Ahlena, this is why I love your channel. You just crack me up. LOL!
Yes, I am an older fan and grew up in the 70's listening to Rush, KISS, Aerosmith, Heart, Foreigner and AC/DC, but also always progressed with music, to the 80's with Scorpions, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and then moved onto The Cure, DePeche Mode, R.E.M. & The Preteneders, then to the 90's with Pearl Jam Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Garbage, Green Day, Stabbing Westward, NIN and even Enya and Sarah MacGlauchlan. Now my favorite bands are the Foo Fighters, Starset, The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, Snow Patrol, Rise Against, The Airborne Toxic Event, Plush and of course The Warning.
Too many people can't get out the music they grew up with and cannot accept listening to something new with an open mind. So much music out there to discover.

Hi Ashlena! Back again. I know you aren't a big fan of prog rock, but there is something I would love for you to check out and sorry, but it is prog. Have you ever wondered what would happen if three virtuosos and one genius formed a band? And then went on national tv to perform their most off the wall song? And sped it up instead of chopping it up to fit time constraints? Of course everyone has asked themselves these questions. Well this is it and it's friggin amazing. The band is called Focus and the song is Hocus Pocus. Live on the Midnight Special tv show 1973. I started kindergarten that year! I know I let you down with Arch Enemy, but I promise that this performance (love it or hate it) will do something for you. It's insane and it's hilarious and the musicianship is unmatched. If you do check it out make sure you do the full six minute version: what actually aired on tv is a cut down four minute job and removed some really amazing stuff. So while I can't guarantee that you will like it, I can pretty promise that it will make for a great reaction that your viewers will enjoy. Lots of funny faces. Anyway, keep on rockin'!

Great to see you did a Rush video we watch your Warning reactions, I am 59 and have been a Rush fan all my life, for me they are so awesome, Neil Pert did a fantastic drum solo was so cool and long ,he used all of his kit, you said this is not your taste, but we love you and your taste now, the Trees is so cool, a lot of Neil Pert. It's great to hear your interests, if you don't like some like Rush, of course that's cool we all have different tastes for music. I love Rush and feel privileged that I saw them live once, I wish my wife could have experienced them she would loved it, but we also love stuff you love like the Warning, seen them twice live, saw your reaction to a show, love your channel, we also keep an eye on Freeze the Fall, and a second family band Liliac.

Ashlena, you are a gem. I am a huge fan of Rush - for a few of the their songs. Really, I mean I remember hearing a lot of their music when friends at parties would play them. Some had their full discography and bootleg recordings, whatever. I only owned two vinyl copy of their first “Rush” and Fly by Night”. But just know that I didn’t get hurt that you don’t really like the music. I truly enjoyed the reaction. Your vibe is your vibe. Nothing wrong with that. Happy new year!

Xanadu was a REALLY rough one to start you with (especially is you're not a 70s prog-rock kinda person).
this one should probably been the studio (the bass comes through much better). ain't complainin', just sayin' 🤷‍♂😉
though, (even though i'm not canadian myself; though i did use to live close and have had several canadian friends) i do find it fairly odd that you'd never heard Rush before 😅😘 ... i thought they were royalty up there.
ANYWAY .... i would've started you out with _Spirit of the Radio_ , followed by _Limelight_ , possibly _Closer to the Heart_ . (i would've said _Tom Sawyer_ , but you don't like synth)
that being said -- if prog-rock ain't your jam ( _especially_ of the 70s variety), your enjoyment of them will be limited.
ALSO , kinda sorta semi-related -- (someone may have already mentioned this in the last one) -- Pau has told a story about how her drum teacher brought her his entire Rush collection and made her learn every song ("you don't have to like it, but you ARE going to learn it"). Neil Peart is THAT big of a deal amongst drummers. (and Geddy Lee is almost as big a deal amongst bassists .... almost)
anyway, don't take any sh!t and keep rockin' on🤘

Rush is an amazing band with an amazing career, but even many Rush fans have specific era's that they prefer. I know they have songs that can appeal to just about any person (seriously - I can find at least one for ANYONE), but not all of their songs are for everyone (Xanadu is a tough introduction to them). Give some examples of what your vibe is and I/We can give more targeted suggestions. Never say never. You cannot imagine what some of their later works sound like based on their early works. Enjoy the reactions!

Rush fan here. I love The Warning, Soundgarden, Nightwish, Nirvana, Testament, and early Metallica. I also love The Glenn Miller Orchestra, B.B. King, Leadbelly, Savarage/TSO, and idk 1000 others that my migraine brain can't come up with right now.
As for you not liking Rush, that's COMPLETELY valid, and I don't think it is necessarily related to the era you grew up in. I know people older than me (I'm 57) who HATE Rush with a burning passion. 😂 Music speaks to our hearts, our minds, and our spirits and none of us are wired the same. You listened, you watched, you appreciated the talent, but it didn't "move" you. One of my best friends from childhood has never understood my love of Rush, and we share MANY similar bands that we love. Rush just isn't one of them, so he never went to their shows with me. I still love him like a brother though.
Keep on doing your thing, and let the haters cry. 😅❤❤❤

Their first hit song. On the original studio version their original drummer, John Rutsey, played. Neil joined before their second album. As I recall, the song started getting airplay in Cleveland and that started things rolling for them in a big way. If you want to see him using his drumkit to its fullest, there is a video of Neil doing a drum solo on the Letterman show in the US in 2011. ua-cam.com/video/qw6aWbXL5Mc/v-deo.html.

I totally get respecting them as musicians and artists and enjoying a live performance but not wanting to replay it. I was a teenage dork for whom they scratched the ancient wizard vibe other people got from Star Wars or Lotd of the Rings
And they came at the end of the Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones etc monster bands that were manically popular AND sexy. RUSH was not sexy. They were brainy. But they also did some of the hardest rock …. And dorkiest rock
    They’re genius goofballs

I totally get you Ashlena. I'm 51 and it took me 50 years to finally 'get' Rush. And I'm from their hometown! But the thing is, that's totally understandable. Rush are a specific metal edged vibe in the progressive rock world. If you need to move on, don't give up on the genre. Go to the pinnacle and listen to 'Yes'. Their song 'And You And I' (album version) or 'Roundabout' or 'Yours Is no Disgrace' may give you some hope for the genre and introduce you to a softer (at most times) edged band that blends classical elements seamlessly without the listener even knowing it. They're widely considered the world's best in sentences along with Pink Floyd etc. And describing their vibe would be incredibly hard to nail down. Which is why I'm intrigued to see which way of the fence you land on. Your honesty is awesome. 🙂

Nice to see another Rush reaction! I watched your first video and had no problem at all with your first reaction. People can be very protective about their favorite bands and music, and Rush fans for whatever reason are especially intense. That said, I think this live version of 'Working Man' is a much better introduction to them. It was the song that broke them in the U.S. in 1974. If you do another Rush reaction, there are so many great live performances to choose from. A great, heavy instrumental from them (that is a real vibe) is 'The Main Monkey Business'. The live version from the R40 tour is awesome. Also, since you like Geddy's voice, there is a wonderful live (acoustic!) performance of 'Resist' from the R30 tour in Germany. It shows yet another side of the band. Here is the link for that if you ever want to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/9SewAjLJB-Q/v-deo.html

I am a huge Rush fan but I get it they are not for everyone. The fact that you are honest in your reactions about what you like and what you don't is awesome. I get it different people prefer differrent styles of music, life would pretty boring if we all liked exactly the same things. Lots of people don't care for progressive rock and Geddy's voice is not for everyone. Like you said they may not be a band that you really want to listen to on a regular basis but as a musican I think you will really appreciate a lot of their music and you will be able to see the huge influence they they had on many bands that have come along since. I do hope that you get to check out some more Rush. They had a forty year long music career with nineteen studio albums so there is a lot to choose from and unlike many bands their music is very different from song to song and from one album to another. Also unlike most rock bands they have several insturmental songs. I have only seen your two Rush reactions so far but I definately plan to check out some of your other reactions as well. I will list some suggestions below.
    1) La Villa Strangiato (Offical Video): ua-cam.com/video/eK1hmDpa8bo/v-deo.html - This video was recorded live in one take. This song is very difficult and intricate. They spent several days tring to record this song live when they recorded it for the album but they ended up having to record it in three sections. Because it was so difficult their manager or producer (I am not sure which) originally wanted them to use the sound from the studio recording for the video with spliced together shots of them playing. However Rush always wanted to be able to play everything live. This video is the recording of their first attempt at making the video and their first time playing the song all the way through sucsessfully.
    2) YYZ - Live in Rio: ua-cam.com/video/sBCVsVKU4O4/v-deo.html - As you said Brazillian audiences are amazing, they sing along to this insturmental.
    3) Also I am not sure how interested you are in the drums but if you enjoy amazing druming you really should check out a drum solo from Rush's drummer Neil Peart. All of his solos are amazing and they were a regular feature of their concerts. He has a very unique style and he really uses that whole amazing kit that he has. One of my favorites is his drum solo Live from Frankfurt Germany: ua-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/v-deo.html

Great reaction. It’s nice that someone finally reacted to the better version of working man live. 99% of Rush fans will run to the Cleveland Ohio version thinking that it’s better. The Cleveland version is very exciting but it’s a hot mess with Alex playing random notes. Getty as well. This Rio version was played cleanly.
As for the rush fans, getting upset with you for being honest. Yes these rush fans honestly believe that every rush song is a masterpiece. So yes, it’s refreshing to hear someone be honest about their music.

Not everyone likes RUSH, for various reasons. Some suggestions, if your patrons agree, would be these -
'Closer to the Heart' - great commentary on society that is still very relevant today
'Limelight' - Written by Neil Peart (as most of RUSH's songs were) to address his discomfort with fame
'Tom Sawyer' - arguably one of their biggest hits, but does have some synth.
If you want to see Neil slay his entire drum kit, I'd suggest the Live in Frankfurt drum solo.
Glad you gave them another shot, they are iconic in rock for a reason even if they aren't everyone's cup of tea.
(Edit: Other than the drum solo, I would suggest doing the official studio versions/official music video versions of the three I listed)

You've kinda taken an unorthodox route to this band. Tom Sawyer is usually the first rush song to react to because it's their most popular song. Then usually Spirit of Radio, Limelight and Freewill. Then you can do the more artistic songs like Xanadu. The catalog is extremely deep and my suggestion is to always have lyrics, because not only is Neil Peart one of the greatest drummers ever, he is also one of the greatest song writers ever.

Rush is not a band that too many women love, I'll admit... Rush has a diverse sound and u should have started w/ something easier to digest... like studio versions of songs like - 'Tom Sawyer'... 'Subdivisions' ... 'Freewill' ... 'Mystic rhythms'...
Then, IF u like those tracks... u can get into the complex stuff... If not, we'll suggest something more ur vibe.
I appreciate your honesty... I don't need a patronizing reactor trying to get views and please everyone. I need an honest reaction... and live versions are only for hardcore fans.
If u love Audioslave... may I suggest checking out bands like - Incubus (songs: 'Pardon me'... 'Nice to know you')
Queens of the Stone Age (songs: 'Go with the flow' ... 'If only')
Life of Agony (songs: 'Weeds' ... 'Love to let you down')

As a RUSH fan, currently it has been mostly Sabaton, and Amaranthe.
Other than that: Alice Cooper, Frank Zappa, Kate Bush, Forever Still, 2 Unlimited, David Bowie, Blue Öyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Siouxie & The Banshees,
and throw in most 70's and 80's music (mostly pop, rock, and punk).
Not sure, but you might actually like Amaranthe, they have 3 vocalists, a clean male, a harsh male, and Elize
Try Digital World, Helix, Amaranthine, and/or Boom!1 to start with... it's metal, it's catchy, and most importantly it's fun.

I've loved Rush since I was a kid, but it's been a long running joke that Rush fans are predominantly nerdy guys. If you want to make a Rush fan laugh, tell them that something is "as empty as the womens' room at a Rush concert". If they have a sense of humor at all, they'll be rolling. Having said that, if you dive in a little deeper, you might fall in love with them. Or you might not. And that's okay.
