    Most of the negative comments here are pathetically stupid .....never anywhere did he say it was a generator, it's not a free energy device, nor is it an over unity device, because that would defy the laws of physics / the universe ....... appreciate it for what it is and the ability / craftsmanship of it's creator

    I did enjoy your presentation very much... but... I have said this to many other makers of the 'solar levitating axis motor'... and now I will say it to you too... why not use opposing magnets (i.e. North Pole facing North Pole) at both ends of the axis rod to stabilize its position in 3D space??... this will completely remove any physical contact points and therefore reduce friction to a minimum... i.e. wind resistance only. Give it a try.
    Another good idea is to build a vertical axis model... and fit it with an axial flux alternator... free power... while there is light on the panels... even synthetic light.
    Thanx HAMMERLAND!!!
    Seriously Cool.

      It's far more efficient to just use the solar panels on their own to generate electricity. For one, the fact that this motor spins means there are losses due to friction (with the air around it). Therefore, any method of converting the movement to electricity would be less efficient than the panels themselves.

    • @Husholdninger

      I didn't account for that. Do you think it would be the same within a vaccum?

    • @RovakX
      @RovakX 7 років тому +1

      Yes, It would be more efficient in a vacuum for sure, but still not as good as the solar panels on their own. If you're wondering where the energy goes then, look up the properties of a solenoid, like how it interacts with magnetic and electric fields. You'll find that it takes work just to move a charge in a magnetic field. I think its all pretty interesting, but it's just too much information for me to type out in a youtube comment. :p

    What do the little solar panels do?

    • @farewell_8450
      @farewell_8450 7 років тому +1

      Winter Star They basicaly power up the whole thing, the electricity they generate is used to spin the motor ;P
      And sadly this motor is not designed to generate a whole lot of power, its just for educational purposes i guess... as the main shaft does not have any torque at all (by that i mean it is very easy to stop the motor from spining, i bet you can stop it with only one finger), you can not generate power with that... :/
      But it still looks amazing so it's okay X)

    • @Chimonger1
      @Chimonger1 7 років тому

      Oh...didn't realize the solar panels were actually feeding energy to turn it...thot maybe those were simply used to cause heating in alternating sections.
      Someone else made something like this, only, far simpler....used stretched garbage bag strips, on a barrel/bucket/cups [depends on size], which heated up, causing the cups or buckets used under them, to warp slightly on the sides facing the sun, which caused the construct to turn. [the strips cooled as it rotated to the shaded sides]. No solar panels....but his demo was also a toy demo.
      What if that kind of thing were used, with magnets inside the buckets or tube holding the dark and light strips...might that generate some usable energy?

    • @farewell_8450
      @farewell_8450 7 років тому

      Winter Star Well basicaly you could generate power with anything that spins, but considering those motors are only designed to move and not to generate power, they do it with a very small force so it is hard to create a lot of energy with it, but yes, i guess you could generate some.
      Considering the little motor that was made in the vidéo can't provide a lot of energy, if you wanted to power up something with that you could also just directly plug the solar panels on the power input ;P
      And the motor you described could'nt work with magnets this way because the magnets also need coils to repulse, as it is the thing that moves the whole thing. it would be possible to add a coil in each bucket and add a magnet at the bottom of the motor, not to far of the buckets, then connect the coils to solar panels. This should spin if correctly made, but now the whole "bucket heating" system would be useless, as this should now spin too fast for the buckets to even heat or cool.

    • @farewell_8450
      @farewell_8450 7 років тому

      Also, no, the solar panels are not used as heaters ;) , The way this motor spins is like every other brushed motor does : it applies power to the coils in a correct order. it is acctually using electromagnets (Those are the coils on the motor). This is also why there is a magnet at the bottom of it, it's the magnet that is used to spin the motor

    Very good, congratulations! How to adapt a Dynamo to generate electricity?

    • @aprillomat
      @aprillomat 7 років тому +8

      i'm almost certain the amount of kinetic energy is way too low to get any sizeable amount of electric energy from a dynamo - chances are, the dynamo will stop the mendocino motor if you attach it.
      if you want electricity from it, you should connect the solar panels directly to whatever you wish to feed with it.
      the reason why mendocino motors usually are built hovering, is also because that removes most of the friction (only air and that tiny pike cause friction, and that's very low). if it generated a lot of energy, it could overcome much higher friction.

    • @trevorh6438
      @trevorh6438 7 років тому

      it can generate a static charge, which can be harnessed with a tesla coil to generate free power.

    • @aprillomat
      @aprillomat 7 років тому

      Trevor Hurd
      do you know how small the amount of energy is that a static charge of that magnitude nets?
      then you might as well just attach a tiny dynamo. or harness the electricity from the solar panels directly. either way, you couldn't do a lot with it.

    • @trevorh6438
      @trevorh6438 7 років тому

      *****
      Here, I thought you could save up charge in a capacitor to use at a set rate.
      With enough switching, transforming, charging, voltage ramping, and discharging, I think you could get quite a lot of good use out of it. The whole thing would be basically like a Wimshurst Generator that you don't have to spin yourself.

    • @aprillomat
      @aprillomat 7 років тому

      Trevor Hurd
      in a way, yes. in fact, i have a wimshurst machine at home. the sad truth, however, is that a wimshurst machine doesn't generate a lot of amps, either :)
      it makes pretty sparks, but if you try to use it to power something, let's say a motor or lamp, it will struggle quite a bit.
      so any appliance that needs a steady DC supply is out of the question. on the other hand, anything that takes very little energy to power, or can work with sudden periodic discharges, would work.

    poor motor only one panel is ever in the most optimal position to receive the light nice model

      That's how the motor works, by having a differential of current from one side to the other to self state. If all sides got equal sunlight it wouldn't move.
