@@Nova_Ra Book Spoiler, it was Lakan. Lakan is one of, if not, the highest ranked military personnel in the country. He is essentially that guard's boss's boss's boss's boss. That's why he had the look of terror in his eyes when Lakan stepped forward looking angry. (yes, this makes Maomao a noble through her father and eligible to mary Jinshi). Also, Jinshi is not a ruler, he's the emperor's brother (we assume). While he currently has authority, he will lose some of it once the emperor's heir is born and his right of succession (ascension?) is gone.

People should stop hate the guard lol. 1. He is just doing his job. 2. There is no way he should believe a random servant girl trying to stop special ceremony. 3. There is no way he should know maomao has special relationship with jinshi, 4. He is a guard. A job for strong but not so smart people. You expect too much out of him just because us watcher know everything. 5. She was intentionally trying to make him mad and hit her as she said herself. So whose fault that he mad again? Lol 6. This episode just try to make it epic by making her injury looks really bad. Like, jinshi make maomao bleed all the way tru passage and slowly walking lol. No first aid? Everyone just look but no help? All doesnt make sense for the sake of “epic scene”. So yes they make her face really swollen
hahaha well everyone get heated watching this. poor you guard. as someone who only watched the anime (for now), i assume jinshi walked while carrying injured maomao... not only for dramatic purpose, but also reasonable for the situation. i mean, we are talking about who "truly" jinshi status is and the condition when this event happened. if someone as high as his status looked panic, it is same as telling all what is his weakness is. That's fatal. he is walking rather fast tho. the background song makes it look slow. then again, only my theory. someone said in the manga, he was running. but i don't know because i haven't read it yet. 🙃

聖なる場所だから控えの武官も無闇に動けなくなってる(騒ぎが起こってても近づけない)みたいな文化的背景があるにしても…それを暗黙に理解してる日本人でも、おい！じんし、急げや！！って突っ込んでしまうシーンだよー！みんな戸惑っちゃうよね。小説版とかならもう少し違うんだろうけど、アニメ版は端的に印象付けて作ってるから仕方ないけど。
