I adore Rome, it has been my home for the last 11 years. I'm originally from the Bronx NY. I went to Rome 11 years ago to do my college year abroad. I, met my handsome compassionate husband the first day of school and i never looked back to America . 9 years of marriage with the love of my life and 4 beautiful funny smarts babies later, This Afro Cuban Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx New York is officially Roman 😄

I find that the best restaurants or trattoria in Rome are always outside the historic center. Felice a Testaccio has been my favorite restaurant in Rome for years. The food is amazing, the waiters are so friendly and professional, a truly hidden gem!

Felice a Testaccio is far from a hidden gem. It used to be famous amongst Romans, but it has gone very downhill and now is basically just for tourists.

I have been to Rome several times. I am going to Felice's and try that delicious looking food this September. I have seen several travel logs on Italy but I like the fact that you get away from just the tourist traps and focus on where local residents go for food and fun. And- you seem like a very nice person. Caio!

@@davidlynn5385, What does that mean? I live for part of the year in Roma and I am simply confirming that Felice a Testaccio is a tourist trap. It used to be very good and very popular amongst Romans, but it has gone downhill over the years as it became more popular with tourists. Basically, the owners know they can get away with subpar products and higher prices so it’s a win-win for them.

Good job, if you'll ever come back, try to go to Castelli Romani, all the small cities around roman country. It will be astonishing and wonderful. Do try Frascati, Ariccia, Castel Gandolfo...and to the norh Martignano Lake and Bracciano Lake.

Having just discovered your channel yesterday, and missing traveling so much due to the current pandemic, this video actually made me cry. That meal looked INCREDIBLE. Even though I'm 3/4 Italian and grew up with nearly all of that food, my mother never made Carbonara cuz it wasn't her favorite. I'll never forget the first time I had Carbonara in Rome. It was a game changer. (There is only one restaurant in NYC that can make it as close as I had it in Rome - when we can go to restaurants again, my ass will be there!) I'm definitely going to share your channel with my fellow travel junkies and foodies.

Information on prices would have been interesting. Having been to Rome and it being my favorite city, I know that the bill for a none-too-fancy dinner can range from 10 Euros to 60 Euros per person (drinks not included).
The problem I encounter a lot eating in Italy is that portions are really small and you have to spend quite a lot of money for a multiple-course meal. Looking at the places you went to and the food and drinks you enjoyed you must have spent a small fortune. Interesting video nonetheless even though there weren't too many things for a veggie to enjoy. ;)

Be aware, not every big (or small) church is a cathedral. A cathedral is the official church of the bishop of the diocese and there is only one cathedral in each diocese. In Rome the cathedral is the church of St. John of the Lateran in the southeast of the city. St. Peter's basilica at the Vatican is not the cathedral of Rome.

@Jeremy Kirkpatrick thanks for watching and commenting. I would try Felice where I ate in the video, it's in Testaccio which is a very local neighborhood in Rome away from the tourism...Guanciale is a cured meat that can be made with pig jowl and/or cheek...so there's probably a good you'll get the cheek in the carbonara...appreciate the comment and enjoy your trip!

@Jeremy Kirkpatrick I ate all those courses and had two bottles of wine and the bill was like $200-$250...so, there's no way you would need to order all those courses. If you get any pasta, you must get the Cacio e Pepe, it is simply outstanding. I think everything is reasonably priced, I think you could get out of there for under $100...pasta, wine, and appetizer. If you want to try somewhere in the tourist area, I like Caffè Teichner...it's nestled in a little piazza, sit outside under the umbrellas, it's very cool, the pizza and pastas are great. My favorite pasta there is the Bucatini all'amatriciana.

That would be nice LOL...I've found that traveling can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be...I'm headed back on July 29 for 30 days in Sicily, Greece, Puglia and Malta...I got the air, hotels and ferries for $6,000 USD...for the month, I don't think that's bad....and then of course, there will be money spent on food and experiences. I'm planning on incorporating prices in the videos to give people an idea of how much everything costs. Great question Estelle! 😀

Lee Hadley bring your debit card and use the atms! That way you only take out the money you need. Make sure you call your bank and credit card companies ahead of time to let them know you’re traveling. Using cash for taxis and odds and ends I’d say 500 per city. Would be more than enough.

It's funny the way you pronounce "guanciale" (goo-ahn tchee-ah-leh). making it sound like a personal name ("Giancarlo"). What you people from abroad doing these videos in Italy seem not to have gotten hip to, it's that the italian REGIONAL cuisine is very simple (the roman being the more simple) compared to the ones from other countries (well, meaning by other countries France, ahah) and that the specialties you eat at the restaurants are what locals themselves cook at home.
