Now and again you hear a song which finds something in you that you didn’t know was there. This is one such song and echoing another comment here it brings the tears on - and I am 67!!!!!!!
Listened to this guy a few years ago and liked it but have just started listening more to some of their other material and they have nailed that early 80s alternative sound, a little bit more modern and refrained but just right for modern ears. Closest thing to being teleported back to the fantastic 80s music scene and listening to new wave for the first time, it certainly makes you want to dig out those 80s classics again.
When those synthesizers kick in this song absolutely takes off....very very cool song with a tremendous groove and razor sharp vibe.....these guys definitely are x files fans. I am a child of the 1980s and this was our sound. Drab Majesty has taken this sound to a brand new level....Very Special thank you to Slowdives current 2023 tour where I caught a lucky break and saw them on the tube.
This song is about how you can fall victim to cult mentality, by finding your own Dot in the Sky, much how the Heaven's Gate cultists did the same. The song "39 by Design" is directly about the Heaven's Gate cult, and those that died. The whole album, Demonstration is about cultist type thinking and mass suicide, that is so prevalent among cults.
I discovered them only a year ago after researching festival line up. Loved em right away. 80's feel musically, nice melody, some very haunting, emotive voice and melancholy lyrics. Very refreshing. Have played this song about 20 times today. Sorry neighbour's! Lol The chorus reminds me of another song but can't pinpoint it. Grrr
@@out_of_control1 Their music is definitely addictive, lol. I haven't added any new "favourite band"s to my personal list in over 25 years.... until now! I'm hoping to see them live someday.....someday.....
@@Haunted-tg4jvThey ARE very good!! You may like Linea Asperea (try Decoherence or Malarone), Agnes Circle "Porcelain." She Past Away "Durdu Dunya" or Boy Harsher Fate, Morphine, LA. Let me know what you think x
Once, I was taking notes of musical suggestions coming from a Death Metal (my favorite style) band - Primitive Man. They mentioned Drab Majesty, then I came to check. I've been stuck in a loop since then.
One of my favorite records that I own. The vibes are amazing. Such a good production front to back. Just takes you back in time to a totally different place.
3:31 - delaying the chorus a full 8 bars I think. Little touches like this demonstrate how the artist crafts his songs and knows what he's doing. I'm sure a musician can explain it better than I can. But if you compare Drab Majesty to other New Wave revival bands like And One or Vowws, you will notice more complex and 'period correct' chords in Drab's compositions. No disrespect to the other bands - which I have seen live and appreciate - but Drab is a level (if not levels) above. This isn't New Wave / Goth cosplay and impersonation. Drab is giving us a musical world in which the genre didn't fade away. In some alternate timeline, Demonstration is one of the best albums of 1987, and Drab toured with Sisters of Mercy or Clan of Xymox.
You're exactly right. It's not a homage, it's a continuation. I think that's why I'm still listening whereas I gave up on so many "new retro wave" bands.

tiene algo de mis bandas favoritas de darkwave de antaño, aunque con su toque electro-futurista no sé como describirlos de otro modo, simplemente música para dioses de otra galaxia.
- I cant stop playing this song.
- Have had it on repeat since yesterday.
- The chorus is so anthemic and gives me a rush!
Yes, it's quite brilliant. Clicking on the thumbnail of a band you're not familiar
with can be very rewarding occasionally.
Whole album is good

That's interesting, I saw it as a statement about modern culture, haha.
One of the best albums. Period. Definitely a Desert Island Disc (old school).
Recently discovered Drab Majesty. I'm obsessed! I feel completely plugged in to the music...the melodic guitar, the voice....fantastic and refreshing

Finance guru Dave Ramsey show brought me here. Commercial break this song played. I am now better for it. Love this song. New fan.
A brand new heart
For your counterpart
You imagined life
Before they walked into the dark
An alternate life
Slowly rides the line
And all it takes is watering at night
Wait to climb aboard
Destruction to a T
Shattering responsibility
Sometimes it's easier said than done
Eternal life
From earthly vacation
A burning knife
Won't cut you out of ice cold persuasion
You accepted the ride
With the exception of life
You might find yourself in love
With deception and lies
An unconventional mind
Was your ticket to die
You may have found
Your dot in the sky
They never heard from you
And it became a concern
You were gradually conditioned
With nowhere to turn
You went to climb aboard
Construction to a T
Shattering responsibilities
Eternal life
From earthly vacation
A burning knife
Won't cut you out of ice cold persuasion
You accepted the ride
With the exception of life
You might find yourself in love
With deception and lies
An unconventional mind
Was your ticket to die
You might find yourself in love
With your dot in the sky
You accepted the ride

You might find yourself in love
