 1979? I saw it here on UA-cam and it is fantastic in that regard. It really deepens the characters' dimensions. If you haven't seen it you should. Just be warned that you will become addicted and your whole week-end may get shot to hell becuase of its nearly 5 hour length.
