The part about scammers in Boca Chica, the chivery shown for pregnant women and the driving with the amount of motor cochos are definitely things I can vouch for. The driving makes me nervous as well. But I do love that culturally the DR people no matter where you are feel like they are a family. However, they may look at you as an outsider.

cheating and second families are really a sport or job in africa and the caribbean. mainly caribbean. at least in SOME african cultures it's allowed! this is why i stay away from caribbean men.

I'm in my late forties and my co-worker is Dominican and 57 years old. He brags at work among the guys about having a girlfriend in the Dominican Republic who is 25 years old and said it is normal for older men to date younger women in his country. Is this something you have witnessed and how common is this? I want to point out this guy is married and fools around with this young woman when he goes to the Dominican Republic on vacation. I suspect his wife knows he is fooling around with the young woman when he's in the Dominican Republic and allows it because he pays all the bills and takes care of her financial needs. Are older Dominican women typically like this?
They definitely got me in boca chica with overpaying for fish!
Pros. The food is really great and cheap for the most part. People are nice. The weather is hot throughout most of the year.
Cons. Traffic in Santo Domingo can be high. Some People will see your not from there and will either try to scam you or help you then ask for money. You need to know some spanish if you want to venture away from tourist areas.
You guys should go! I go at least 4x a year!
