It says she signed right after "Call me Batman" in 2013 for 3.5 years, which means she must have reach out to Tom not too long after being dropped, about a half a year at most.

She also talked a lot about growing up in Jamaica, and after that her time living in group homes. She had a rough time. It made me understand her, and her music a lot. Much respect for her.

When she did 'Made in Gold' that was under the label when it to that first movie 'the Duff' at that time she was with the label. This track could have still been under the label, but I am not sure, I think that this was free from the label, but I am not sure.
This song was done under Mercury Records in 2013 which merged with Island Records and Def Jam 2015. Which became Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG). Too make note UMG - Universal Music Group bought Def Jam, Island Records & Mercury Records in 2000's. They are the ones that screwed Nova over cause they are the owners of 14+ labels at that time and they all had to followed UMG's rules/guidelines/orders. Yes IDJMG did screw Nova, but under UMG's order to stop promoting her since she didn't want to do what they wanted her to be. I guess you can say both fk'd Nova over.
