IMHO, the most talented, classically trained television/film composer of the new generation. I hope he breaks into major film composing, in a serious way. He has the talent and eclectic background to carry the torch for Maestro Jerry Goldsmith. I wish he would stick more with the traditional, romantic/classical compositions, versus the avante-garde new-agey stuff...because that is where he really shines, IMHO. As examples: Passacaglia, Shape of Things to Come, Violence and Variations, etc.
BSG, Caprica, Walking Dead and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles are some of my favorite TV soundtracks/scores. He's my 2nd favorite composer behind John Williams. Like those shows I mentioned would NOT bet the same without Bear's music, the same way John Williams did for Star Wars and all of Spielburg's movies. :)
Interesting thoughts about how the music 'appealed' to him over other film elements--It was 'Jaws' that made me realize the importance of the musical score: I didn't even know any film composers until I heard John Williams; the importance of that 'dun dun dun dun dun dun' musical cue can't be overstated.

Bear Mcreary = God
I'd love to hear the original musicians of BsG get together again and tour.
A clear spirit indeed.. genius on BSG immortal.
Absolutely adored the new BSG...Season 2 had the best soundtrack imo, "Something Dark is coming" is hands down one of the best pieces of music ever
