- Changing a D1 camlock chuck
In this video, we swap over a 3 Jaw to a 4 jaw.

The main points are;
-Don’t drop your chuck on the bed
-Make sure you can lift safely on or off (some chucks are very heavy)
-Everything is clean
-When secured that the marks are within the arrow section
-Refer to the manual & if you are unsure, don’t do it.
My Warco GH1322 uses a D1-4 camlock, there are a number of different D1 types but they are all quite easily identified.
The easiest way is pin diameter (Ø) and number of pins, I am not going to go into depth here so this is KISS checking;
D1-3 Ø 9/16 (0.5625) ((14.2875)) 3 pins
D1-4 Ø 5/8 (0.6250) ((15.8750)) 3 pin
D1-5 Ø 3/4 (0.7500) ((19.0500)) 6 pin
D1-6 Ø 7/8 (0.8750) ((22.2250)) 6 pin
D1-8 Ø 1” (1.0000) ((25.4000)) 6 pin
There are more but these are the most common types.
You might find in some applications the 6 pin models are only using 3 pins in lightweight applications.
I hope this helps you out.
Regards Andy

I have never removed my 3 jaw on my Harbor freight 12" lather. With your help I got it done. So now I can figure if I have a D1-?. Thanks much.
Good to know it came in useful, have fun
FWIW, I chuck up a piece of round stock in the chuck to provide a easy handle for removing and reinstalling any of my chucks
very interesting Andy, i've been looking for a lathe for myself recently, and i'm pretty sure i want one with a spindle nose such as yours. i've gone round the houses and back again on the actual machine of course! (i'm def going "very used!") i'm consuming a lot of 'lathe basics' videos at the moment. great vid cheers
The D1 system seems to be the favored fixing nowadays, so I would be looking for a D-4 type machine, that will give you scope to get one big enough but not overwhelming
Sadly, my lathe just has a crappy threaded spindle nose - nowhere near as good as camlock - Sigh! …. Martin
I have seen some of the things turned on your lathe Martin & you get nice results
Saudações do brasil.Qual o diametro do seu camlock 92mm ou 117mm.
"Greetings from Brazil. What is the diameter of your 92mm or 117mm camlock."
Hi Wladimir
The Warco GH 1322 runs a D1-4 so is 117mm
Hope this helps.
BTW, I suspect there are other brands running the same machine
