Thanks for this, hardest part for me was reaching those screws inside the boot handle. The lock was slow to release, so i took a hammer to it (heck i had the replacement lock ready) Job all done now, but wouldnt have been without this video. 😊

Excellent, done the job, many thanks! I didn’t even have to change the latch mechanism in the end. A tiny piece broken of plastic trim had jammed itself between the sliding metal parts of the latch. Once it had worked it’s way out (which took some effort) a bit of WD40 has got it working really smoothly. Refitted and job done 👍🏼

Thanks for this video! Partially solved the issue for me. If it doesn't work to knock, pull and shift the lock lever, try unscrewing the lock's lid. It'll give you a better view of the mechanics, and perhaps you can remove something that's preventing the white plastic lever from moving correctly. If it still doesn't work, you can remove the lock entirely from the car. Unscrew the two nuts on the hatch to get it open. Then remove the plastic panel on the car that surrounds the lock. No screws or nuts there, just plastic clips. Then remove two nuts underneath the lock. Finally, I knocked on the lock arms using a screw driver and it finally opened. After that it was really easy to replace the lock with a new one.

Great video & saved me getting the mechanic to do the job. Removing the existing lock was pretty tricky but once removed fitting and completing the job was so much easier with the boot opened

Great video. I ended up completely dismantling the old lock and taking a hammer and screwdriver to it to unlock the old one, but otherwise it was super easy!

Thanks a lot @rrobbiebeach for making this video. It is really useful, like @thelinmichael I was not able to get the lock open and I needed to unbolt it from the bottom under the shelf as described by @thelinmichael. After that I used a dremel with a cut off wheel attachment to cut the latch to which the lock is attached. The part number for steel fixing that the lock attaches to is 8v0827507e.
Another thing to bear in mind when checking this is whether to pneumatic pipe between the boot handle and the mechanism has come loose. I think mine was detached and I needed to thread it back through the small hole in the boot and reattach it.

Thank you for your guidance, it works perfect and it is really simple!
One thing that helped me - if you are alone and can't push trunk to open it, you can push it with your legs and use hands to press the key and open the lock.

Very useful. I found that if you remove the boot floor it makes it much easier to get at those tricky screws in the handle.
Despite getting the tailgate internal panel off I could not get the lock to release. Lesson 1 - buy a new lock as soon as the old one starts to behave different to normal.
Lesson 2. If the lock will not release then you have to remove the hasp side from the car body. Unclip the plastic panel running right along the tailgate sill and you can reach the two 13mm nuts securing it. I still couldn't make it release, so you need some very delicate work with a disc cutter and a thin disc to cut off the latching hook. After this everything is easy and it takes a quarter of the time to reassemble everything.
    Very many thanks.

i have a boot lock that is failing. The actuator seems to work, but the trunk wont open. What do you mean using a disc cutter to open it?

    • @johnyoung5417
      @johnyoung5417 3 роки тому

@@stefanhousen5057 Stefan, If you use the video instructions to access the lock, but are still unable to open it, then you need to unbolt the hasp (the fixed part that the lock engages with). This is relatively easy, and at this point the tailgate will open. You will then be able to remove the lock and the hasp from the car - along with a piece of plastic trim. You will be able to see the hook on the bottom of the lock, and you can cut it off - very carefully - using an angle grinder with a very thin steel cutting disc. It is tricky because there is limited space, but it can be done. After this you can separate the lock from the hasp. The good bit is that putting it all back together - with a new lock - is very much easier than getting it open.

No, not there. You need to look at the bottom of the lock mechanism, where the big notch engages the hasp. You should see the hook across the bottom. Cut the thicker end of this and it will come apart.

It is possible to repair the actual lock!!!!!
The actual servo muct be working. Must have been removed without force. And the white plastic parts must be intact. Bits of black palstic chiped off, these then get wedged behind the lock bolt. This fixes the bolt in the closed position. Hence it's tricky to actually remove the lock.
    PM if you need help.
    1. Remove servo houseing
    2. Drill out the two rivets. Must drill servo side up!!!
    3. Push back the two metal retainers
    4. Carefully remove the outer ring (black plastic) from the top rear section, (faces the number plate)
    5. Remove the metal plate
    6. Clean, degrease, re-grease
    7. Put it back together
    8. Put back tother in the closed position, this allows the springs to go back into position.
    9. Be careful not break the closed position sensor. It's will break if not careful as the lock is in the closed position.

  • @bignormeister

I found that from the inside of the car, if you unlock with the key and push hard on the tail gate (maybe bang it with a closed fist a few times) it will eventually open allowing easier access. The grab-handle that you close the tail gate with has also broken, I can't seem to find a replacement part, does anyone have experience with this? Great video btw, thank you! I would say, watch the clips are all intact particularly the two where the two plastic panels join, I broke one of mine!

This is ideal boot lock failure situation! Some guys like me will have total lock failure where lock grabbed hook permanently! What is solution for this? To dismantle whole bloody trunk! All plastics, hook and lock! When you will do this you can't use this video to help you out. Only thing usable from this video is removing of trunk internal plastic cover and I guarantee you hell in removing those 2 trunk handle screws(you will curse German engineering). Once when you removed it you got to dismantle the boot lock and after than you need to take bootom boot plastic so you have acces to hook screws. Once when you dismantle the hook you will be able to open the trunk! But now you are in real problem! Why?
Situation 1: If you have bought new boot lock and hook than there is no problem at all. You need to cut off the hook with dremmel or grinder, and put evereything back(it is not easy to put evereything back either- some plastic connectors will probably permanently crack!).
Sitation 2: If you have new lock but you did not bought new hook(you want to keep the old one) than you are in serius shit! You got to cut or dismantle lock from the hook! This is PITA job if you wanna keep lock plastic intact! It is not simple job like in this guy video at all! You cant take boot lock plastic off untill you cut of the mechanism that permanentoy stuck on hook!(don't ask me how I did it but it lasted long time! You will curse German enginering and Italy workers who made this OEM lock for VW.
