Can you imagine some, no scratch that a lot of Barça fans hesitate at the idea of him returning to Barça. When he's the only one worthy to succeed Xavi, wear his no.6 & make it his own. They say he's too old at 28 & injury prone when he hasn't had a serious injury in five years and the one he did have hasn't broken him but made him stronger & a better midfielder as the defensive side of his game has improved leaps and bounds. Which is why I was baffled when we went to Bayern and came back with 31 yr old Vidal box to box midfielder instead of Thiago, the maestro and the most complete technical midfielder we've been missing since Xavi left. Yes we have Arthur and De Jong but they are both lacking in terms of creativity on the ball. It's one thing to keep the ball and not lose it under pressure but it is another thing to pick out a pass under the same conditions. When the opposition is parking the bus Thiago does not only have these two abilities at his disposal but he also has the flair to create something out of nothing by beating his man and he too can provide a goal threat from distance or by getting into the box. Arthur and De Jong don't have these abilities and they won't learn it by themselves, which is why Thiago should've been resigned to help them develop this side of their games. Because on their own they will shirk the responsibility of creating chances from the possession that their so good at keeping under pressure and with their passes only find Messi. Then we're back to the same problem of Messidependencia, adding Neymar, although I am not against his return but not at the expense of Coutinho or Dembéle, and Griezmann, who I am adamantly against his signing and would rather Dybala or Thiago, Grimaldo and Iñigo, will not change that. It will just continue to see the midfield lose emphasis as the most important part of the team as our creative hub, as well as our identity and we have our Board, Sporting Directors and Coach to thank for it.

Of course he will never get the love they had for Schweinsteiger but he fits in his shoes very well when it comes to his importance om the field.
Not as much a leader as Schweinsteiger but his overall skills make him the most important player on the pitch

In the Bundesliga him and Tolisso could be a perfect defense midfield. Both are good with the ball (Thiago a bit more) and defensively they would combine good game reading and closing channels with a more physical and aggressive style of tolisso. Also Tolisso wins almost all his headers.
