Why Wheeljack's Design Changed After Transformers Bumblebee. When fans got introduced to the new rebooted Transformers universe. They were instently met with a similar design aesthetic that harkened back to Generation 1 Transformers. Everything felt familiar yet slightly updated to fit the live action world Travis Knight was setting up. Unfortnuately that approach got thrown out of the window once Rise of the Beasts rolled around. The film thought it'd be a bright idea to take elements from the Bay canon. And the character that suffered the most from this was Wheeljack. Rather than take the more G1-inspired design of the Wheeljack seen in Bumblebee, either Hasbro or Paramount wanted to lean more into the idea of the character as a nerdy scientist. Kinda like he was in Dark of the Moon. The reason being that they felt the "tough guy" seen in the previous movie was too similar to other characters among the Autobots. This is...
Executives make bad decisions and then wonder why people hate it when it happens. They never learn. Ever.

Labeled as wheeljack, is wheeljack. I couldn't care what he looks like even if the bumblebee design is perfect.
The constant argument of "BB Wheeljack was the best" is really bs because he literally does nothing, unlike the superior designs where he actually did stuff. DOTM Que, being the best example, is probably more of a Wheeljack than any other continuity ever in existence.

Paramount is so damn obsessed with tying everything in with the Bayverse.
I mean they have Michael Bay as a producer for basically every past and future live action Transformers films because he is essentially the father of Transformers for live action, I can definitely see him getting the producer role for the eventual crossover film that was teased

I like to think that Pablo (ROTB Wheeljack) was a student of the actual wheeljack who trained pablo to become a inventer and died in battle. Pablo just adapted the name wheeljack to honor him.

Pablo is basically a totally different character or a drone sent by wheeljack.

Steve Blum as wheel jack actually got me geeked when that cybertron scene came on screen. Literally everyone was so happy to see the G1 designs with a modern feel to them. Why are studios so dumb, who actually thought “yeah let’s change something that everyone loved”

In a cinematic universe of films where battle masks are a trend with most of the transformers. They could have given him both nerdy face and classic g1 head as a battle mask.

Pablo. It could work if they didn't really recognize him, because he changed over time to enjoy Earth culture. A little bit of extra character to him.
You know what's funny? I'm all for saying the Autobots get inspired by Earth culture or even that things in Earth culture existed on Cybertron before the war, but not this. Maybe if the design was slight changes to G1. Like they did with TFP.

The start of the bumblebee movie was the best bit out of any live action TF movie
I just now realized that Wheeljack was voiced by Steve Blum in the bumblebee movie which means that we were robbed of a voice that actually fits Wheeljack in the movie where he actually has more lines. They missed so hard on everything related to wheeljack in this iteration of him.
Pablo(Wheeljack in RotB) is proof that the dude directing ROTB had any of idea of who any character was.

Caple has stated it wasn't his call. As this very video indicates, it was a decision made by Hasbro or the film studio.
Also, Caple was apparently the one who pushed for the inclusion of the reference to Primus, and the use of Vince DiCola's Unicron theme in the score.

A popular theory is that Pablo is actually a remote controlled drone made by wheel jack, which is because of the wire on his head and something mirage said about Pablo. This is the concept I like to personally believe.

The fact is that he had to change his appearance to disguise himself and become more discreet, he couldn't keep those colors or armor, he had to adapt to the vehicle and he had to change everything

wheeljack was pretty smart and built the dinobots in G1. he was also a strong and highly skilled fighter in prime. hey writers, both can exist at the same time, they're not mutually exclusive
I’m pretty sure the og wheel jack voice actor was also the voice of Dempsey from cod zombies, that would’ve been cool hearing his voice on the big screen
TFP wheel jack was my favorite and I would’ve loved to see a live action adaptation of his characterization

Now while I don’t particularly mind ROTB Wheeljack’s design, though in the sense of the design on its own as opposed to being a design for Wheeljack, it’s clearly a downgrade compared to Wheeljack’s design in Bumblebee.
Though the weirdest part to me is that, when you take into consideration how Wheeljack acts in ROTB, I think his design could have been tweaked into a pretty decent iteration of Beachcomber. After all Beachcomber was more of a peaceful character with a love for nature, something that ROTB Wheeljack’s personality kind of alludes to. Just swap out the brown for some blue, maybe even a rusted blue, change his head a bit, and you got yourself a live action Beachcomber; albeit a Beachcomber that doesn’t turn into a dune buggy. If they had this design evolve into Beachcomber towards the end of its conception, you wouldn’t have people angry about this being a Wheeljack design and you’d give some spotlight to a character who hasn’t had much focused appearances in Transformers media outside of the comics and the G1 cartoon.
So they finally got it right with Bumblebee and then screwed it up again.

His design didn't "suffer" from the change of a more Bayverse inspired look, I think it was a very funny and immersive change. As he would have adapted to his surroundings over many years in that geographic location, changing his appearance and accent. This was not a purely artistic direction change but an immersive one too and a positive change. And while I do prefer the Bayverse to the new G1 inspired looks I think these are still mostly not bad
Kinda wish the G1 head is merely a helmet because RoTB and BB Movie are supposed to be in the same universe. But everything in RoTB felt like it's a different timeline that can connect with it's previous film being BB Movie. But I guess that's what happens when you rush things when wanting to start fresh. And it's films after it suffered from it and will continue to.

Imagine that, a tough Autobot fighting in a war for their planet felt too much alike to other tough Autobots fighting in a war for their planet. Nah they just straight up butchered Wheeljack for no reason other than wanting fans to connect to mirage the most. Same reason they killed off bumblebee.

These the two mainly reasons why I dislike this movie. TF Prime's Wheeljack and Bumblebee are my favourites and they decided to butchered both of them to gives spotlight to Mirage.
I never felt jealous for sharing of spotlight to any bots but this one is so cheap!

Wheel jack always needs to be in his G1 body design. Besides people don’t see wheel jack as a tough guy all the time they usually see him as a brilliant scientist. His body design just gives him the speed and defensive means that he usually has. He’s not always seen as a warrior due to his personality and character
