Hey everyone, Thanks for watching. Overall a straight foward install! Let me know if you have any questions in the comment section below!
Instagram-@thetrailtrek
One really big mistake on these install steps: Makes sure to torque AFTER putting the vehicle on the ground and after unloading the tires from being lifted (roll vehicle forwards and backwards a few times). Otherwise you have locked in stress on you suspension and frame elements. You see way more lift than you should. Hopefully, your alignment shop unloaded the frame tension. Otherwise, you're putting unnecessary load on the suspension and prone to break something.
Dude this is literally the best video to watch to see what everything should actually look like when you're doing the install
Thank you! Really glad It is helpful!
I just completed installation of the Ironman lift kit on my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, and I want to thank you for posting this video! In most respects, this video is better than the "official" Ironman video (although that one is worth watching too, as he has a really cool trick for getting the alignment almost perfect, and he also says that you need to lower the car before torquing the bolts on moving parts, which seems especially important for the rear). The one thing that's not shown in this video is the stuff related to the rear swaybar. I found that to be a PITA, and if I had it to do over, I'd completely remove the rear swaybar, as I don't think it's going to hold up to off road use.
Anyways, thanks again for the great video!
shout out to you for providing the torque specs. really appreciate it.
Least I can do! Thanks for the support!
Solid choice on suspension. I know a lot of people with Ironman. Nice job on the install video!
Thank you!
Just put mine in today! This was better than the official video
Glad it helped and thank you!
Thank you for this thorough install video. Did you get the Spec-C heavy load for front and rear coilovers or did you go with the medium load? My Xtrek 2018 will have a similar weight as yours (Prinsu rack, roof tent, rear tire, etc.) but I am not doing serious off-roading, just BLM land camping, and a little off-road nothing major. Would it make sense to do a medium load in the front and a heavy load in the rear? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Best install vid ever.... Very well done, thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Best video/tutorial, excellent job on filming and explanation process. Best, Subscribed!
Thank you! Means a lot.
Great install video! But my big question is what type of rear bumper are you running? Is that a built in tire swing?!
How do you find the ride after installation is it firmer/bumpier as such with small bump compliance or is it much the same? hard cornering the same or can you explain how much different. Thanks
I really appreciate the torque specs! However, the rear control arms should not be torqued until the weight of the vehicle in on the struts and the vehicle is "rocked" or is driven forward and backward a few feet. And they are struts, not coil overs. Other than that, great video!
Thank you and that’s for that! All the best!
Subscribed! Love the content! I’ll be doing an install next month on my 18 FXT. Won’t be an Ironman bc of budget but that kit is hella nice!
Thank you, I’d save up! 100% worth it!
Solid install video! Someone needs to make one for the Forester now!
Agreed! Regardless the Crosstrek and the Forester subframe are the same! The install should be the same, as well as the torque values!
I just ordered them this very morning. They're a thousand now instead of twelve hundred, like you said. Three times as much as spacers, but considering you get all new springs, some fresh struts, yadda yadda, it's kind of a bargain actually.
My question: I'm leery about the rear spacers. Not the big ones, the little ones. That's not gonna be problematic? Those look strangely shaped to handle that kind of weight and stress. Is this nothing? Can we even know yet?
Superb video.
Do you mean the support lift ones? If so, they shouldn’t be an issue at all! All they are used for is to bring down the bracket that holds to the frame, not the actual subframe. They’re more than enough. No issues so far and my rig is way more weighed down than the average rig!
Cool Rig!!
I've gotta get back to working on my 17' Trek. Might go this route for the lift 🤔
Hey! Unfortunately Ironman hasn’t released a kit for the 1st gen Crosstrek. (13-17) Hopefully they will release it one day!
Did you torque the front sway bar link on the nut? Or the allen screw? Looks like the nut but I can't really tell.
The nut!
Really appreciated the torque values
I like the outcome of your setup. I currently have 1.5” ADF lift kit + 0.5” Rallitek lift spring. But I feel like it’s very stiff for me. Since you had Rallitek. I want to know how can you compare Rallitek setup vs to a Ironman4x4 ATS. Can’t wait for the review!
I definitely would say the ATS kit all the way! I just dropped the review, I answer the question of the before and after! ATS is superiority that setup all day!
Also how did you like it in comparison to the old blue ralitek springs you replaced them with?
He should have sooo much more travel/articulation now. You have more traction when you can keep all 4 wheels on the ground. Wheel lifts look cool, but they are actually an indicator that you don't have enough suspension travel.
Do you install the regular medium or heave doty kit?
Great video, 👍..I've been wanting to lift my outback, but not sure to go with spacers or do what you did. What is the difference.? Safety..money..? Would be highly Appreciated if you don't mind enlightening me. Thanks.
Hey! Thanks for tuning in. In my other videos like the 1 month review and others I talk about the differences and why a coil over kit is the best!
@@thetrailtrek oh that's good..thanks. I shall look for that video. Cheers
Late to the party here, but was the camber way off when you initially put it on until you had an alignment? I was curious if this is normal for the lift. I put the front on today and it’s way off.
Didn’t have any issues in that sense! Thanks for tuning in!
The stock alignment bolts were enough to align it to spec ?
Putting in the iron man kit does it affect the warranty?
How long would something like this take for a novice and how much would it cost for a professional to do? I'm trying to figure out if I should just spend the time at work making the money it would take to pay someone else to do it so I don't screw anything up lol.
you broke the swaybar? how does it handle without it? I'm going to be doing the same to my trek when funds allow and wonder if that is something that will affect the roll more than anticipated.
Seriously has been one of the best free mods you can do! The articulation added offroad is 100% worth it. That being said I haven't noticed a huge difference on road. My rear is really weighed down so it definitely is hard to tell a difference. I would recommend to delete it regardless. 10/10!
Crazy to say i got this kit on my car now!!!
Full circle haha
How do you address the much higher angle on the steering knuckle to the wheel at extension? does this not stress the whole shaft at the joint?
Totally agree with you. Thankfully the car did settle from its original high after install. The ride height now hasn't added more angle to drastically add that more more angle and stress.
What about the 19 Forester Touring?
Thanks for the video! Love it! Great job! I'm looking to get these installed in my Trek as well. Any rubbing issues at all? I know for some with the 1.5" spacers it would still rub. I'm currently stock height with 215's but if the ATS allows no rub, I may consider 235's. Anyways awesome video!
Stay tuned for the video coming VERY soon!
4 months later but 235 fat rub even with 2inch lift I have 225 75 15 still rub not much tho. About to lift it ill let u know if there's still rub
@@trekcrossca1587 dope! Lmk! Were you on stock height or 2” with the 225?
Does the break line extender for the rear come with the kit?
It does!!
How do you like the Ironman on your Subaru? How’s the ride quality now?
Hey Romeo,
I come from a Rallitek 1” lift spring on a OEM spring. Since installing the Ironman kit, my handling has gone up, sag hasn’t been an issue, and most of all I fee a huge increase in rode quality and reliability in the system. Quality has stayed the same and really adjusted well to the rig. Really happy with it. Let me know if you have any questions! Review video coming soon!
Legendary video
Great job
Very informative!
Fantastic video brother. I'm gonna be getting these for my forester soon. Question though I've heard conflicting information. So I've heard that the new gen (19-20) Forester, Outback, Crosstrek do not need the subframe spacers, and then I've heard they do. I have the 2in Readylift strut spacers on now but I want to upgrade the whole suspension to Ironman as you did. I do not currently have subframe spacers and everything feels and works alright. Can you shed some light on the requirement of the subframe spacers. Thanks in advance. #SubieLife
Hey! So the easy answer is yes, you do need to run the subframe spacers! When putting a 2” lift on the rig, you’re going to get a lot of more stress on both the subframe and CVs. That’s being said I would NOT run the Ironman kit with out the spacers. Subarus are unibody, which means the subframe needs to be spaced so that the stress isn’t overwhelming. Regardless, you’re gonna love the kit! Let me know if you have any questions!
@@thetrailtrek Thankyou! I appreciate the info, I never really got a clear answer from anyone till now, going forward I definitely will be installing the lift spacers they gave me! Thanks again!!!
I went to their site... doesn't look like they have a kit for the '12-'17
They don’t, only 18+ CROSSTREK!
@@thetrailtrek hey nice vid. I subbed and liked. I really like what u did to urs. Good Job
How does it ride in comparison to stock? any rubbing / or handling issues.?
Night and day! For both OEM and the 1” lift springs. Handling went up IMO, rubbing will always be a bit because of my tire size (235/75/15) but over all so happy I went this route. Gonna out out a review video soon! The kit is on sale now! Don’t sleep, 20% off!
@@thetrailtrek so would you recommend this ironman or rallitek lift with ralliteck coils which are still cheaper than this ironman kit? Also do you see a lot of stress on the control arms?
thanks for the tip on the price..
I would go with the Ironman because for the price you’re getting a new strut (extended), new spring, and spacer kit. For the deal Ironman has on the ATS right now, don’t sleep on the kit. Difference was night and day with my oem
struts and rallitek springs. Sorry for the late reply!
Great video! this is so informative. thank you
Thanks for that and thanks for watching!
What rear bumper is that?
What size tires and wheels are you running?
235/75/15! Check out another video I have going through all the sizes you can run!
What rims and tires do you have for your car?
Check out “Build Bio EP.1” I go over them in depth! Thanks for tuning in!
So does this mess with alignment/ camber?
Defiently recommend getting it aligned after. Regardless you will still be able to align it back to stock.
hey what is the material of rear spacers for subframe?
Aluminum!
Thanks for great video man!
Hail from Sibeia by the way :)
How do u think, are this ironman lift complect suits to impreza GH/forester SH models? Your subframes and arms looks so simular to my 2008 impreza.
Unfortutly there is no fabric solution for my generation of impreza, but i drive an offroad too. So i lift my 2008 subie impreza by using oem springs and struts from 2008 year model subie forester. Now i want to grow up more and i am looking forward to install same ironman kit as yours, from your generation. The only think i not sure - Will it suits...
Thanks for tuning in! Unfortunately, I don’t think that this option would work for you. I wouldn’t recommend going this route unless you are willing to do custom work. I’d stick to the forester suspension with spacers! Thanks!
whats your tire size
I wanna do but I’m so scared I’ll mess something up
You’ll be fine, safe option is a 215! Nothing has broken on mine due to that.
You made a great instructional video! I just ordered this kit for my 19' forester. Subbed! Hit me back, I've got a couple good off-road videos too! I'm looking forward to more of your videos!
Thank you!
Ditched the Rallitek eh?
Indeed. Just liked what Ironman was doing a lot more.
Good install but these aren’t coilovers. You are about to confuse people.
Thanks for tuning in!
Does anyone have a good link to the tools used in this tutorial? Thanks
Hey David! There’s really wasn’t a lot of tools use. Here te the ones I used:
3/8” Torque Wrench
3/8” Socket Set with Ratchet Wrench
1/2” Deep Socket Set with Ratchet Wrench
1/2” Breaker Bar
Jack and Jack Stands
Milwaukee Brushless Impact driver(Not needed but makes things easy)
That’s it! Let me know if you have any questions!
@@thetrailtrek Thank You. And yes didn't seem like I lot, but wanted to make sure i have the right tools for the job. Thanks for the reply
