- This video documents the Cass Scenic Railroad Photo Specials in 1985 & 1986 with Shay's 2, 4 & 5 on the line from Cass to Bald Knob & Western Maryland Shay 6 & Western Maryland BL-2 7172 on the line from Cass to Durbin. The line from Cass to Durbin was in regular use by Cass up until 1985 when it was destroyed in a flood which resulted in multiple washouts along the line & making it unsafe to operate trains over it. It remained abandoned for many years up until recently when work began to reinstate the line for usage by the Durbin & Greenbrier Scenic Railroad.

Great news, the line between Cass and Durbin has finally been resurrected and reconnected again after the 1985 flood so now trains can run their future excursions from the Cass Scenic Railroad to the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad and back.
44:07 That’s the old Trout Run bridge they are crossing over. That is where the state of WV ended up building a completely new bridge beside it.
I regularly work the line between Cass and Durbin now. It’s interesting to watch and figure out what spots are where today, especially the parts that were washed out.

Wow, wonder what kind of whistles they were on those Shay type steam locomotives?
